  1. All around I have fairly new 205/75/15 general grabbers, the wear looks even. Motor mounts I have not checked just tranny mounts. And I know they're not ideal I would rather have oems, but, out of the bunch of axles I've had on that side if they were hit or miss I should have had some fluctuation in life. The last one I even took their grease out and put my own grease in and moved the boot 3 notches inward. Also the last 2 or 3 axles have torn in the same spot, the very outter of the inner boot length wise parallel with the axle shaft. I'll get pictures when I get home. That tells me it isn't hitting anything to do it. Im gonna try and get those oem boots from the dealer today and see about the next axle, I have one sitting in the car.
  2. The car only has the adf 2 inch lift with stock struts and springs, occasionally I'll get on it to get around someone but I try to drive pretty gentle with this car. The only thing that I csn think of that would still cause this is the opposite side trans mount is flexing and putting stress on this axle. I didn't have this issue this fast until somewhat recently but I couldn't say how recent. The axle on the driver side is 4 months old still hasn't torn the boot and it's got probably a couple thousand miles on it no problem (car is ready for an oil change). That car has been a few hundred miles alone to Nevada and back! If it was both sides i would have already gotten the drop.
  3. This post is a roller coaster from start to finish, only bit I'm gonna add it is that in my experience the ej is much better (I didn't REALLY start having problems with my ea until I lifted and tortured my car though). The ea seems to want to break and never does, I've snapped one belt, and blown one head gasket. Since the reseal with the permatorque headgasket kit I've had the car reach 250 degrees and just driven on because who cares if it blows. Still hasn't yet, doesn't even sip coolant or fail block or pressure tests. I have seen ej belts snap without warning a few times (at least that's what we're told when the car gets towed in), but the ej is and forever will be a massive upgrade from an ea82. So really you're both not wrong.
  4. I'll try that, my buddy works at the dealer so I'll see what he can do this week. I'll try it and update you all on how it goes
  5. I'm gonna have to cave in and go the distance and buy a couple sets of axles and pull some boots too. I do plan on lowering the crossmember in just working on the ej swap and other stuff first, including a solid rear axle to eliminate axle issues all together in the back at the least.

  7. Yes the boots do last a little longer but once the boot goes they seem to fail much more violent and much more abrupt, mine the boot failed and on the sb8003 axled I can drive fine for like a week or 2 constantly before it's even an issue but the HD axle lasted maybe 100 miles and then one day it wobbled for 10 seconds and exploded. They're also 5x as hard to install since they have the fatter section it hits the control arm.
  8. I knew the issue was bad but I also believe i was told you don't generally lower the xmember with a 2 inch lift
  9. And which option does that leave me with, I heard napa is crap, I don't use auto zone, I get orielly axles because I have a hookup there. The closest ea82 in junkyards are about 100 miles out and that kinda leaves rebuilding oems out. I check for grease before I put them on, and it's only the passenger side that keeps blowing. I've anak tried the janky "heavy duty" axles that if you look at on amazon are "120%" new which doesn't make sense but it lasted longer but then just kind grenaded the boot and the entire joint one day on the freeway
  10. Didn't mean to post yet, wanted to ask is there anything else that could be causing this? Something I'm missing? I try to be pretty gentle on the gas, and my freeway speeds are 55 on the speedo MAX 65 going down hill
  11. So I've posted on this the last time I was getting fed up with axles. Long story short I'm shredding boots in less than 12 hours of driving. I put at axle in Wednesday night, drove to work Thursday, got lunch, back to work, then home, then went about 50 miles to a subaru meet and tore the boot before I was halfway there. Dealt with it smoking snd what not and just went to the meet and did some light wheeling. Friday I put a new axle in drove the car to fill up and warranty my other axle. Drove about the same distance again but the opposite direction to a bigger meet and tore the boot before I was halfway again. This axle I had put new grease in the join and moved the boot inward towards the join to keep it from tearing and it didn't help. I'm getting really tired of my car constantly smoking because of axle grease and replacing axles every single time I want to go anywhere with the car. I've done the passenger side tranny mount which is the side that keeps tearing, the other side has even torn in months. I have the other mount I'm going to do next today when I throw yet another axle in the car (3rd in like 3 days). If it tears again I'm just going to have to stop driving it until I can lower the crossmember because this is ridiculous.
  12. I'll try flushing it with a hose but I did the radiator a while back, can we get upgraded rads for the ea82?
  13. Updated pictures of my rig since it's been a while. My heads for my ej are at the machine shop and my harness is with adf, getting ready to order rings and bearings and my adapter plate.
  14. Hey guys, so I resealed my motor a while back and the car ran great. Since the weather started getting warm though the car runs stupid hot. On the freeway in the day the car will climb to 20 sit for a minute then climb to 220 sit for a minute then go up to 230/240 and settle. Then it'll drop down when I start slowing down away from freeway speeds. And already my freeway speeds are only 55 on the speedo on 27 inch tires. I have the stock electric fan, and a nice high cfm fan off my dad's race car when he changed to duals, new waterpump, new radiator, I took the thermostat out yesterday, 50/50 mix and a bottle of hyper cool, it doesn't drink coolant like the hg is blown it runs good just gets really hot. If the air is cool the car stays below 200 even on the freeway. I'm in the process of ej25 swapping so I won't have the motor for too much longer but I wanna be able to go to stuff and not worry about breaking. Any ideas?
  15. With 4-6 inches run the 29s, I have 27s on a 2 inch lift and with a little cutting wheel massaging I was running my 27s before I even put my lift on with not much rubbing.
  16. Is it necessary to ground these? It has the spot for a ground wire but I have never grounded an alternator on any of my cars before. Figured they grounded through the mount
  17. My wires were switched, charged and worked fine but had a 3 amp draw when the car was off, swapped them everything works great no more draw.
  18. I ended up making an adapter, do I have to run a ground to that alternator? I did the swap yesterday, car did good overnight into today drove great, but I went to leave work and my battery was dead had to bump start the car. Gauge read it was charging 14 volts, got home just went out to my car battery flat dead again had to coast down the driveway and bump start it again. Tomorrow I'm gonna test my battery but I didn't have this issue until the swap and I didn't run a ground to the alternator yet so wondering if that's it.
  19. Hey GD, how did you get the connectors out of the stock pug? Mine don't seem to budge
  20. Got these buckets today for the low beams, off an 82 3 series beamer hopefully have them mounted this weekend
  21. To fit the sylvanias the easiest bucket to find seems to be an e30 bmw. Going to the junkyard today
  22. Just for you my friend I went to oriellys on the way home found a set of 6 inch halogen in the back and got them, now I have to find cups in the junkyard or make my own and then run the Hella's as high beams and the Sylvanias as my lows
  23. Actually to remedy the whole thing I wonder if a Sylvania round is the same size, if it is I'll run those as low beams and the Hella's as high beams, that would be the best of both worlds. Legal low beams and I wouldn't be using highs around anyone else anyways. Good idea right? Anal saves me a bit of money
  24. I saw where he talked about hoping it wouldn't be a problem but where he didn't think the 55w would be a big issue and never saw anything after that so I assume he had no issues. Again he probably didn't drive the car around town at night a whole lot either.
