Mathewson's Automotive (Renton, Washington) kept my old 86 Subaru GL running for the past 20+ years......until engine finally gave out at over 340,000 miles. They typically work mostly on vintage hot rod and collector cars, but I used them because they knew their s.... If they are within striking distance of you and your 87 Brat, I'd consider using them for your engine rebuild needs.

I'll try to snap a pic of moms car tomorrow without her knowing. If she sees me, she will know I'm up to something....lol. I'd like to replace hers with a new uphostered/restored one. But she gets weird about modifying her original stuff, so wouldn't let me do it to hers. Which is why I want to just get another one and fix up that one. The vinyl on hers is turning to dust now on the top from years of sun damage. I'll post a pic of the one that came out of mine showing the difference for that triangle piece tomorrow, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hey guys, I have a parts request, which is exclusive to only the 1985 GL model. I'd like to get a set of the interior door (front) upper vinyl coated armrests for moms car. She has the 1985 version, and this part is different because the outside side mirrors are mounted to the body......not through the window like the 1986-1994 ones. The 1985 one doesnt have part of it cutout for the triangle plastic cover section. The vinyl condition is not important, I only need the raw plastic molded parts......since Ill have them reupholstered with new vinyl anyway. I have a picture of my old 1986 one, but the part I need MUST be from the 1985 model only. Any of you got a set to sell? I'll take the rear set too if you have them as well.

Everytime I went to a boneyard for parts, I always grabbed those connectors. I bet zi have around 6 or so in pretty good shape. No, I'm not parting with them.

OK......today was the day. I sold my Subaru, and I got my asking price too. But the best part for me was knowing it was going to a local buyer and that he is a Subaru nut like the rest of us. He plans on taking out the 1.8 carb engine.....rebuilding it.......and putting in back into his other (less than steller condition one) GL. My old car is going to get the deluxe treatment with the upgraded Fuel Injection type......since its in better shape overall. I'm just glad it went to a new home to be saved once again and will continue to live on.........was a great car I will always remember as "The RedRoo". I'll still be active on this board, got moms 85 to still keep going, lol. The money from the sale will buy some much wanted accessories for my Honda Element, so its a "win win" for all involved.
