The gearing in '82 is unique to '82. The '83-84 wagons have low range available but slightly different gearing. The same for the Brats '83-87 and the Hatches '83-89. The newer EA82 wagons, sedans and coupes have dual range available from '85-89. Easier to find a dual range in those models from '85-87 but they were available in dual range full-time 4wd in '88-89. I may be off a year or two but others will chime in as well.

Here is a question for ya guys....
Qman replied to Tcat55371's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I believe it is a light green or blue box under the dash on the left side kick panel. Once you find it is states wiper relay or intermittent wiper control or something like that on the box. -
I hope as many people that can make it will. If there isn't enough response to their events then they may not have them. I knew of the possibility of a July event but not a June event. I had not planned to do the school this time so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll just need to take Friday night off from work I guess.

Return PM coming your way. -
Can you explain this design flaw to me?

Do these electric fans suck or blow?
Qman replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you want a blow type fan, I suggest that you go after market. There are many brands that offer slimline style fans that mount in the front of the radiator. I do not recommend flipping the Subaru fan. -

Alan, if you want to come out here I can help you with the brakes and disty. Some hands on education maybe. Ken -
GL & GL-10 differences ?
Qman replied to FirstSubaruGLwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You did? Back to the topic. The above linked post will give you most of your answers. I have some brochures for '85, '86 and '87. I'll try to dig 'em out and let you know the differences. I believe I put a post in the other thread with imput from the brochure also. -
Opinions: How does it look? Improved? (pics)

Looks good. Stick with the stickers! :-p Design flaw? Does the tailgate rub on the bumper when you open it? -
Hey Jeremy, Those are the spots. You really only need to do one side for clearance. If you insert the LSD unit you will see where to grind. You may hit the holes without any ill-effects. The bolts will seal it up just fine. As a matter of fact the LSD case enters the holes somewhat also. Good luck.

Thanks Morgan. Very much appreciated!! -
Hatch struts are shorter.

Tsk, tsk... I hope my daughter doesn't read this. I know a few other "girls" that would take exception to such a comment as well.

Wheel spacers and stud patterns
Qman replied to Matty B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Depending on the wheels and tires you are running it can add stresses to the bearings. When I did the solid rear axle swap into my BRAT I had to add 2 1/2" per side to match the Subaru track. I didn't have any issues but, I just didn't like running them. Many people are using them to correct tracking issues. Just my preference. -
Wheel spacers and stud patterns

4X140mm I have run spacers on my offroad Brat. They work but I still don't really like them. -
KYB's are offered for the RX. The original sring rates were slightly higher than the average GL. Body roll isn't controlled so much with the shock/struts as a larger sway bar. I believe the RX had either an 18 or 19mm bar. The XT6 has a 20mm rear bar. That with new bushings will reduce some of the roll.

ROFLMAO!!!

Update: The XT6 is MINE! ALL MINE!
Qman replied to SuBrat84's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My guess is the ignitor. It is located on the coil bracket. It controls fuel pump functions as well. If the belts look OK that is the next step. -
easy cluth job, for the ultimate sube repair manual
Qman replied to WRX1AB's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The USRM(Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual) is located in the header at the top of the page. -
The check engine light lets you know a code has been stored. The 32 is saying that the ECU has recorded an out of spec reading(I think). Basically, you need to replace the O2 sensor or clean the connections of any signs of corrosion.

Returned to topic. Brian still does motors(on the side). I suggest you go talk with him. Or if you'd prefer I can do it for you. You'd end up with a new in spec rebuilt motor. Let me know what you want to do.
