The best all-round all-season tire in My opinion is from Les Schwab. It is the Toyo Spectrum touring radial. They are an excellent rain tire. They perform well in all weather extremes as well. Your tire size s/b 195/60R15. Here's a link to the tire and their website. Link

Oregon Rally Group Rallyx meeting 11/19
Qman replied to edrach's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
The first thing that comes to mind is the actual point system that decides class. ie., engine displacement, AWD/4WD, turbo, non turbo, tires and such. I know for a fact that some of the unnamed protestors are not running in their correct classes. I understand the complaint about a station wagon running in truck/suv. However, the VIN plate is the registration designator. Any changes made will definitely take away from the class. But, the competition will remain. I sure would like to go to one of these meetings. Maybe the decision meeting will be delayed to Jan. as I would have a new allotment of vacation to use. I am waiting to see what the postings will be on ORG site to make a complete statement. -

87 wagon idles but stalls under load
Qman replied to jburgess987's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Try starting it with the gas cap off. It may be vapor locking. There have been quite a few instances of this lately. Another thought. I see you have an '87 carbed engine. I always thought they went to SPFI in '87 and eliminated the carb engine. You say you just got the car, right? Did the previous owner change the motor or anything that they disclosed? Just soem thought's. I'll think more about it at work tonight. -
I think the next time you see the chihuahua you should go run over the owner. The dog is a roamer. They always have been. People have made them stationary. When people let their animals roam unattended it does a lot of harm to neighborhoods and the animals. W had a problem with cats but I think natural selection took care of that(Coyotes or Wolves, yes, reports of wolf hybrids being released by a breeder a number of years ago) But the dogs are bigger and get much more attenton. Maybe if we euthenize(sp?) an owner or two the rest of the world might just get the idea. And yes, I have dogs and cats. I have always had pets/friends since I was very young.

I have mine off the Brat. It is noticable on road as well as off road. The benefit to not having it is that the front suspension will work independantly. With the sway bar connected the front will fight itself to keep the front wheels even.

XT6 clutch PP into EA81?
Qman replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would say that you should replace that pilot bearing as well as the throw out bearing. -
XT6 clutch PP into EA81?
Qman replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Rick, I would let it be. It will work fine as it is now.The combination of PP, disc and throwout bearing isn't that tough really. The XT6 flywheel is lighter by about 4lbs than an EA82. The critical measurement is the depth of the flywheel. It can be cut into any of the flywheels. I used the XT6 flywheel and presuure plate. The XT6 throw out bearing is the same as the EA82. The disc is for the 5sp. I used a new clutch cable. I would try the new(used) one we just put in for a while and test things out with it. It will work fine as that is the same set up most of the guys run. Ken -
HP's Annual Christmas tree run
Qman replied to Qman's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yes, 1 tree per pass. They are available on a first come basis. There is not a quantity limit either. So, if you want one you should do so as they will run out. It's just a matter of when. -
HP's Annual Christmas tree run
Qman replied to Qman's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
They are $10.00 ea. You can get them at the ranger station. I believe you have one at Lynnwood or Everett. Snohomish county Ranger district. -
The EA81 turbo crossover is indeed the same as an EA82. It fits fine if you have the turbo crossmember. There is a cutout, or dent if you will, that allows for the up pipe portion of the crossover to go through. If you have a oil pressure gauge you will need to move it by adding a 90' fitting. The skid plate will need to be altered a little to accomodate the front side of the pipe. Not any issues with the pan or other clearance issues. The standard y-pipe will fit between both EA81 and EA82 engines. I sometimes forget which is which as they are very similar.

It will make it with all seasons but definitely not the 18's. -
Here is the fix from our on-line repair manual. Worn bushing fix Also check to make sure you have the correct fluid levels. The dipstick on the passenger side of the trans is for the front differential and trans. You are just down the highway from me. I'm in Sumner/Buckley area. Let me know if you'd like to get together and meet.

I have your permit Ed. Your other post did take. It is in the "Meet and Greet". Yes indeed, the Forester will be just fine. We usually have enough snow to keep us entertained without looking for anything too extreme.

I believe John said something about it being the first weekend of December. I'm sure he'll post about it as it gets closer.
-
Anyone who wishes to remove a tree will be required to have a permit attached to each tree. They are $10.00 ea. I can get some more for those who need them. They went officially on sale today. Probably won't last through December so let me know ASAP.

5spd into ea81 trouble! help! (pics and questions)
Qman replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This will not be allowed to become a flame war. If it can not stay on the topic it will be moved to off topic and or closed. If anyone has a problem with someone else deal with it off board. Jerry's product is just as advertised. It was and is designed for upgrades from EA81 4sp D/R to EA82 5 sp D/R transmissions. Anything else is beyond the design and should be the responsibilty of the end user. Modifying automobiles can and will be a difficult process. Most people can not do it on their own. That is why it is important for our community to have people like Jerry, John, Scott, Adam and other. And yes, even Miles. We don't always believe some of the antics but he does have alot of creativity that aids many people. It is not always easy to modify somethng that cost millions of dollars to design and engineer to become something else. It's not for everyone and everyone should not try it. -
We'll be going up to Greenwater again. Out along FS70 towards the snowpark. Probably around 10:00am.

Rear Disk Brake conversion on 85 Brat
Qman replied to Rbeyerbubba's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No, you can't. They are different and smaller. What you want to look for is any EA82 car. Specifically any wagon, sedan, coupe or XT(not the XT6) in turbo form. Almost all of them had the rear disc brakes. 2wd or 4WD will work but if you need 4WD you'll need at least the rear hubs. All the rest of the parts are the same. You may want to share the locale of the XT6 as many of the board members are looking to do a 5 lug conversion. Good luck! -

I guess my one thought is whether or not they will try to make a clas just for us(older Subaru 4WD). I would like to see a competative class. I guess I am also afraid that they may try to ban the cars and wagons from truck/SUV. -
I am getting tree permits tomorrow and want to know who's interested. We are looking at the last weekend in November(Nov 29th) or the second weekend in December(Dec 13th) I would prefer Nov 29th. Please let me know who's gonna go and if Nov 29th will work for you.(it is Thanksgiving weekend BTW)
