  1. I replaced the rear struts on my 06 Forester with a set of KYB's I had from a 98-04 Forester. The top hats and springs were different but the 00 KBY struts I had bolted right in, springs, and top hats. Brake line support brackets had to be modified a bit for the lines to go in but they worked great. I kept the 06 Springs and top hats if I ever need them.
  2. I'd start by draining the diff and checking the gear lube for metal. Easier to change the complete trans, as the gears have to be properly shimmed to set the clearance.
  3. Be happy to drive one back for the cost of the trip. I'm in SBN and ORD for work from time to time.
  4. Replaced the cluster today with a Junk yard one. Still no clock. I did search the USMB, didn't find an Impreza thread, I've fixed lots of the Forester clocks in the overhead panel with the bad solder joints
  5. http://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/5936799310.html http://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/5921644688.html http://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/5932741616.html 3 nice options!
  6. Pick up a nice rust free one from CO or AZ. Worth the trip. I'd be happy to watch the CO Craigslist for you. Good ones go FAST!
  7. I have a nice rust free pan if you want it. $20 + shipping from CO. A good steam clean is where I'd start and then find the source of the leak, If the TC was pulled out of the trans and then reseated the main seal may be damaged. As others have said, the trans coolant lines may have been damaged when the engine was changed. The trans funnels with a plastic hose on them work great!
  8. Model? Mileage? Any recent maintenance? When it's warm, is the top and bottom radiator hose warm/hot? You really can see coolant flow in a Subaru. Make sure the radiator is full when the engine is cold. Sometimes the coolant is not pulled back into the radiator from the overflow bottle.
  9. The clock on the upper left of the instrument cluster is out. Anyone ever fix these? Thanks, Larry
  10. www.car-part.com There are a set of 17 aluminum on the Colorado Springs, CO craigslist for $300.
  11. Yep, works great. I've done this numerous times. I end up using about 3 gallons of fluid.
  12. Or get Forester Struts and give yourself a lift, about 2". I've done several and love them.
  13. The clutch is spring loaded. The pressure plate tension is released by the clutch. It's unlikely that the hyd system would cause the slipping. Make sure you check the rear diff and make sure the axles are fully inserted. I've had a couple of them where one axle had popped out about a 1/2" and all the power to the rear was not going to the wheels. Felt just like a slipping clutch. Two other Mechanics told the previous owner the car needed a clutch. Putting the axle back in fixed the problem.
  14. The hitches bolt into the frame, with the same bolts that hold the bumper on. It would be pretty easy to weld up a mount for the winch.
  15. Lots of deals on 97-99 Outbacks with the 2.5 DOHC engine in them. < $500. Drop a good used 2.2 in with new T-Belt, Seals... and for under a $1000. You will have a very nice car that will last for years.
  16. Yes, if you need a couple of spare cam and Crank Sensors, I can send them to you. Friday, I'll be flying through ORD. Larry
  17. It's all internal to the cluster. The drive in the trans is just an electrical signal to the dash. I'd grab a used dash from a yard and put it in.
  18. With the timing belt off you can rotate the cams so the valves are closed and then put the crank front belt pulley on and turn it with the bolt. The passenger side cam is free when the alignment mark is up, so those valves are closed The Drivers side cam is under spring pressure from the valves being open. You can rotate it about a 1/4 turn clockwise with a 17mm wrench on the cam sprocket bolt to close the valves. Once the crank is set, just rotate it back to the alignment mark.
  19. Get a good used 97-99 Outback with a good old 2.2 motor installed. It will run forever and it's easy to work on. These came with the 2.5 DOHC but you can plug and play a 2.2 in easy. Nice, cheap insurance, nice car and it will get you where you want to go for under $4000
  20. www.car-part.com Find a door near you and swap out the complete door. Easy! Cheap if you find one at a self serve yard.
