  1. I can buy into the regional thing. Can no one offer a rebuttal to my other points though?
  2. Silly answer, look where you're going! But seriously, the guards only make it more difficult to change the broken lense. Bumper mounted guards are the way to go but then so is exo-skeleton.
  3. I know you were, just as I was. However, I stand by my opinion. If they were that rare I would not be able to drive 30 minutes in any direction and find 5 of them. I know of 3 within 5 minutes of me. I guess the rare Subaru to me is the Turbo Brat. I haven't seen one in person. I know that there are 3 rally prepped RX's in the states. These were factory prepped cars that came here for the last US rally. I know a couple mechanics that worked/volunteered for the crew. So those would be even more rare. The rumored existance of the imported GSR. The JDM RX1, I do not know of one in the states. To put things in perspective, in stock form, how many factory hotrods could the RX beat from the same era? The motor wasn't special, it came in alll turbo models. Suspension, maybe a slight bit better. The fulltime 4WD was a slight advantage but also a disadvantage. It combined for more weight and only was a slight advantage in wet or loose conditions. The LSD could be ordered in any vehicle with 4WD/AWD. What were the 1/4 mile times? Slow to say the least. Time it with a stop watch or a sundial? I will say there are not as many as there once was. But that doesn't make it rare. Show me some production numbers to the contrary and I may buy into it. Besides, there really isn't a niche market for a true stock mint one or the last couple to surface would have sold for the inflated prices their owners were asking. So as said earlier, mod it, offroad it, rally it whatever you chose to do with it as long as you are enjoying your it!
  4. If you do not have a vice that opens to at least 6-7" then you will not be able to collapse the tensioner.
  5. To be more precise, the ready made sections. If you bulid your own you will have to match the tubing to the fittings that match your existing tubing.
  6. Good point about travel Eric. Scott, the wider the rim the more abuse it will take. If you lean to the narrow side the tire will take the abuse. We used everything from a 5" Pug to a stock 'yota wheel and everything in between.
  7. Check the prescription man! 1984 GL hatchback 4WD D/R, my first love 1986 RX will be new daily driver 1988 RX, race kaa 1989 Rotary powered RX, race kaa 1989 RX shell, one day will be a race kaa gee, how did a 19 year old end up with three race cars? They are so rare that you have 4 of them. They are not that rare and not that impressive.
  8. There's a dozen junkyards with in a few hours drive. Good luck with it.
  9. The 27's are the way to go. The best place I have found for Swampers is 4 Wheel Parts in Tacoma. If you check them out, talk to Lonnie, tell him Ken sent you. You won't get a better price but you will get taken care of.
  10. BTW, why don't you just do it yourself? I mean, you can take the measurements and take the part to a local welder and have it back on the car within the same day probably. Then just back charge the manufacturer.
  11. It's not the same Matt. You have to supply parts for them to fab your lift components? Hmm, very odd...
  12. Just tell the parts people that it is an '83 Subaru wagon with an 1800 and 2wd.
  13. The sender could be going bad. 6,000 kms is a bit much but not too much. Is the engine making noise? BTW, your first post was before 6am EST. Most people don't get on that early.
  14. Suggested is indeed 60K. However, they usually last much, much longer than that. If you can handle the inconvenience of the breakdown you can wait until it breaks. Usually better to plan for a repair than a break down. These are not interference engines so nothing will happen to the engine if the belt breaks. If you plan to replace the belts before they break you should also consider replacing the waterpump, oil pump seals, cam seals(2) and maybe even the front main seal. These are all under the belt and will probably amount to another $100.00 in parts alone.

    toy diff?

And you would need to do this why? Have you measured a Subaru track vs a Toyota track lately? 58" is the magic number. You'll need a late model rear diff to match the track. Yeah I thought about it a bit. I currently have an Isuzu rear axle in my Brat. Lot's of travel, ARB, rear disc brakes, what more could a Subaru owner want?
  16. The front seal is replaceable. If you have a used one available that will work just the same. But, you may end up in the same boat with that one eventually as well.
  17. Saturday is lookiong a bit tough for me. We are looking at 10-12 hours on Friday night. If it's 10 I'll so up late. If it's a 12 hour day I won't get out until 10:30 am. By the time I get up there and find you it will be noon. I'll let you know Eric. K
  18. See your post in the marketplace. Weld it up and be done!
  19. Those pics were right after the Hatch pulled him out of the hole. He blew up his trans I believe.
  20. Incorrect Brian, sorry. The bars are there for blocking purposes when the seats are not in the truck. That is why when they quit putting them in the backs in 1986 here in the states the bars remained. Their position even changed slightly inboard I believe.
  21. I may have a spare pump laying around, I'll check and let you know.
  22. Here's the link... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8234&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 BTW, Jaws, you live near Browns point? My nephew got married there and I used to go there alot as well.
