  1. I picked up a 98 Legacy Outback with an Auto Transmission. There was a ton of play in the CV axles and it was rolling in park. Turns out the front differential retainer ring case was cracked. Sticking out 1/4 on the bottom. I've never seen that before. It has a 2.2 swapped into it already. Single port exhaust so I'm guessing 1996 - 99. Anyone know the transmission interchange years/models off the top of your head? I'll get the trans # to verify once it's out. Thanks, Larry
  2. Hopefully Dad has an OBDII reader for her and has taught her how to use it. Easy to clear.
  3. One driveline shop I called said they could not surface the dual mass fly wheels. Ordered a new Clutch kit including a fly wheel.
  4. I picked up a 06 Impreza OBS 2.5, Manual Trans. The car made a Brrrrr sound when first taking off or letting off the gas. Other than that the clutch and trans seemed fine. I pulled the trans today and the Fly Wheel is the two piece version. Not the solid. I think they call them dual mass? Can the Dual Mass fly wheels be surfaced. I thought I had a spare solid fly wheel but I could not find it in stock. Get the original surfaced? Buy a new solid fly wheel? Thanks Larry
  5. It's the trailing arm bracket that is longer. The arms are the same size. At least from the Forester to an Impreza.
  6. Emily you back in Denver?

    Hope all is well,

    Larry

  7. Sent PM and text. Happy to help!
  8. Aftermarket speakers. Drivers' door, one of the spade terminals was broken off the mount, I guess grounding out the speaker system.
  9. I remember a 98 Legacy a Kid had put in a radio. All the dash lights were out. Turns out they tapped into the wrong power source. 12V is not always 12V. I'll get a 2004 harness this week.
  10. I got the harness plugged in today. Everything works but the radio. The radio will power up, for a minute or so the speakers work but then the speakers go dead? I could not find any aftermarket componets under the seat. I tried several radios, they all do the same thing. There are 4 wires coming off the large white plug that I believe go to the cigarette lighter. Black, purple, orange/white, yellow/black. The harness was off a 2006. The Forester is a 2004, but Subaru told me they use the same panels. Off to the yard Wed! Any thoughts?
  11. 115K on the Impreza. It runs great. I drove it down from Denver today. Heat and A/C work great. I'll get it cleaned up and start a new thread in For Sale.
  12. Manual Controls, two cables one going to each side of the airbox. Good News, there are two connectors and a short 12" wire harness. The connectors are right above the airbag control ECU. Hard to see but there. Subaru parts told me 03 - 08 used the same heater control unit. I pulled one out of an 06 today. We'lll see!
  13. What does Subaru immobilizer do? An engine immobiliser is an electronic device which is fitted to the engine, preventing it from starting without using the correct key. When the key is inserted into the cylinder, a vehicle ID code is transmitted to the body integrated unit, which compares it to the code it has been registered with. Bunch of links on a Google search. Too new for me!
  14. I've pulled may dashes out of older Subaru's but not an 04 Forester. I may pull it out at the yard and if it's not too bad just get the complete harness. Anyone ever pull the dash out of a 2004 Forester?
  15. I picked up the 04 Forester. Theft, someone stripped out the center dash panel with all the Controls, radio, .... www.car-part.com and the Subaru Dealer list both an automatic and manual temp control version. Anyway, to verify?
  16. I picked up a clean Colorado Rust Free Impreza 2 door today. A couple of minor dings. Interior is clean, tan. Crank up windows. Great running 2.2 and auto trans. I'd be happy to drive it anywhere. If the swappers did not want the engine and trans, I'd keep them. Did you ever sell yours Subaru3? In Colorado Springs 80919. I'd deliver for the costs of the trip. GD you have a customer out in Portland looking for one? Larry
  17. Soak all the studs with PB Blaster or something. They break easy. In Rust Free Colorado, I'd just hit the yard and pull Subaru parts. Aftermarket Pumps are junk.
  18. Fuel Pump Relay under the dash is also a possibility. Check for voltage at the pump connector under load. You can jump the pump there with a battery as well. If you get a pump, get a Subaru Pump, after markets are pretty much junk.
  19. copper core NGK plugs are all that's needed. Subaru or NGK wires and standard NGK copper core plugs.
