  1. Put the FWD Fuse in the holder to put it in FWD mode. Does the problem go away? I thought you had a 5 sp until you asked about the parking pawl.
  2. I've done many 96-99 Outback 2.5 to 2.2 swaps with the 95 2.2 engine. I think this is a great combination. The reliability of the 95 2.2 with the features of the Newer Outbacks. The 2.2 is great to work on, IMHO.
  3. The wheel bearings can cause the howl. It's pretty common. If the backs are going, it seems to be more noticable at highway speeds. If the front's are going the noise will change some when you corner. I take it the trans and front diff gear ratios are the same!
  4. Go to Ebay and look for Grip Force, I've used 6 or more of there Exedy kits and I've been happy. Make sure you surface the flywheel and re-seal the air/oil seperator plate on the back of the block.
  5. To get most of the fluid most recommend a drain and fill 3 times with short drives in between. I like to pull the trans hose going to the radiator. Drain and fill the trans, the with the hose going into a gallon jug, start the car. The trans will pump out the old fluid. Do about 2 qts at a time. Keep on filling the trans, start it back up and let it pump out some more. When the nasty dark fluid turn bright red, you are done getting the old fluid out of the trans. Hook the hose back up and service to the proper level. There is NO need to drop the trans pan to get at the screen filter in there, it's just a screen.
  6. Hit the local you pull and pay yards. Look up under the dash on the driver side, if you see a black plastic box 1"x4"x5" approximately with 2 or 3 plugs coming off it that's the keyless entry. The advantage of going to a yard is you can see how it is installed and what it's wired to. When you pull the wires, take the complete harnes and the car side of the wiring as well at least enough that you can match it to your cars wiring. I'd stay with the Subaru unit.
  7. go to NASIOC.com and check the partout list. Guys are always getting rid of stock or used parts when they roll their WRX for cheap.
  8. Did you hold the throttle wide open when you did the compression check? Was the battery fully charged and the cranking speed the same? Do you have spark? Do you have fuel? Is it trying to fire or nothing at all? Try a cap full or two of gas down the intake, if it starts for a second or two, you have a fuel problem.
  9. The read disk brakes will fit under 15" wheels no problem and may fit 14" as well. The 90-94 Legacy wagons had 14" wheels and disk brakes on the rear. This is one option I like just for ease of maintenance. Keep it close to stock, keep the reliability and drive it for the next 200K miles with normal maintenance. If you want a WRX buy one, then come back to the stock reliabile OBS.

  11. I've got several clutches and one flywheel from Grip Force. I've been happy with them all and the service is great as well as the price. Check their store as well as E-Bay. The last clutch I found a better deal at their store.
  12. Is the fluid temp light flashing 16 times after she starts the car? If so there is a trouble code stored in the TCU. If the FWD fails to come on when the fuse is put in and the light is flashing it's most likely electrical wiring/circuit problems.
  13. Most likely the shifter linkage bushing. They can be a pain to change. The last one, I went to ACE and found bronze bushing that worked with the likage that was there as even thougth I got the roll pins out of the trans imput shaft I could not get the u-joint shift linkage off.
  14. I picked up an 08 unit thinking I might be able to use it on one of my other subarus, but when I saw the built in circuit card on the back I think it's pretty much OEM or nothing. I still have it if you need a good one. Larry
  15. I got it most of the way done today. Along with the things I expected, the following also had to be done. Rear Diffs had different axle configurations so I had to swap the rear axles as well. The rear diff studs going into the cross member had to be swapped. The Drive shaft rear section had to be swapped as the bolt pattern was different old to new diff. 96 into a 92.
  16. PCI kits are good. I've used many of them. You could just have a little piston slap, nothing to worry about.
  17. Thanks, yes the speedo cable shoud screw right in. If I was going to keep it, I'd put in a 5sp. But hey the other guy wants an auto and I just happen to have one. I love Subarus!
  18. I picked up a 92 Legacy auto for a friend. The trans is going out, the fluid looked like oil but did not smell burnt. I thought what the Heck for $60 in fluid I can try a flush. It did not help, I will move forward in 2nd, and if you get the revs up to 5K it goes FWD in Drive and 3rd as well. Reverse is great, but it also goes in Reverse in 1st now. Strange. Not a big deal, as I have a 95 with a bent frame that has a good Auto Trans and rear diff. I think they will be a direct swap over correct? Will I also need the TCU? Thanks, Larry
  19. www.car-part.com I have a 99 engine that I pulled from a forster. It ran but lacked power and had a little knock, valves/pistons hitting. I did not mess with it as I had a good used motor for it. You can have the engine for $100 (core price) and the price of shipping. 80919
