  1. The oil pump pulley doesn't appear to have any guides. I was wondering if maybe I swapped the oil pump gear and crank gear. I am almost certain that the crank gears are on the right order, but I could be wrong. Is there a keyway on both crank gears or just one?
  2. My EA82 is running better than ever... for now. The driver's side timing belt is slowly getting eaten away. The cause? I'm not sure. But what I do know is that the belt is walking off the back of the camshaft sprocket and the crankshaft timing gear... and the tensioner... and the idler pulley. The point is the belt is walking towards the back of the engine and I don't know why. I've redone the belt tension a couple of times and the belt will be centered, but when I start the car, walk to the hood and look at the cam sprocket, it is right back to walking off the sprocket. It runs and drives, I've been driving it for about a week now. But I know eventually that thing is going to snap. What could cause this?
  3. One thing I forgot to mention is I do have lights and radio and all that stuff.
  4. I have a freshly resealed ea82 that I have been driving for the past couple of days. It has been great, today I noticed the alternator drive belt was a bit loose retightened it after it the car stalled out on me. I had my dad jump start me and everything seemed fine. I went on my way to wash my car, after driving it for about 10 minutes to recharge the battery, and shut it off. After finishing the wash I started her up and went home. I tried to start it to go to the parts store and it wouldn't even crank over. I replaced the alternator about two years ago. The battery is a month old. What gives? Right now I'm checking/cleaning my grounds. Where are all the grounds on a 93 loyale? I've found three, one under the spare tire, one under the ignition coil, and one by the battery.
  5. Found the vacuum leak,it was the little elbow of the thermostat housing I forget to connect. now to fix up the fan.
  6. The bubbles are while sitting in the driveway. I'll get the electric fan on asap. And I also replaced the piston rings so I don't think that's the smoke issue. I'll look for a vacuum leak as well, thanks for the input.
  7. I let the car warm up and the smoke was still present, even after I gutted the cat. When I'm driving the car, the temp gauge stays below the middle which is awesome, I've never felt this comfortable driving this car. On the other hand, if I'm just letting it idle in the driveway, it eventually begins to overheat. I checked the coolant tank and there are indeed bubbles in the tank, but only after it idles for about a minute or two. I am not running any fans because the connector pulled right out of the wires when I went to connect them. I also hear a hissing sound from my passenger head side. Does this mean I didn't install that headgasket properly or is the bolt torque an issue? Thank you in advance.
  8. I've gotten most everything out except for a metal plate. It seems to big to fit out of the exhaust pipes.
  9. I'm currently trying to gut my cat by sticking a screwdriver through the o2 sensor hole and hammering away. I don't have access to a welder, is there any easier way to gut it?
  10. Thank you gloyale and everyone else, I got it running by resetting the belt, thinking I was one tooth off. I remembered reading somewhere about the cam dots facing out and I set them to that position. Put the rotor at 1 and it started right up! Now a problem I've been having ever since I got the car that still happens is smoking out of the catalytic converter. What would cause this? A bad cat or something else?
  11. pulled the plugs and smelled gas and the plug was wet. Sparks are happening
  12. There is a gas smell and there aren't any junkyards that have a loyale near me. Anyone know where I could get one?
  13. I turned the crankshaft until the 0 mark and when I removed the dist cap, the rotor was pointing at the number 2 spark plug. So I reset it to the 1 spark plug, this is correct? and if the maf is bad or injector, how available are those parts?
  14. Wouldn't that cause all gears to slip? Not just 3rd and 4th? The car has 297k miles on the original transmission, I'm thinking it's more of a synchronizer teeth wear issue.
  15. I rechecked the timing and sure enough the distributor was 180 degrees off, but now that I put it at TDC and have the distributor facing the 1 spark plug it just backfires and I cant even get it to run with the pedal on the floor.
  16. It runs sometimes when you hold the pedal to the floor
  17. It took a little bit for the video to upload sorry, yes to spark. The timing marks on the cam gears line up.
  18. Tell me what you guys think. I'm thinking bad gas because it's been sitting for over a year. Am I being too optimistic?
  19. The front differential is a part of the transmission, no? And how do I find out the front differential ratio?
  20. I have a 1996 Outback MT that slips out of third and fourth gear. I saw a local posting for a 2000 2.5 RS being parted out. According to this transmission chart, http://www.northursalia.com/techdocs/trannychart/trannychart.html, the transmission has matching gears and differential. Has anyone done this/can anyone confirm this to work?
  21. Yes, I got a new one after the first leak to ensure a good seal. I'll try no sealant, thank you.
  22. Hi, I have a 93 Loyale that I'm filling fluids with and getting ready to start up. The problem is whenever I fill it with coolant, it leaks out of the water pump. I've done the water pump twice with the same result, frustrating. Any tips on what gasket maker to use? I am using Permatex Ultra Black. What bolts to thread in first? I did the star pattern tightening. Do I even need the paper gasket that comes with pump? Any help is appreciated.
