  1. I thought maybe a battery issue. But I have tried 2 new batteries causing the same reaction. I may just change the wiring to my alternator and see if that makes a difference.

  3. I'll check that out. I don't believe I have checked that. It is hooked to the output power. I know I'm getting full power at the end of the output wire. The white with red goes to the gauge, and that doesn't always show correct voltage. Has been different reading with all alternator.
  4. Mine is internally regulated. Grounds are clean and seem to be working correctly. Maybe I am just working with another bad alternator

  6. I've daily driving her for awhile. Alternator quit charging. Simple, change the alt. Used a spare I had. Charging fine, on multimeter. Gauge in car is not accurate. Get to work, it's over charging. Bad voltage regulator? That was my thought. Bought a new one. Smelt hot and slowly increased to higher voltage. Exchanged it. Hooked up the new one. Charging great. Drive it 15 miles. Still great. Another 15 and it's charging at 16.5 again. Tried 2 new battery, grounds are clean. My gas gauge started working in the middle of this scenario and stopped again. My a/c quit working sometime ago. I can jump power to it and it turns on. Any opinions on this would be great. I'm racking my brain around this. Is it safe to say I got another bad alternator? Or do I have something thats causing over charge? It slowly increases voltage output
  7. 1982 ea81 glf 2wd coupe. so here's what's going on, volts, fuel and temp gauges start to work but don't read correctly, also my a/c compressor will not engage when I select. I can jump power to the switch and activate. my fans also see to be having this intermittent issue, now they all worked at one time and dwindled off. my question is what the the common circuit. maybe I need to go through and clean the main ground. I have had this engine out a few times. my dome light does not have power.. and my oil pressure gauge shoots to max as soon as ignition has power. and ideas would be great.
  8. check on ebay. I've seen a few monroe and I believe some kyb. they also sell the strut cartridge.they are daily limited from what I have came across
  9. Subaru scott is yours a convertible? Ive got the same yellow, but I also have the extra rear quarter window
  10. because I want mine low, I will avoid the taller tires... I am running a 5 speed. not sure the ratio. tires are new and I keep inflated. I have not altered the timing yet. that will be on my list
  11. that seems to be what I've found. and what I have done. my float level is low. I'm going to replace the float soon and I didn't put the carb spacer on last time I had it off . I tried capping off my smog lines to see if that changes anything this week. I want to go through my wheel bearings and my shocks and struts are shot, and my cv axles are on their way. but I still get 30 driving 65mph.
  12. I've got a 1982 2wd GLF EA81. I'm pulling about 30 mpg on average, running all stock with Hitachi carb.I'm lowered on stock 13". I don't see much of a thread for increasing out mpgs for us daily driver only guys. what can we take out of the system or add to get milage? I'm not worried about horsepower in this girl
  13. is there any site that sells new parts for the hitachi? I can get the carb kit from rock auto. but how about the secondary diaphragm ect..
  14. that would make sense! I was wondering the job of that solenoid. probably why I was getting too much fuel last time I went, and was smelling it once it warmed up. I ran an aftermarket temp gauge, taking the old sensor out of the loop. because the stock one was not working. after I have gone back to the stock sensor thinking it had something to do with the o2. and just like that the stock temp gauge came alive. that's when I started noticing my new carb issues. kit is on its way. and I'll give her another shot at the smog. thanks guys!
  15. so I picked up a pair or 82 glfs for a couple hundred bucks. figured it work as a great commuter. 5 speed ea81. 109k miles. I don't think a part was ever changed on it. after a bunch of mishaps and swapping of my ea81 engines I needed to get the title. which here means smog. out of the system with 0 paperwork. these cars were on the local Subaru lot before it went out of business and sat for 15 years. with a smog OK sticker in the window. should be a simple smog? not so far... so far I'm trying to figure out the point of the o2 sensor to the cat, it's a 2 wire, beings the car is fairly mechanical what does it do? i pulled it out and it's like the idea of a spark plug and wire? my temp sensor is a 2 wire. all these lead me to believe California emissions equip. I'm having standard issues with the hitachi, ran great after rebuild. now secondaries are not functioning. and it likes to stick the butterfly open to hold 1200 rpm.and the mixture screw all the way in. I'm going to rebuild the better of the 2 carbs again. the high idle switch has stopped working, before I messed with the o2 the idle would go up with ac on. after o2 it worked for heater and ac. never on start up with this carb. now not working at all unless bypassed. does anyone know what controls the high idle switch? if I run a hot wire I can make it create the vacuum it needs
