  1. I thought all ea82 engines had an asv system. I don't doubt it will run wrong as the heads are identical. Maybe it is a non-emissions engine?
  2. My ea82 sohc carbed wagon project is underway. Got a nice set of heads from a fellow member here. My new ones came off spfi engine. They have no port for the original asv setup that is on the old heads. Of course I found this out after I paid for plates to be cut for the asv elimination. (cleans up engine bay alot!). The casting inside the head on the heads with the asv ports say tk6. The new non asv heads say tk12. Is this just the difference from spfi and carb?
  3. If its a single port yes it will bolt right in.
  4. Hey ferp420 you seem to be dedicated to this chassis, have you received quotes yet for custom shocks and struts for the long travel you have been working on? I'm picking up some spare control arms to bring to my fabricator, just to see what we can come up with. I got a quote for custom axles, about $750 but that is prototype cost
  5. I get that most of us are in the same boat with pricing and having a car not worth much. Id just rather put the $2500 into a car with custom suspension parts than buy a side by side at 10k when my subaru is just as capable and it is not much wider. (plus a wagon I have a covered sleeping area)
  6. Thanks Scott. May I ask why we don't have extended control arms and axles yet? I'd be lab rat for you.
  7. Seeing all these lifted Subaru's, I am beginning to gather info for a lift. I have heard adf lifts are great and sjr lifts are great so I'm only after info on what shocks and springs to use as I don't want any negative going to either company. I will be lowering the cross member. I want enough clearance for a 27" tire. This is an 87 gl ea82 wagon. I want decent suspension travel, ride quality is not a big deal as I'm building it for off roading. Thanks on advance.
  8. I know where to get y fittings that scew into the weber if you need one. I capped my fuel the first time, flooded it constantly with a 5psi max pump at 30 gallon per hour. Use a 2-3.5 psi at 24-28 gallon per hour pump. That will keep you in good shape. Webers like flow not pressure
  9. Are you wearing heavier boots? On a serious note, how did you do your rebuild? New or reused pistons? Valve job? Perfect bore and hone? Deck the block and mill the heads? Worse milage after a rebuild is not right. Check ignition timing, run higher octane fuel, check plug gap, pcv valve. If you haven't already, install new plugs, wires, cap & rotor, fuel filter, amd air filter. Give it a good oil change after 500 mile break in.
  10. How and where do you have the battery grounded? The guy I bought my car from had no charge and coil wouldn't fire because the battery did not have enough of a ground. We ran two extra chassis grounds and she fired right away and started charging. Just a thought but it could be a cheap thought
  11. Welcome. I love the sleeper idea. If you want a swap Contact rally sport direct, they do wiring merges. Not a hard swap really, but buy a link stand alone. Bolt ons can net 350whp which is enough to run with some vettes. 10k might get you done nut that's tight, not possible if you are paying for labor. Get a 6 speed sti swap version 8 or later. 5 speed are junk as at 350whp they snap crack and pop. Figure $6500 for version 8 engine, trans diff axles and harness, add 1k for maintenance,(timing belt oil pump new filters plugs etc) $850 I was quoted for my GC wagon wiring, $1300 for ecu and $600 dyno tune time. That's gonna get you started
  12. Cool find. Hitachi carbs are crap, webers the way to go. Check ignition timing and the million vaccuum hoses. New plugs and wires. Just a general tune up and lots of tlc and it will be a fun car
  13. Buy a felpro permatorque head gasket set. No retorque needed. Oil pump seals, factory subaru cam tower o ring and intake manifold gaskets. These engins are cake work. I never have messed with one and got the whole engine out in less than 2 hrs and it was my first time. Personally, im going to be hitting my local pick yard and make a habit of storing spare much needed parts as been recomended by so many others
  14. Hey wash wagon. Contact mr whirly here, here has a great set of dual port heads. Sent me pictures, not a crack to be seen in the pics i got. Im buying a single port set from him and i can tell you hes legit.
  15. Check ignition timing. That will make it idle bad. Also webers dont need a lot of fuel
  16. Hey dave thanks for th info. Im hoping i can use the ac compressor from the ej, but if worse case arrives then windows still work.
  17. So i just bought two cars and a few spare parts of another member who told me about this site. First, my wifes project a 1995 Impreza outback. Plans to replace engine with another ej22 which i have out of my old sandrail. Car has rod knock. I did drive the car and it drives tight. My next is a 1987 Subaru GL wagon, dual range trans, blown engine. An ej22 is taking its place. After talking to alot of people i am finding no ej swapped gls have air conditioning. If somebody does know how to make it work please pm me as i regularly see 100 degree heat! thats about it.
