REVISED thread - Never seen this before!
Qman replied to ckappler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds more brake related. Is it only after driving at speed and then slowing, right? Do you use the brakes to slow down with or just coast? -
First and formost, selling is done in the market place ONLY! Second, these appear to be pretty big claims. Let me see if I understand this correctly. You built your own kit. Put 10K miles on it and didn't find the flaws until you compared it to a BYB/Ozified kit? 15 degrees of increased stress put on the rear axles. That's alot for those of you who don't realize it. Pictures will provide a bit of proof to your claims. Thanks and please keep all further sales pitches to the market place.

(prizeless) Contest: Guess the Problem

I said I was done picking on Rob...not anyone else!! -
'84 doesn't guarantee hydraulic. '83/'84 with autos are hydraulic and anything from '85 on.

(prizeless) Contest: Guess the Problem
Qman replied to NorthWet's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, Rob is a killjoy, :-p But, is it the headgasket? OK, I'm done picking on Rob for tonight. The only possibility that someone hasn't stated is a bad carb baseplate gasket. Is that it? -
Also find out if he used thread sealant on the flywheel bolts. Without it oil can seep through the threads and get on the flywheel side of the clutch disc. The threaded holes go completely through the crank and are exposed to the oil from the crankcase. There is also another possiblity. When turning the flywheel there are two specs for the 1800 for flywheel depth. OHC and OHV have two different specs and the difference will enable the new clutch to slip and to not be adjustable.

That might have to do with the fact that it was made in the 80's! Good power, pretty user friendly controls, many wheel options unlike other 80's Subaru's, already has alot of the good parts like 20mm sway bars and 4 wheel disc brakes. There is room for performance improvements but most find them fine as is. The only real inherent problems with these are the steering system and the air suspension.

TPS Questions for my RX
Qman replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hesitations on turbo cars can be directly related to timing, vacuum leaks and carbon build up in the hoses. A good tune with quality parts will help. You'll need to play with the timing a bit too. Also, go through ALL the black hoses on the engine. Look for hard, brittle and cracked ones. Replace as neccessary, most if not all are available through the dealer. You will have to pay a little to eliminate this problem. I'd also look into a new PCV valve(OEM).Do not "tweek" the TPS. Especially, if you do not have the right equipment. Clean the contacts if you must but adjustment of this is not neccessary. -
retrofitting a rear tailgate switch
Qman replied to thealleyboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It is not a release or opener switch if you are refering to the stock switch. Just unlocks the hatch. The operation was tied into the central door locks. -
That would depend on how much of the salt air has gotten into the undercarraige. $500 for a good running, clean XT is probably a good deal.

Hey Whippet, we all have been wondering where you ran off to. Contact Shawn or maybe even Mick can fix it. Have your old post count added to the new boards post count. That should take care of your problems. -

Read through the link I added to previous post. It may have to do with low post count as well. -

It has been moved to the marketplace. Unfortunately, the posting rules have been modified by the administers and brand new members can't access that section. This thread in site help will provide more details. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32045
