  1. I recently purchased a Spectra rad for my 1988 GL hatch and its great. It was all metal and fit in the car nicely. It was listed as a dual row. The only gripe I have is that the factory rad cap doesn't fit. The one you will need to buy to fit it is actually quite large. I found it at Napa for about $5.
  2. Well, I picked up the release bearing holder, part# 431527100, and it is indeed correct! Thank you naru for your help. I hope that anyone having a similar problem can find this and keep their Subaru moving as well.
  3. I'm sure most everything is out there. I've found that it just takes some, or a good bit, of digging to find parts for these older Subarus. I would bet that a brand like National makes these bearings aftermarket. What year/model did you need the release bearing for?
  4. Yeah, I figured it was worth a shot to ask though. I made a thread for my problem and I think I have it resolved. What bearing were you looking for? Or what application, I should say. I've been doing a lot of searching for my parts and came across a lot of different clutch items and I could possibly help. I even have a spare bearing or two that I don't need. If its something you need, you can pay postage and its yours.
  5. That's great info. Thank you. That's what I'm missing, a good factory manual. I made the mistake (before I knew that my car/setup are basically '84, or at least that I should be looking for parts for an '84) of buying a manual for my year of car, which is 1988. The reason I asked about the input shaft is because the EA82 has a larger 1"? for some applications and I didn't know if that made its way into some of the late EA81 cars. At this point I want to cover all my bases. Haha. Thank you again.
  6. Thank you!! And that should fit the input shaft and fork that I have then? Why does that seem like such an elusive part? Is it just me?
  7. I learned early on that was a difficult year range to find parts for. And to make it worse there are the component changes that make it confusing. I'm glad someone else finds the search difficult. And thank you, I've also heard to search for 1984 for my car. Thank you for the reply.
  8. Hello all. I'm fairly new to older Subarus and I am looking for some help. I have a 1988 GL hatchback with an EA81 and carb, and 4 speed dual-range transmission. I'm in the process of replacing the clutch. The engine was out when I purchased the car to do that and reseal the motor. My problem is this: I'm not sure that I have the correct clutch kit or throwout bearing for the car. To make matters worse, the previous owner threw away all the clutch components, so I have nothing to compare my new parts against. The throwout bearing that came with the kit does not fit the genuine Subaru bearing holder that I purchased, its a bit larger. The bearing I do have that fits my holder just barely touches the fingers of the pressure plate, meaning that the outside diameter of the bearing is just a little larger than the "diameter" that the ends of the pressure plate fingers create. I have read on the forums that a member said this was okay? It appears that the smaller bearing that I have is like the ones that came on pre-84 GL/DL/Brats or later 2wd cars. As for the larger bearing that came in the kit, I have not been able to find a holder for it anywhere. Research has turned up so many different parts and conflicting information that I'm just very confused at this point. Can someone point me to the correct parts? Or even tell me if my current setup will work and is safe? What I know about my car that may be able to help: -my flywheel is 23mm deep -input shaft is 7/8 dia. 21 spline -flywheel is large enough to accomodate the 225mm clutch disc I have, and the wear marks appear that the same size was used before. -shift fork is black -clutch kit is a Luk 15-003 -release bearing holder fits the input shaft and fork snugly; its Subaru part #:431527000 -pressure plate and clutch disc assemble and bolt up just fine. I've tried to list everything as orderly and detailed as possible. I can provide any more info that I may have forgotten. I've also searched the forums for my problem. Some people have had similar problems, but nothing exactly replicates my situation. I would GREATLY appreciate any help. Thank you very much and have a great day!
  9. I have been searching for an answer to my clutch issue, and I have finally run across someone mentioning a little of what I'm going through. Mcbrat, you said the smaller release bearing will work on the larger '84 clutch pressure plate? I have that kit with the larger bearing, but I have not been able to find the holder for it, and the previous owner of my car threw away any old clutch parts, so I am quite lost. I did manage to source a bearing holder to fit my input shaft and fork, but it holds the smaller bearing. Any help would be greatly appreciated! And I'm sorry to hijack this thread. I have just been having so much trouble here.
