Well, I hit Evans Creek today. I am happy with the way the Brat is set up. It handled the very eroded terrain OK. Definately needs to be locked up in the rear. Had to right a rolled full sized Chev and get the same straightened out on the trail. The winch sure worked well. Met some very cool folks that are associated with S.N.O.R.T. They were very impressed with the new look Brat. The gearing is perfect. Can't wait to be lincolned or better. I'll post some pics later, -
It is!!

Wasn't the mid 70's car based on the GSR model?

Nice job Bob. I too look forward to seeing it in person. Is it gonna be ready for this years show? If not, we'll see it sometime soon. Ken

From Japanese Oddities to Objects of Desire

Cool article but not totally accurate. According the Ed Parsil, he was misquoted on several instances. I believe the writer embelished and dramatized alot. -

All a matter of opinion and perception. No solid for me yet. I have a sneeking suspicion that we will see somone do this before long. It still possess' a Subaru motor and tranny and the body is still intact for the most part. Besides Fujui is Fuji no matter what it's on. You be amazed how many of the stock parts on you Sube carry mitsu and other manufacturing icons on them. The bottom line is I'll get farther while abusing my rig very little. -
How unsafe is it for a Brat to tow another Brat?
Qman replied to lepetitprince's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
First, by the title I can tell he thinks it might be unsafe. Secondly, it's notalways what is said but how it is said. Dan, for short distances it works but for longer distances it will be rough on the equipment and can be dangerous to you and other drivers. I once towed a Gen1 Brat with my Hatch. Flat tow with a tow bar. The weight was about the same but the Brat being longer was a scary ride. I hit a corner at about 20mph and almost didn't recover. It shoved the rear end out so fast and far that it was tough to bring it back in line. Be very careful with whatever you decide. I, personally, would flat tow anything that far. Ken -
Your bike should fit OK. You may need to leave the tailgate down though.

The wheels on the "little" Brat are Sen Dels. The company still exists but these wheels were made in the 70's or early '80's. I have not seen another set like them. They are 14's BTW. The wheels on the "BIG" Brat are Les Schwab(Ultra) steels. They have the standard rear wheel drive offset. And as requested there are more "Daylight" pics in my gallery. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=561 -
got some Q's hoping for some A's
Qman replied to freeldr's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Q#2: Actually, these are set up with mileage counters that are electronically controlled. Under the dash you'll find two blue connectors and a black connector. Which ever set is hooked up, unhook it and reconnect it to the other connector. -

problem getting wcss6 posters and kinkos
Qman replied to subaru_styles's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
In your defense, there were two posts regarding this. The first original and a second that covered the problems and such. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18407&highlight=poster Either way. Send me the info and I'll get it forwarded it to you. We appreciate any additional coverage we can get. Ken -
First, you can not "adjust" the timing on a 2.2l. Second, I would use a fuel system cleaner designed for FI. The best I have found is REDLINE fuel system cleaner. It is not a petroleum based product, completely synthetic, and does a greta job. Has anyone pulled the codes yet? That's where it should start. Pull codes then fix those issues. It could be something as simple as an O2 sensor giving a bad reading. Or the beginnings of a cat that is starting to plug. BTW, I am moving this to the new gen forum for better coverage.

Do you need the stock driveline length? Are you putting a 5sp in ther at any point? I have a custom driveline for a hatch with 5sp conversion. But I do not have any stock hatch drivelines anymore.

Help me empty an EA81 fuel tank
Qman replied to Hocrest's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Take the bolt out. Use cheesecloth to filter the dirt that may be in the tank or around that may fall into things. Safer than using a pump. Just need a gas can close to the amount of gas left in tank. Then get a large funnel. I have one that has about a 12" diameter but the nozzle end fits into the gas can. -
It is indeed alot of work and expensive. One was built a few years ago by a guy in Colorado. I remember it took 3 or 4 trannys to make one. I also believe they had to do some special machining. Using a turbo FT4WD trans in low is not the same. They do not have the same displacement and will be a dog. I have seen 3.70 finals used in off-roading. Let's just say that by the time they got back home they were already installing a 3.90 trans. So, to answer your question. Difficult at best. Expensive?..probably. Worth it?...hard to say. My suggestion would be to install a trans from an non turbo car from '85 to '88. I believe they started playing with the gear ratios after those years. Not for the better either.

Where can I mount REAL tow hooks?
Qman replied to MorganM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sounds like custom bumper time. I have the standard tow hooks bolted to the front bumper. I also have a slide in receiver the has a turn buckle attached to it that fits front or rear. -

Well, technically it is your fault. The directions in the original thread told you to contact me and I would have the file sent to the store of your choice. They do not archive to a national database. It is archived locally and they will email the folder to the store near you. I need the address and store number and see if you can get an "attention of" person. Then I can have my local store send it off. After they have the file it is a piece of cake. -
The rock guards you speak of are also the backing plates/caliper mounts. You'd have to seperate them for sure. For street use you'd probably get away with it but off road they would come into contact with all sorts of stuff.

Not quite yet but he will be within the next two days. His evenings will be available and he wants to know if anyone is around Lincoln. If so post here with contact info and I'll forward it to him. Or you can email me with the same if you don't wish to publish it to the world. Qman4x4@comcast.net
