  1. That's what I ended up doing. I marked it then tigged it together. 1/16" tube wall thickness, hopefully that will be strong enough. I angle cut the ends so I could get more area to weld.
  2. doesn't work for me, I get the same stupid placeholder image.
  3. Really need to do this fix: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/122888-tech-tip-ea81-4-speed-sloppy-shifter-bushing-fix/ Damn Photobucket pics are missing. I hate Photobucket!
  4. I've had the same trouble. Ended up buying a whole parts Brat for the seats.... and a few other bits.
  5. I'm hoping this one will allow me to mount the jump seats. It looks like some I've seen in dealer brochures. I've also got a brush bar that looks similar to the dealer brochures, it does not go around the headlights, just the center.
  6. Yes it's a Brat. I've got 14" wheels with 195/70 tires, should have specified that originally. I tried one today and it won't even squeeze even part of the way in. Does the full size 13" actually fit under the hood. I haven't tried one of those. I do have the original doughnut. Guess I could drill the wheel on the doughnut and use it.
  7. I'm running 14" wheels with six lugs. They won't fit in the spare tire location under the hood. Are there any 6 lug wheels with tire that will fit that spot?
  8. Just doing a small 2" lift but will need to extend the steering shaft. I've looked around though my scrap pile but really haven't come across anything that would work well. This is on an 82 Brat. The shaft is bigger around at the top, just shy of 5/8*. The lower is smaller, but doubt if there is enough clearance due to the axle. I'm thinking a tube to slip over each end and weld.
  9. that's some white knuckle stuff right there, surprised they even know what the General Lee is in South Dakota, but on second thought that maybe only in North Dakota.
  10. If I were to need to pass emissions, which I'm not required to do, I'm thinking no converter is going to let my Weber conversion pass. It's likely this car will be driven less than 1000 miles annually. I do think your prescription for a high flow system is spot on.
  11. I guess I'm that guy that doesn't see the need for a catalytic converter.
  12. Need to get the exhaust reworked. Gonna have them cut out the catalytic converter and run a 2 inch pipe. I'm hoping they can reuse the original Y pipe. What kind of muffler would be good. Don't necessarily want anything really loud, but a little would be ok. I'm guessing the stock mufflers were pretty quiet.
  13. wow, looks more like squirrels, they are rats too
  14. I've been watching these front struts for my 82 Brat. Usually they are around $57 to $60 each even at Rockauto.com. They have them marked down to $46 incl shipping if you're on Prime. Would have preferred some KYB, but I've not been able to locate any of those.
  15. It's the Caswell Plating epoxy. I used it on another tank and really works well. You can order it direct or I think they sell it on Amazon.
  16. I've seen a few listed for sale on Facebook and maybe here. I've heard the station wagon tanks are the same. I had the same issue and in these parts old Subaru parts are hard to come by. I did this instead: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/161908-anybody-ever-cut-open-their-fuel-tank/
  17. The return line inside my tank had pin holes in it at the top of the 180 degree bend. It would not have substituted for a supply line. Your tank is probably in better shape than mine was.
  18. I ended up having to use a drill bit to dig out part of the crap in there so there was no way air pressure would have done it. The return line is a lot smaller than the supply, but it may provide plenty of flow.
  19. I think it was just a build up of sediment over time. There was a lot of crap in the tank. The baffles had pretty much rusted away and all of that was on the bottom. The bottom of my tank was actually coated with a tar like substance. I think it was some sort of sealer from the factory. It was compromised so I had to remove it. I did a write up on my repair. The car had been sitting for an extended period of time, probably 20 years. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/161908-anybody-ever-cut-open-their-fuel-tank/?hl=%2Bopen+%2Btank
  20. I could not get my fuel line to unstop even after cutting the tank open. There is one 90 degree bend and one 180 degree bend and the line was completely solid at the end where the sock was. The actual sock was fine, just the line was plugged. Ended up cutting the line and removing it, unplugging it then silver soldering it back in place. Don't think you could hurt anything with compressed air, maybe you will have success. You can see the pickup w/ sock if you remove the sender unit.
  21. According to the guy I got the wheels from they came off his Dodge pickup that he bought new. They were dealer added wheels.
  22. Actually, yes. I think I updated the fuel tank rebuild on another thread, but I've also pulled off the old manifold and Carter carb and replaced with a Weber. Cleaned the interior so that you don't feel too bad about sitting in it any more. Drilled my hubs and drums to accept 6 lug wheels. Replaced an axle, all new brakes and master cyl. New windshield wiper blades! Dang, now I find that the wipers don't work. Adjusted the valves, they were pretty wide. Changed all the fluids and every hose. New waterpump and oil pump. Replaced the distributor, new cap, wires, plugs etc. Bought a parts Brat to scavenge some misc. parts from--- including jump seats!!. The main reason I bought it. Got new tires, 195/70-14 and some Dodge D50 alloys. Unfortunately the slight bit of offset difference is causing fender interference in the front so the next step is to install a small front lift. I have a 2" kit just haven't had a chance to get started. The engine purrs like a kitten. I have not gotten to drive it other than back and forth out the garage due to the tire rubbing issue, can't really make much of a turn. Got the carb and timing adjusted, the electric fan works good. Just can't wait to actually take it around the block. The only home run on the rusty parts Brat I bought would have been if it had been an A/C car, unfortunately it wasn't.
  23. Oh lordy is this a rusty piece of junk. Can't believe I actually spent money on it. Saved the jump seats just in time!
