  1. PK, it will bolt up just like the 5 sp. Change the bellhousing, not! You may need to change the axles to match but I don't know for sure. You may also have to tap tap the tunnel to accomodate the larger anchor you're about to install. Good luck!! Definitely will need the Comp and wiring to boot. Is this much work going to be worth it?
  2. 2.7 on the stand for 6 months +. A couple of others as well. Definitely FOS!
  3. That would be unsafe for a number of reasons. Heat being the biggest. Double wall pipe would make it very expensive. Besides, wouldn't it look a bit odd? The turbo crossover has been used on a N/A motor with success.
  4. Napolean Dynamite said it best... IDIOT! (Sorry)
  5. Well, since I was called upon I guess I should show up. I knew there would be flack from this. I didn't, however, think that it would have come from someone a little more knowledgable and intellegent. I guess I was wrong on both counts. The rules are the rules. There will be no exceptions or exclusions. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/announcement.php?f=2 The rules are very clear as what is acceptable. These guidelines are how it will be. Fight this and the Administrators will have no choice but to turn off signatures and avatars. The membership has the choice but there will be no discussion regarding it. Any and all posts dealing with this in any forum other than site help will be deleted immediately and the poster will risk a temporary ban. We are very serious about this. I am tired of putting out fires and babysitting. Let's just go back to Subaru's. That is what we are here for isn't it? Very dissapointed in you as well Vicky. As a guest in my home you should know better. I guess we all have to live with our decisions.
  6. All I need to say is make sure you have a good support crew and bring spares. The BAJA is no joke. I am not sure either will finish but I wish you good luck to complete it.
  7. How'd the cam look? People need to realize that some is good and more is bad!
  8. Plus the fact that my trans was in 3 cars that I know of. It was in the '86 wagon I pulled it from. Then my old Hatch. Now there was a hard life. Then into my Brat. My guess is over 200K on it. And it was weak when I put it in the Brat. Reverse was going out and it ground a bit going into 2nd. Got to love it though. It's all good Tex. Not everything can stand up to the abuse we put it through.
  9. Your car is totalled. The definition of a total is that the repair cost is more than the value of the car. That would be market value not asking price but selling price. You need to find comps, these are actual selling prices or an appraised value of your car. Having a bunch of no faced people from the internet tell you what they'd pay or take for theirs won't help a bit. Insurance companies deal in hard cold facts and numbers not presumed numbers from average citizens. You can get what you think your wagon is worth if you only present them with true and valid comps. Wasting their time with anything else will not help your cause. Good luck and maybe with the right preparation you'll be as lucky as Bratsrus was with his Brat.
  10. Pssst, don't tell anyone but... I'm #2. Yes, severe abuse has been the killer every time. The showing up the Jeeps was just that. We were all going up the main trail when they decided to take the quad trail. They were all locked front and rear. While I did it open front and rear. Made it through with some extra effort.
  11. Cooler for who? A H3, Tahoe, or any other SUV will provide alot of things for "New" parents(lol). The Foresters are sort of small all things considered. I remember hauling more stuff for the kid than I ever needed on a week long camping trip. Short term vehicle ownership will make it worth it for them. They do not sounds like the type of people who cater toward Subaru. Can't force them. Afterall they are grown ups now aren't they?
  12. Sounds like the carb needs to be cleaned, rebuilt or replaced. You may need a carb base plate gasket or the base plate could be loose. Could even be as simple as a cracked vacuum line. The altitude compensation valve is neccessary in your area. The air is thinner and the valve compensates for it. Sounds like you need to find a shop that knows Subaru's. The brake issue is due to poorly adjusted rear brakes.
  13. While you are right about the transmissions imploding. I think the fact that all of them have had in excess of 150K makes me believe that a fresher trans would not implode so quickly. Also, if the abusers would have been a bit nicer on their equipment it probably would still be running today.
  14. 100-150hp should be reasonably easy to attain. Even out of a carbed block! There are aftermarket sources for these engines. Some of the stuff has to be modified some to make it work though. Delta Engineering makes camshafts for all the Subaru engines. Torque and higher HP grinds. Weber carbs as well. Other's have used fuel systems from other vehicles and such. Check around in the retro forum. The nice thing about Subarus is that the engineers usually use some parts from a previous model. This means things like pistons from another engine with higher compression will work in your block. The heads can be ported and polished to aid some. Fuel and exhaust work will need to be done to ensure that you utilize the mods that you try. It has to take more air in and be able to let it out again. You will find that it is easier to get the power you are looking for from an EJ block. So when people say you can get higher performance out of your Subaru remember that there is always a way to do anything. BTW, I have an idea what I am talking about. I have built two performance EA81's and a couple of XT6's(ER27). And personally know a few guys who have gotten a lot more out of the EA82 than anyone thought possible. Do your research and you will find the answers.
  15. Price is relevant to location. Being in Colorado the availability of older Subaru's is more prevalent. The condition is a bit rough so I would estimate value at $500-1000.
  16. 1994 Loyales used the EA82. The crank can be checked for tolerances and trueness. Any good machine shop can check it out.
  17. Brian, are you kidding? Read his reply. Why do you want to replace the fan? If you are worried about HP scavaging then you should consider removing A/C and everything else on the motor that isn't neccessary. Oh, and don't put that power robbing big deck in there. The drain on the alt would rob power as well. Seriously though, the EA82T is temermental enough stock. Why make it worse?
  18. '80-81 4wd wagons and '82 Brats. A few people have retro-fit them to other years. McBrat's '82 Brat
  19. Yes, it is possible. Any gains? I think so. I'll have to explain it to you when we talk. It is kind of complicated but it seems to work OK.
  20. They will interchange. The main difference is in the trans mount hanger on the exhaust pipe. I'll have to look at them when I get home to make sure which is which. But if you look at the hanger at the end of the trans you should be able to tell which is which.
  21. That whole fight is so old. Almost every resident there moved there knowing full well there was a race track there. Sorry, just real tired of that particular arguement.
