    Mudding!

A couple from a club night run in sunny QLD.
  2. Here's a pic of a mates car.2" lift outback struts and raised springs. It has insane amounts of clearance under the diff
  3. Here's a article with a pic of a strut lenghten at the bottom http://www.subaclub.com/MyCar/Shera.htm
  4. I use long handle flat blade screw driver on the teeth of the TC.In through the inspection hole or from below.
  5. Swapping front diffs on ej auto's is easy. You can even swap ratio no probs,4.44 or 4.11.The pinions that came with the diff gear stays with it.You don't even need to reshim etc.Basically if going from 4.11 to 4.44 you use the donor 4.44 diff housing complete and you keep the pinion gear/shaft and bearing and shims from the 4.44 .The hardest part is believing you can do it.Shoot me down if you like.I have and know of several boxes built this way with plenty of miles and still running strong.
  6. This is a write up i did for putting any subaru alt into any model. http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4260 Will
  7. Bottom of the page www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75754&page=4 shows what you need to cut and shut to make one fit in original location.
  8. This http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7336 may help you out.
  9. I had some pics of the spline part of the ea drum machined out and the legacy hub spline machined off and then the two joined by keying and welding.Any machinist/fitter could do this.
  10. Allright got a shaft.Heres the combo i used a fwd auto ea 81 shaft, outer cup and the ea81 inner ball race which i slipped on a early ej inner cup not sure which model it came of but its about the same size as the ea one that came of and the ball and race matches. I fit it up to a auto ej front diff[25 spline]. One thing to watch for is ej box maybe slightly wider at the stubs limiting the inward movement at the inner cup.
  11. 2wd/fwd ea81 shaft. The aus mpfi manual g/box are 25 spline, only the auto and carby ones got 23.If i find some time i might knock aset up and give a pic i have a collection of various ea81 ,ea82 & ej22 shafts and cups.
  12. Ea81 shaft and outercup +ea82 mpfi inner cup. ej auto stub axles pull out slip ring, ea auto is circlipped must be removed internally.
  13. Some permformance shops in Australia respline the hubs for 5 lug swap. Also have seen ea spline machined out leaving spline intact ,ej spline removed from hub ,ea one added and pinned then welded.
  14. When bratgeebah was doing the liberty/legacy brakes onto early sube kits they were using ea81 driveshafts with 22 spline [i think these wer found on fwd ones] and a liberty/legacy outer cv.If you can get onto him he knows a lot about mixing and matching shafts ,cv's etc to get it to work.
  15. 1:Run a tranny cooler 2:keep a eye on the fluid 3:get a stash of auto boxes Ran these autos for a few years before swapping in ej22 and ej auto.3AT rob a bit of power from the already under powered ea82 .Big sandhills were my enemy.Never got towed or stuck ,just have to drive differently.
  16. Did it originally have the vtd rear transfer[planetry gears and clutches]?Most electronically minded people say such things are easy, pot switches adjustable ,use a controller like in radio contolled car etc,but getting one done is another story.A few australian shops have made the centres adjustable but the cost is high.Myself and a few others are very interested in controlling the centre but we are using the vtd centres.Keep us updated on this one.
  17. Have a look here http://www.endwrench.com/archive/sysdrive.html lots of 4eat info.Don't be fooled by the dates of the articles as they don't corespond with the year of the trans. Here's a manual for the svx auto http://www.hi.is/~vladisla/Detailed4EAT_vladrulli.pdfs
  18. Vtd is on wrx and tt in australia ,not sure in the states if it was the same. The vtd[variable torque distribution] transfer has a planetery gear set and clutches it is more rear wheel bais .Clutch pack transfers were pretty much on everything else.
  19. The difference i've seen in speed sensors is not the sensor but the wheel it gets its count off.A vtd style rear transfer has 22 teeth and a clutch pack style transfer has 30 if i remember correctly. This will confuse the tcu as the counts per revolution are different.I don't think it will be a prob with the mentioned auto boxes.
  20. I agree with kepping the tcu matched to the vechicle.I'm currently running a turbo tcu in a n/a vechicle, normal driving its ok but as soon as you hold it flat it over revs between gears .Put simply the shift points are different.
  21. its on bearings and swings out. There's a big silver spring loaded catch that keeps it shut.I'll post some open pics later.
