  1. It can be competitive. I have won open class before in my Brat. I have also set 2nd fastest session times as well. This is with the EA81( no where near stock though).
  2. It has everything to do with an opinion. Just like the one you have just shown. Next time try to rephrase it in a way that isn't attacking. His point being that the EGR system on a Subaru is/isn't neccessary to have the engine run just fine. There are three variations of the EA82. Of those three one doesn't use a valve and the other two have them depending on original sale location.
  3. Does an ER27 count? I put one on my XT6. Results are inconclusive. But better grounding on a vehicle known for bad grounds can't be all bad.
  4. Kendall Limited Slip oil. The EA81 rear axle for your wagon won't fit your RX.
  5. Now, that makes complete sense. Don't worry Emily, everyone forgets which end their vocal cords are sometimes. (Listen for the phone tomorrow. I have a question for you or Rick or ...) Ken
  6. The EGR does not control, make or cause carbon! The carbon problem is the result of oil burning. Bad rings and valve seals and the lack of oil changes cause your carbon problem. A poorly tuned engine will also contribute to this same problem. I run my engines without EGR's any time I can. Both of my EA series engines are built with larger cams, bigger carbs and altered exhausts. They are used for daily, race, and fun-time. That will dismiss the thought of race applications only not causing issues. I drive my vehicles fast, slow and everywhere in between. Off-road, off-camber and over the top have caused zero issues. I have 10K on my little Brat, about 5K on my big Brat. I have about 5k on my XT6 as well. BTW, let's add some more controversy to this. None of them have catalytic converters either. Just because a guy in a shop claims to be a mechanic does not make him one. I claim to have mechanical experience. I don't claim to be a mechanic. I have worked for dealerships and in retail and private shops including my own. Check around, I seem to build some pretty good rigs.
  7. I have never owned an EA series car that I didn't do a rear disc swap to. Subaru drum brakes suck! The braking is improved. You do not have to adjust the rear brakes any more(I hate manually adjusted brakes). I am the second person to do this particular mod on the USMB. Jerry(BratsRus) was the first. He did alot of research on the matter. I did as well. I am not that trusting(sorry Jerry). M/cyl and proportioning valves do not need to be changed.
  8. Verify that the belts are in the correct position by setting the flywheel/flex plate to the center of three marks. The cams should be up and down in this position. After you have made sure the belts are in the right spot you can go on to the distributor. Remove the #1 plug, place your finger over the hole and rotate the engine untill pressure is felt(compression stroke). Check the timing marks until "0" is seen. Now, check the rotor location, is it pointing to the number 1 wire? If not adjust accordingly. This should start your car. Then let it run for a minute or more to pump up the lifters(HLA's). Good luck!
  9. Hey Jibs, he's a distributor not the maker. Has anyone got theirs yet?
  10. What part of Sumner/Bonney Lake are you in? The direct applications would be 80-84 wagon, sedan and coupes. 81-89 hatchbacks and 82-87 Brats. Many people have swapped in other engines but you are talking major modifications. Just depends on what you want to end up with.

  12. It's a free mag when you by parts from them. I think you can subscribe for free though. http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/index.asp
  13. You can order online with several Subaru dealers. Some will even give an internet discount. https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/ http://www.allsubaru.com/ They will deliver to your door.
  14. 2 votes. LOL J/K(maybe...) Depends on final color choice of car.
  15. I agree. I didn't see any bashing. I noticed that you cited Joe Spits' site who is an employee of Carter Subaru. The program you cite is a valid program. But so is the rest of the information that has been shared. This kind of falls in line with all the employee discount sales that everyone is putting on right now. It is a buyers market right now. State you price and be prepared to walk away. You can find alot of information on the web to be a well prepared consumer. MSRP, invoice, 1st sticker, 2nd sticker or whatever the catch phrase is this month all means the same thing... SALES! Thanks for the info and please, do not take it personal.
  16. I'll be there. I just don't know what class I'm running. Depends on what time I get there. I have to work tonight and don't get off until 6:30 AM.
  17. Greg, try this, http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html Ken

  19. Nope, no drain plug on the EA82's. I am not sure why they would make that change. The EA81's had drain plugs in the tank.
  20. Spotfacing can be seen when the original studs are removed. It struck me as a little odd when you said they didn't know what spotfacing is. Any machinist worth his chips knows this term. You may want to find another shop.
  21. GOOD NEWS!!!!! I have been contacted by one particpant. The West Coast Banner is on it's way home. It is as I hoped, simply an error in judgement. I will not single out this person other to say thanks for stepping up. This restores some of my faith in people and I hope this will motivate the return of the other two banners.
  22. He drove a Legacy wagon. His hatch has a 12" lift. That puts it over 20" off the ground
