  1. Good guy and he does know his stuff. Spends most of his time with the new stuff. His turbo'd n/a 2.5RS is the baddest.
  2. You didn't buy it from Corky. He sold it some time ago. That buyer/owner got laid off from Boeing I believe.
  3. Vice... Are you familiar with the Justy? Not much involved in replacement with a used engine of that size. It's an inline 3 cyl. Knowing the history of a car is invaluable, in my opinion. Besides, it sounds like she doesn't have room to part it out anyway. Given that fact the value for scrap or whole is next to nothing. Looks like you got a decent car with a newer drivetrain for an additional $400.00 investment. Do you know what that's worth in the long run? Engine replacement is more work than replacing an alternator. However, it is not that difficult with the proper guidance and advice.
  4. No, it wasn't actually. His wife made him decide over projects. He chose the EA82 Turbo sedan over it. He did the 1600 to 1800 swap. You should contact him for the history.
  5. The reason I asked about the ladder was how much room it took in the wheel well. You may or may not have issues with it and the larger tires. Mostly when the suspension is compressed. Cool set up.
  6. Yep, same location. It just looks like a pipe fitting before you take the hose loose. Word of caution though. The hose will more than likely be brittle. If you unthread the valve first you can usually get the hose off without breaking it.
  7. If time is a concern I think the fastest way to remedy this prblem is with a used motor. Where exactly is high wycombe? I'm assuming England or Scotland. That motor is a cross plant I believe. At least the block anyway. The fuel system may be different. All you really need is a good long block and a day to swap parts and install. A weekend would be a good idea just incase you have a problem or two. It would be much less expense than another vehicle. Anything reliable will be much more than the repairs. Depending on your location we may be able to find you some help and support. Ken PS, Hey John, there were alot of them sold. But, the biggest problem was the auto. Once people learned the cost of replacement they usually ended up in the junk yards. Except for those that got converted to 5sp's.
  8. After a small back injury I am a maybe at best, right now. I'll update if things change. Ken
  9. Yes, Caleb is right. Blue Hatch is Mudrats and the maroon Hatch is mine. There's also a shot of me and Eric("Bob"). I didn't realize they had pics of us from the "Taste".
  10. '81 is an external regulated model. SOunds like a bad regulator. But that doesn't explain the stop running condition. Although the fuel pump may run off of the charging curcuit. Kind of a failsafe, if the vehicle isn't running the fuel pump won't continue to run. I'd say replace the regulator and see if that cures both problems.
  11. That looks like Lewy!! Did you find it on 277th? If so, that's Corky's(Dr RX) old Hatch.
  12. Are you using Pugs or something else? the 26's themselves won't require much trimming. It depends solely on which wheels you use. How does your ladder mount to the car?
  13. Stand in front of the car. Looking down at the engine look to the back side of the intake manifold just right of the carb. You'll see the heater hoses and a large diameter hose that enters the intake. The PCV is right there. It does screw in with a 19mm wrench.
  14. I've used that area for storing my tool bag. As far as getting wet, not much water gets there most of the time. As long as you don't park it in the water/mud. The behind the seat storage works well. I had a tool box built into my Hatch. But Dante needs his rear seat(at least half of it) for a passenger). And another thing. Most people get carried away with the "extra" space a wagon provides. Too much weight is a bad thing. Keep all the extra's to a minimum to keep the weight down.
  15. I think, if they put us in production, you guys will be surprised by how you do. Unfortunately, most of you will be in open because of the Webers. But, I don't think this will be the end of our competetiveness. Try not to look at this as a set back but rather a challenge. We'll be back on top in no time. Then what will they do?
  16. Yes, that has been done. On an '80 or '81 Hatch. 28" TSL Swampers and no lift. Bada$$ hatch went everywhere my lifted Hatch did. It only needed a gentle tug to keep going from time to time.
  17. Start your car and make sure it is warmed up. After the choke has released go pull back on the gas pedal. Thes get sticky. Odd as it sounds alot of times all that needs to be done is to lube the pivot point. (BTW, this could be Matt's problem as well) The fact that you can force the idle down indicates that something is sticking. Have you tried to adjust the idle? It is very difficult on the C-W. You need a small allen wrench and alot of patience.
  18. John, if the mains spun the block is done. You may be able to find a cheap used engine and install it your self though. The 1.2 is the 3cyl and shouldn't weigh much. Either way you go, good luck.
  19. Jason went through quite a few axles that weekend. He had to take the broken ones and start rebuilding them on the tailgate. The lift did indeed hold up though. The lift is doable. But... it will require a lot of fabbing in the rear. Either swapping in different rear suspension or building from the original. The biggest problem with using the original rear suspension is that the rear arms are too close to the tires already. This will drastically limit the tires and or wheels you can use. Get very familiar with your Brat's suspension and then you will get the idea of what we are talking about. Again, it has been done and will work. You just need to decide how much you are willing to spend.
  20. Yes, Turbo Brats were a limited run from Subaru, only 1983 and 1984. EA81T is the predeccesor(?) to the EA82T. It does run well when tuned correctly. The problem with off-road turbos is that they need more rpm's to operate correctly. Most of my off-roading is done at under 2000 rpm's. Miles, all Brats run the EA81. (Except for those that have been converted/modified by their owners). If the rust is repairable I would say fix it. As long as it doesn't get into the thousands to fix. You may be able to find another Brat body and swap your set up into it. Granted, it is alot of work but could be worth it. Or... you could just sell the Brat as is and get something that will suit your needs better.
  21. Yes, you will need to get a custom job. All of the EA82 driveshafts are too long. I also reccommend that when they build it have them do servicable u-joints at the same time. It'll cost a little more but is very worth it in the long run. You can have the two piece alterred or have them make a longer one piece unit.
  22. Yes, but if you want that handy lift lever behind the passenger seat they will have to come from a Hatch or coupe. The Brats, sedans and wagons didn't have them.
  23. The upper locks are a bit different if memory serves(which it doesn't always).
  24. If it is the silver one it is being parted. The tailgate is so-so. Some of the interior parts were missing. I think it was hit on the passenger side wasn't it? Usually the rebuilds are inside the corral. If it is still across the street it's for parts.
