  1. Try doing a search for EA81 cams. Here's what I found. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=24018
  2. A search for ea71 pistons into ea81 put up these posts. You could refine the search some. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php?searchid=23977
  3. As Mick stated those are your options in the states. Side note, stay on topic this time guys.
  4. I replaced a motor once after the headgasket went bad. The exhaust was full of coolant and smoked for quite a while. I'd run it for 5 minutes and shut it down then come back in an hour or so and do it again. Finally I noticed the smoke was starting to diminish and let it run for about 30 minutes and the smoke stopped and the motor ran for about 6 years so far without incident.
  5. ...and my Brat will be on it. Chances are anything you break can be fixed there anyway.
  6. That was Wayne. I talked with him for a while in the afternoon. What a spectacular day. Most, if not all, the participants got tanned or burned. Hot and sunny conditions for the whole day. The roll over was fast and rather brutal. It appears that the Ranger got out of shape coming into a rather sharp 180 degree turn and caught a rut. Unfortunately, he didn't roll slowly. He went straight from rubber side down to impact on the passenger side upper A-pillar. Then back to rubber side down. The truck is a total at this point. Mike, the water truck driver, laid down about four truck loads of water to soften the track. The following runs resulted in plus 3 minute times and very, very, sloppy conditions. I was 4th car out after the water truck and must say that I have been on mud runs in the big Brat that had less mud. The track did dry out quickly though. Second and third runs were in the mid to low 2's and the final runs were in the mid 1's. Quite a difference in conditions. I'm not sure if I want to be present for Rich, the safety stewards, next pre-event speech.
  7. I have used them for EA81's. I believe the two cams are basically a small torque cam and a hotter horsepower cam. There were different profiles for spfi, mpfi, turbo and carb. Very minor differences though. I know of a couple guys who have used known spfi cams in a carbed motor with good results. I have had very pleasant experiences with Delta. They even stepped up as a small sponsor of our West Coast Subaru Show. If any of you do call them tell them you heard about them from me( Ken, the guy with the Brats and the coordinator of the Subaru show) and it may not get you a better deal but it will let them know we are letting people know about them and that we appreciate there work. It may sound wrong but unless you have tried it don't be too harsh. I thought that until I put one in an EA81. Trust me when I say it makes a night and day difference. Let's just say there are a few less Honda boys in my area looking to race the old Brat. Thanks!!
  8. I think it is a good idea. We have always played second fiddle to all other imports as far as magazines have gone in the past. Reader rides would be a great addition as well as tech pages that include ALL generations of Subaru's. Very cool idea for sure.
  9. For the key, just pull the passenger side door lock out. Take it to a locksmith and they can get the code from the cylinder and cut the correct key.
  10. You are supposed to use a compressor to get the higher settings. If you were able to move them and they didn't hold they may have expanded. The only fix I know of for that is to use hose clamps to hold the adjustment sleeve in place.
  11. It's not a special punch. It is a standard 3/16" punch. You can look for the equivalent size in metric as well. There are special pin punches that have a relief at the end as well. You should use the right tool for this job though. It will save hours of anguish if you bugger the pin trying to use something else.
  12. Scott is right on the ball. I have gone the route of building a few as well and without the right equipment the expense is huge. If you are not into already or considering getting into fab work the cost will never equal out. Not to mention the fact that if you do not have welding experience you run the risk of injuring yourself or others. I am not saying you can not do it but you have already stated the need to keep costs down. This isn't a project to cut corners on. There are many stories of lifts gone bad on this board alone. Suspension lifts on these can and have been done. Scott's is about the only one that runs pure independent suspension and has lift and travel. He has done exhaustive research and trial and error. Which all lead to expense. I know what I have into my Brat to date and I am sure Scott has close to double. Read this as expensive little projects. I recommend that you try to save some coin and work up to the lift and tires slowly. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  13. That's unfortunate, I hope all involved are OK though. Did the air bags go off before or after the collision?
  14. Man, that looks like a blast. Unfortunately mine isn't completely finished yet and I have family commitments on Saturday and a rally on Sunday in Oregon. Maybe next time.
  15. I made an adapter plug for my swaps. I'll get the color codes for you in the next day or two if you don't get it before then.
  16. It is possible that your current cruise control will work. I would recommend that you go see Brians Subaru in Burien before you totally give up. Their number is 206.242.0835. Tell 'em Ken sent you.
  17. Glad you finally made it Bob. I'm Ken(Qman), I have the big sliver Brat from the last show. Tom told me you were going forward on this project after we talked about it at the show. Sounds like fun(and alot of work). Keep up to speed on this years show in the post WCSS6, and let us know your progress. Ken
  18. I'm sure he'll have one or both of his cars at the show.
  19. Very nice. Once again you did a beautiful job. The adapter is very straight forward. Did you have to space out the flywheel the same amount? Very cool,
  20. Kurt, the next rallyx is on the 27th of June.
