Subaru Slow?
Qman replied to BIGBLUE1212's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
NO! That is not why! Gearing, power to weight ratio's, aerodynamics... Besides, unless you know the owner of the civic it could have been swapped. Most swaps happen to civics(sleepers). Street racing is not only dangerous, it is flat out stupid. The fines and sentences have gotten so high and expensive that it usually isn't worth it. -
Swap in Progress what clutch/flywheel & plugs/o2?
Qman replied to dome24's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
2.2 flywheel and clutch or better, 1.8 will work but is lighter duty. plugs for the 2.2. O2 for the 1.8 as it will match the plug. And you will only need one I believe. I did this swap with my kids '93 L and he loves it. A little less mpg's but the increae in power is worth it he says. -
Window/door adjustment ??, guru help appreciated
Qman replied to daeron's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can adjust the striker on the B-pillar. That should solve your problem unless the door is out of alignment. Do you see any rub marks around the door frame? If you do not see any marks then adjust the striker. Do not take the screws out of it though. Just loosen them enough to slide the striker around. -
EA81 SPFI Conversion Manual ready for preview
Qman replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nicely done Rick. -
Never had a problem getting them before. Where are you trying to find one? Do you have any driveline shops in your area? You could always go to the PaP in Oly and pull a couple of used ones.

If you see Dave's car let him or the local law enforcement know. This is not the place to discuss half-baked idea's about getting him or beating, etc. This is the second time in as many days that I have had to state these same things. I don't want to do it again.

Specs Needed: WRX Flywheel vs EA82
Qman replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, actually, the flywheel is the flywheel and the crank pulley is the crank pulley. I am sure you meant to say that the EA82 is externally balanced. But, what you neglected to mention is that they have a standard weight and removing material from the flywheel will not hurt anything as they are not matched sets, right? -
Last PRG rallycross of 2006---Oct. 15th.
Qman replied to edrach's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Word has it that the event will be held in the same corner the original NWR event was held in 2004. Pretty rough unless some work has been done there by the track prior to this. We'll see as I will be there. Chances are the Brat will be making another appearance as I don't want to wreck the Impreza. But, the skid plate should be strong enough to handle it. We'll see. -
Your response is accurate Scrap. SM reaction is as juvenile as I've seen in a while. He asked a question and I answered it. If you do not want an answer don't ask the question.

Specs Needed: WRX Flywheel vs EA82
Qman replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The bolt pattern can be modified to work between both flywheels. The offset of the EJ is different. Exact dimensions I do not know. The XT6 flywheel in stock form will give you a savings of about 5 LBS. The stock EA flywheel can be lightened. A few people have been successful in doing so. I have a lightened EA82 flywheel(-7lbs) in the Brat and have never smoked a clutch in it. I run an XT6 clutch set in it too. Keep in mind that with a lighter flywheel you will lose some of the bottom end and drivability. There won't be as much momentum to keep the low rpm driving smooth. My suggestion is to stick with EA parts. They will perform to the level you need them. -
Sorry Gary, your numbers are right but the rest is inaccurate. The 2.5 is not plug and play. You have to play with wiring and connectors and manifolds and such. As one of the few on this board who have done this swap with success and increases across the board in performance feel free to pm or email me for specifics Burton.

85 GL-10 does not want to turn off
Qman replied to Subieguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Chances are the connector has melted and is now shorting out. As Northwet described it is located under the steering column. Usually a pink connector but could be brown also. Comes down from the ignition switch. Also. there are screws that hold the electrical part of the switch to the keyed part of the ignition switch. You can replace just that part. -
Gary, the other post has all the disadvatages listed. It is a hack job at best. Guarranteed to devour axles, mounts and possibly even struts/mounts.
-
Check the hill holder. It seems to point to that as you stated that it was in neutral in both. Just loosen the nut on the hill holder cable. It is located on the top end of the clutch fork.

The box on top of the coil is part of the ignition. Sorry Skip, not a suppressor. However, check the fuse box. There will be a fuse marked ignition. Check it and the fusible links in the engine compartment. Check for power at the coil as well. You may have a bad condensor, points or even cap as well. Find where you lose elictricity and work from there.

That is the issue. We have dealt with the same things before here. People just didn't realize what we do. Or, for that matter, how we do it. The bigger rig will do all the trails that the little one can do much easier. The little one can do some of the trails the big one can do with breakage and a lot of effort. It is still driver that makes any rig do what it does, and laws. Our laws are starting to change regarding off-roaders. We don't have inspections and such that are as stringent as yours but they are headed that way all the same. It really is like comparing apples and oranges when comparing 3-4" standard lifts with 6"+ with transfer cases and such.

Never stopped anyone from doing a V-8 conversion, and shouldn't hold up a 3.3 conversion either. You may have to make it a mid-engine though.

It appears that this event has been postponed until further notice. -
Then simply say that. The conversation between the two of you can easily be misunderstood. As far as Chilton and copyright infringement. Most of the time they get the manuals from the source or just buy them like any one else could. Chilton does claim to do complete tear down and rebuild. Although I don't quiet agree with some of the info I have seen over the years.

That is true for the D/R. However, I am not sure that the '81 is the same as the rest. The linkage should be different but I am not positive as I never took the trans out of my '81.

Excellent explanation. And all true!!

My set up is for lights and a winch. It is all ran by a 165amp Alternator provided by Premier Power.
