  1. Hi guys. It's been ages since I've posted or been in touch. I've moved twice.. been in a house now since last fall. Finally have a garage set up again- and everything out of storage etc. Zap - Sorry if I was a pretty bad flake before disappearing. Looks like I've got 2 helicoil kits that are yours. One that I had used for stripped head bolts ages ago- and one for exhaust studs. Shoot me an address and I can ship them to you- or we can work something out. Mike W- Still have a weber that belongs to you- Think I had brought it along to the last WCSS I was at (2-3 years ago?) and failed to see you. PM me and we can sort something out.. Finally working on a soob again.. hatchback I picked up from Jerry (hi Jerry). Started work on it last year (!)on the side of a rental house in Prosser.. was interrupted by buying a house, things that are supposedly more important- "real life" stuff.. back in the swing now that I've spent some time setting up a shop though. Feels good. Think I forgot how much I enjoyed these machines.
  2. FWIW Check the Mopar truck section- I found an old Plymouth truck w/ 14" "wagon" style 14" 6 lugs a little while ago. Last I saw only 1 was left-
  3. Which shucks was this (I am in the N end/northgate area)
  4. I looked over the SJR kit at the show and it really does look great and seems like a good design- Just make sure you have good steel on you rear torsion tube assembly as the design currently does require some cut and paste welding rather than blocks-- not a problem for most of us but if you're driving a car sponsored by Mr. Salty I would look that area over real careful for rust (Alaskans take note) Then again, if the car has enough rust that that would be an issue any other kits probably a bad idea I would think.
  5. Awesome. Slowly but surely meeting most of you all. Big thanks to Ken, Eric--and all the sponsors!
  6. Hey former neighbor! <I still have your weber Mike- I could bring it down to the show if you going> Sounds like caps are different, no modding if stock springs are used, at least thats the way Im reading things here...
  7. I have reviewed as much old thread material as I can handle. I am looking to fit outback struts into my 91 legacy, and am concerned about fitment of the rears as someone has given me the impression there may be trouble with the way the strut caps fit in- is there anything I should be concerned about here?
  8. Did you bite the bullet and drill/gromet through the roof or are you gonna pinch your wires in the window?
  9. Hang in there. Sounds like you may be at a point where you just need to loosen it all up and retace your steps, making sure you are supporting/jacking what needs to be. If you screwed up a bolt, bring it in to a specialty fastener shop so they can replace it for you. If that doesn't work there are other options (tapping hole to next larger- 1/2" fine thread might work, or drill all the way through nut and floor and use hardened threaded rod w/ bearing plate) Good luck
  10. I will measure out the clearance next time I'm under it. I just (last 2 days) lowered it 1" to alleviate the axles some strain. Aside from the coilover shocks adjusted all the way down the torsion bar is clocked 2 teeth down. I will be starting with shortening the shocks to relieve the tires/camber, and failing this will be reclocking the torsion bar. The car rides like a unit of lumber. Got a lot done over past couple days. I removed the steering extension I had welded, and installed some 5/32 split pins in it for more security. Mounted the skid plate back after welding a spacer on to it, and swapped the 3" blocks I had for the tranny to 2" to correct the output angle to driveline (holy crap the shorter bolts I picked up ran like $50!). Now I will have to further "customize" the interior as now 1st and 3rd have the lower cubby of the center console in the way. There is a lot left in the interior to be done. The was a 2wd conversion, so the is still a big hole where the linkage comes out of the floor awaiting covering up. I'd love to put new carpet in it, but after taking in 8" of muddy water in the last lift I had I think it might be a waste. Powerplant is stock EA81 until I get through EPA, at which point it'll be weber or SPFI depending on whats available.
  11. Hooo boy. Please, I don't want anyone to worry about what stickers go where, and I am not into alienating folks, so... Heston sticker yes, killing things prolly not. But I do reserve the right to put whatever stickers on my junkie soobs I want. And understand that I will be alone at the red light with a car load of red eyed kids next to me giving me the stinkeye. I wouldnt expect them to understand I still use up my sunday nights grillin and listening to the dead hour. As far as the clearance, subject to change. Tire wear would be unacceptable as is. Rock on Garth.
  12. OK OK OK Happy board-day Mr Zap. Your not a bad guy (for an atheist) Love, Your neighbors
  13. There's a zip strip on my driveway queen. I figured I could just keep a pack in the car for other quick fixes anyway. Snip w/ the dykes and its off......
  14. hello. Was wondering what sort of effort replacing a 2.5L in and outback w/a 2.2 would be... Will it mate w/ the tranny allright? Would I need to swap the entire harness? Looking at a 96 outback. EJ22 would be from a 91-93 legacy. Thanks
  15. Austin- I have a FSM for I think 90 loyale series give me a call if you want to borrow etc good luck
  16. I used an EA81 cut and spliced, then welded. Being an FNG with a welder I was considering also drilling and driving in a split pin. Just an added failsafe. Anyone else consider this?
  17. *pats self on back* well I think I fixed mine up (82 brat using lg clutch) The TO had been bad sooo long it had welded up- If I only had a camera that worked.. pathetic looking really. BUT- this worked out in that the inner race was froze on the carrier- I ground down the ridges on it, and oila! Custom spacer for the larger bearing that came in the clutch kit. Still plenty to do before I button it up and fire it up, will let yall know.
  18. *sniffle* Thanks Mick. A fate far better than rusting in some tow yard. Glad I had Tim to call, and that you did it such justice! rock on~
  19. They probably justify the $1 charge as making up for the amount of crud that does walk out in pockets, and probably helps pay for their insurance/lightbill on the slow days (winter) Speaking of getting dinged, I bought a 4spd d/r tranny at lynnwood- after struggling to get it out by close on a workday, they charged me for both the trans and a transfer case- $25+ I had not expected to pay. That really ticked me off but after the work I had done I wasn't about to drop it.
  20. Ross, I was actually trying to install a 5spd 4wd ea82 set with the 82 brat 4spd. The TOB is narrow enough it wouldn't even make contact w/ the fingers of the pressure plate. Well, hope the rest goes well for you Flow. I'll still be hitting hte bearing shop this weekend to see what I can see (although if Scott went through this w/ his brat I would think he would have found a bearing w/ same ID/working OD to use if it were available, aprticularly if he went through the trouble of having a bushing made)
  21. Where you at w/ this Flow? On Archies suggestion I ordered up a Nissan TO bearing from partsbin w/ a bunch of other stuff (Schucks was out and Action closed when I made the buy) It looks like it could be a heavier bearing than the EA82 5spd 4wd has but the I.D unfortunately matches it, not the smaller 81-82 4wd TOB. I guess this weekend I'll hit the bearing shop in S Seattle where its all in one house and find a solution.
