  1. I have one for a hatchback. I had it in mine before it retired. It was built by Drivelines NW. Fully servicable u-joints and completely balanced. All you need is to make a center mount for the carrier bearing. Contact me if interested @ Qman4x4@direcway.com
  2. I agree, for the most part. But paying fair market value for something is just that, Fair. Most of the time you find ones like that in the junkyard is because some mechanic treid to bend them over and they just decided that they could get a new car with less headaches. Very few of the big offroaders are ever going to give respect for anything but what they are driving so don't wait for that. But I will stand by my original post and say that if the Hatch he is looking for is in good shape it is worth paying for. Escpecially considering his area. Salt sucks!!
  3. That's weird, the only thing that is related to the engine install would be the HH. Did you check to make sure that nothing is pinched between crossmembers or the block or motor mounts or anything like that? I suppose it could be purely coincidental and the caliper just froze.
  4. And something else to consider is this. If all Subaru's could be had for free or pennies on the dollar what would yours be worth?
  5. Not really, you'll notice, or not, that I said most not all. And I am willing to bet that all/most had to be repair to some extent to make them road worthy.
  6. My guess is that it is a Carter/Weber and the base bolts are/have loosened up. If this is true, you have to remove it and tighten them from the bottom.
  7. Looks like the only fit single headlight models. Large squarish replacement lights.
  8. This model doesn't have timing belts. The light does come on at 60,000 mile intervals to have the EGR valve serviced. He's asking $850.00. If it needs the additional work to pass DEQ and the blue book value is $830. Then you should present that to him as such and offer him $730.00. The only problem with that is he may decline your offer. A Subaru of that age that isn't rusted all over is a rare find in Maryland. I would crawl under it and verify the wheel well rust hasn't migrated into the frame rails or any of the undercarraige for that matter. Don't let the stories of free and next to nothing Subes steer you away from this one. Very few of those freebies are worth more than parts. Good luck!
  9. Your hill holder cable is adjusted too tight. Loosen that cable and your brakes will return to normal after you bleed the RF.
  10. My guess would be that adjustment is attained by adding small shims. By using tapered shims you could feasibly make small adjustments to both toe and camber. Probably not enough to get the negative camber that Will is after though.
  11. That's a possibility as well. We will definitely need to do something about the air intake before you hit the hobbit trail and roller coaster.
  12. It's actually called "Brians" and Steve owns it. Steve and Brian are still there. Drop in and say hi. The number is 206.242.0835
  13. '93 Impreza with 266,000 and counting. The 1.8 purrs like new. Time for timing belts and tune up(wires, plugs and filters)
  14. Well, it's official. Jared will be back in Washington the middle of February. I told him I would get everyone together the second weekend of his return. The first weekend is reserved for his family. February 26th(saturday) either Reiter pit or Evans Creek. I'll let Jared make the call on which. Depends on weather forecast. Evans is probably doable considering the lack of snow. We'll do an all access get together for all. Then, we need to get him in the deep woods to clear the sand from his veins. If we do Reiter then we can meet in the power lines and hang out for a while then do the wall or something. If we do Evans we can meet in the campground and hang out for a while then head into the woods from there. I'll check Evans out this week or weekend to make sure of conditions. Plan on a 10:00am meeting and then a couple of hours to hang out and then a trail run. Probably gonna be more than a stock rig can handle. If we do the wall you'll need at least 3-4" lift and a welded rear diff. If we do Evans the same will be needed as well. Most of the trails have deteriorated quite a bit. Big ruts and alot of off-camber stuff will await you. More details to follow soon.
  15. NO! The driveline is one piece in the Brat. If you remove it and try to drive you will lose fluid out the rear. If the joints are failing you will notice one will be hard to rotate or will not rotate at all. To check for slop you should check them in the car by placing sideways pressure at the joint and looking for movement. Axles are harder to tell though.

    snorkle idea....

This is how I did mine. A little crude but extremely functional. Done with PVC pipe and rubber hose in the engine bay and inside fender well.
  17. The best stuff I have ever used is Redline synthetic fuel system cleaner. I used it on an old Chev truck I had. The secondaries were gummed up and not functioning. It cleaned everything right up and never had to do a rebuild on it. I have used it religiously ever since, about 10 years! And recommend it to all who ask.
  18. Caleb :-p Never had an issue before. They must have caught on! Thanks, Caleb. I noticed this morning and went to fix it and found yours/mine had been uploaded.
  19. I'm sure this isn't really what you had in mind but I love showing it off. A member's(King Will) wife drew this for me.
  20. They really do work well in the snow, ice and rain that comes with winter. The Ultra Grips are a good "snow tire" but they suck on normal bare and wet roads.
  21. I talked to him this morning. He has been swamped. I will pass the word along though.

    snorkle idea....

Too many bends to be efficient. Besides, if you think you need a snorkle the grill is the last place you want it! Besides that even, the cops would love you for all the obstructed view tickets they would get to write. Take it out the fender like everyone else.
  23. Most of the chains are conditioned to sell units rather than repair them. Not really their fault though. A lot of them have been burned repairing them and having them go out shortly thereafter. Replacing the boot will not solve the problem though. All the bellows is is a dust cover/protector. If it is leaking then you have seal problems. I do not know if you can service them without Subaru dealer tools though. Go see Steve at Steve's Pacific Import Repair. His number is 253.536.0389. He is open Tuesday through Saturday. He does Subaru specifically and should be close to you. Tell him Ken sent you and he will take care of you.
  24. The best all round tire I have used is the TOYO Ultra 800 Touring Radial that Les Schwab sells. This tire is GREAT in the rain and very decent in the dry. A little spendy but not horrible. They don't really hydroplane either. We have some pretty heavy rains and these don't pull or drift in puddles or grooves in the road. We have them on my Wife's Legacy and my son's Impreza. They are available in 185/70R13 and 175/70R13 depending on your model. Good luck.
