  1. Thanks for your post....I did not win the auction, however this is the car I want,, will be looking for one.. Thanks
  2. Folks, Need advise. My 01 legacy throws this code. What should I do. Does it need to be fixed. What are dangers if not fixed. Thanks for your suggestions.
  3. I have 01 legacy with about 100,000 miles; auto. I have also had the dreaded code. I too changed everything, plugs, wires, etc, etc. What fixed it for me was front and rear o2 sensor. Very frustrating issue.
  4. Problem fixed when I replaced the front and rear O2 sensor. Thanks everyone. Goes to show the forum works.
  5. Nipper, Do phase II engines blow the HG. I have been told that the Phase II engine rarely blows a HG after it has been replaced? I think that means its a HG issue. ??
  6. You are right it was a warranty repair. On the other hand Zerex looks like an alternative which is close to Subaru.
  7. You guys know a lot more about this stuff than I probably do. However I will tell you what I was told by our local subaru mechanic. He claims that on the phase I and II 2.5 engines, that only Subaru coolant and Subaru coolant conditioner be used. The reason is that as you all know those engines and the head gaskets were prone to failure. The new coolant and coolant conditioner were developed to help with the problem. Even after the mechanic changed the Head Gaskets on my 01 legacy, he refused to put in anything except the subaru stuff. Just my two cents...
  8. Nipper It has about 110 Miles. Belts changed at 100k, about 10 months ago. Its an Auto. OEM wires; infact everything is oem. I must admit, I am not sure if the Stealership changed Plugs, I will check it out. I don't want to take it back to the Stealer. I did have 301 and 302 code last week. It went away on its own. Nipper, Thanks for answering my post.
  9. Been having a few problems. The car has been hesitating, almost stalling, then surges. Really sluggish. I have changed wires, plugs, air filter, oil filter, fuel filter. Don't know what to do or check next. Appreciate all help.
  10. I have the same problem on my 01 legacy. I put a "recycled" alternator in 18 months ago. I guess the I got what I paid for. Please let me know if it is the alternator. thx
  11. The transmission, as far as I know, has never been removed. I suspect that the fluid has never been checked or changed. The stick is in VERY firmly. I have tried and tried ( every day ), it will not budge. The dealer is saying that they may have to cut the neck of the tube, to free up the stick. Then, they would add a rubber portion with clamps. I'm not sure there is any other way. This is the Tranny dip stick, on the driver side. The front differential stick on the passenger side is also stuck. I guess the previous owners did not check the fluids.
  12. Thank you your suggestion. I will try it tonight. I have been giving the dipstick a daily tug, twist, and friendly motivation ;; without any success so far. I will let you know how I make out. Thanks
  13. Thanks for your advise. Well I'll go pull and twist some more. So,, is there where I would re-fill the tranny at a fluid change? Is there another spot to fill tranny with ATF? Thanks
  14. Can't get it out. Tried wd-40, don't know what to do next, help.. Probably never been checked. car has 147,000 km Thanks
  15. This is a timely thread. I have a 01 legacy. I intend to change the fluid this week. I called the dealer this morning, says no need to change the filter. Only change if it has visible damage or rust. What are your thoughts on synthetic fluid? Tranny oil cooler; I intend to install one. Any idea which line is the return line from the rad. I intend to put it in series with rad, after the rad. Your thoughts? Any pitfalls I should be aware of. I intend to change the fluid in the driveway. Pull off the drain plug. and refill it. Hard to access the dip stick. Is there any other way to refill the tranny. Your thoughts are allways appreciated. Thanks
  16. My inner head gasket failed. I had no external coolant leak; coolant leaked into the cylinder. So I took it to the dealer; thank god they replaced both the inner and outer head gaskets under warranty. I have 140,000 km on it. I know the phase II engines do not have a history of inner head gasket failure. My questions: 1. Are the replacement gaskets ( both inner and outer gaskets ) a different ( better ) version of the original gasket? 2. Should the new gaskets last longer than the originals? 3. Do the techs have to remove the A/C refregant and recharge the system inorder to change the head gaskets? ( My A/C is not as cool since the work was completed). 4. I am worried about future HG failures. Should I be? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  17. The compressor runs very quietly; and no vibration... the area where the dust is coming from is not hot either.
  18. I have an 01 legacy Gt Ltd. Recently I have noticed an orange dust emanating from the front of the compressor. I am new owner; and thus not sure if this is normal. Any advise? Thanks
