  1. This worked on my 98 Outback now in IN, instead of rust free CO. "try pushing the latch lever handle (the part your fingers pull on) try pushing it the other direction and then unlocking the door with the electric locks or the key. then squeeze and pull to open as usual."
  2. Junk yard will be fine. I've had lots of them fail, but never had one catch on fire. PS when your working on electrical stuff, its always a good idea to disconnect the negative lead from the battery.
  3. Easy way is to pull the complete bumper and then pull the cover. A junk yard trial run is usually a good use of time: - Remove the mud flaps - Remove the 10 mm nuts holding the front side of the bumper to the body (2 of them I think) - Unplug the plate light connectors under the spare tire cover - Remove the 2 19mm bolts on each side, accessed through the cargo area on each side of the flip up spare tire cover and under the plastic covers on the body. - Slide the bumper back and off
  4. I'd remove the alarm. I've seen more problems with them then the solve. Look at the wiring, they usually only splice into a couple. I you can remove it and restore the factory wiring I bet it solves your problem.
  5. Sounds like a bad battery or cable corrosion. The Alarm started working, cause the battery went dead. There should be a small reset button under the dash coming off the alarm box, two brown wires going to an 1/8' button switch. Put the key in, turn it on and then press and hold the button.
  6. It's an oring type seal that goes between the pump and the block. Make sure you torque and locktite the backing plate screws. Gray RTV is all you need to seal it to the block.
  7. Flasher/blinkers go through the emergency flasher switch on the center of the dash. Did someone change the radio? If so they may have not plugged the connector back in.
  8. T-belt, idler pulleys, cam and crank seal and reseal the oil pump all due at 105K It's about $250 in parts + labor. The Gates Kits on amazon are good. You can go to a Subaru Dealer and have them pull the maintenance records for any work that has been done at a dealer and if you register the VIN with them in your name they will send you maintenance reminders.
  9. Depends on condition and maintenance its had. HG usually are external oil or coolant leaks. pretty easy to see. If its in good shape, its a good price.
  10. Do you have the Security System installed? It ties into the marker lights as if the battery is disconnected, when it's hooked back up they will flash until you reset the security system. The black box is usually under the drivers side dash panel.
  11. The speed sensor is part of the dash on your car. It's just a cable from the trans to the speedo.
  12. Search this form for frankenmotor, lots of info out there already. Might also do a google for frankenmotor Subaru as there are many other forms that will have additional info as well.
  13. Yes, I've used many of them, great quality for all the components in the kit. Don't forget the Subaru Cam and crank seals.
  14. yes, you will need to modify the stock HG a little or buy the custom HG to have all the coolant passages line up.
  15. Most likely the cable that goes to the temp door is no longer hooked to the flapper door or the dial on the panel The tab that connects the dial to the push pull cable breaks pretty easy.
  16. sounds like one engine had the evap up in the engine compartment and the other had it in the rear of the car. you can either swap intakes or simply loop the evap lines at the front of the engine. There should not be any extra fuel lines. There are just three of them.
  17. Sounds to me that your shift linkage has become disconnected from the trans. - Put the car on ramps or jack stands - get under the car and you will see the shift linkage going into the transmission on the drivers side rear of the transmission (right up above the rear trans cross member) - Have someone shift the transmission into all 6 positions - Did the trans input shaft move with each shift? If not you have found your problem - fix the linkage.
  18. A little more work is worth it. As far as finding a 2.2, local yards are best as you don't have to pay shipping. To get an idea of what's out there, use www.car-part.com and search for a 95 Legacy, the auto trans cars came with the EGR.
  19. I'd be willing to bet it's the breather plate that is causing the oil leak you are seeing and not the pan itself. RTV only on the pan. There is a breather seal at the right rear corner of the oil pan as well. I'd clean it up real well and watch it. If you are going to do the clutch and breather anyway, just wait until then to do the pan. Change out the PCV with a Subaru one. They clog up sometimes and cause high oil consumption.
  20. I'd try a stub shaft and used Subaru axle first. You could drain and check the front diff oil for metal.
  21. Did the Forester CC work before all of this swap over? I'd check the clutch and brake switches to make sure they are being activated correctly.
