WHOAH! So i picked up the ol' OB XT this weekend, and MAN does that thing pull... i brought her home, and introduced her to the OBS.. they seem to get along pretty well, so far. Although, it was very sad when i stabilized the fuel, and put the impreza in the barn for the winter :-\ but yeah, pics of the meeting! So yeah, i go to get it registered, and i find out i can't swap the plates from the impreza, because it's registered under my dad's name.. so no biggie, i just get some ### plates.. then i roll over to get it inspected, and it doesn't pass NH inspection because the tint is too dark!! So ... pissed off i roll on back home, get out some razer blades, and a hair dryer, and get all of the tinting off (it was professionally done.. that stuff it hard to get off!!) and then it passed inspection... eesh! but now we're back up in podam, the XT and myself... a few problems/questions: the cruise control will randomly turn off... i don't use it much, but i'd like it to work when i do right about... after an hour or so of being on it'll just unset itself... then i set it again.. and it'll do it again a few times, till i get fed up with it.... it only seems to happen when the turbo kicks in... and when it does, after being run for a long period of time (~2 hours) it seems to kick in sort of hard.... i don't know much about the 2.5T... but shouldn't it be a sort of smooth introduction of the boost... but overall, this thing rocks!

i'm not actually going to go towing it around.. i was just wondering.. because it sort of makes sense... but yeah, i suppose the FWD fuse would be a good precaution too. i thought the major problem w/ towing the AWD cars is that the clutchpack is locked up when the car is off. so if you turn it on, and put it in FWD (w/ the fuse) and throw it in neutral.. theoretically that clutch pack should be fully disengaged, and the ATF pump will be sending fluid through the tranny, for cooling & lubrication. What else would you fry....? Open diff's don't care if you tow them..

So i got to thinking earlier (yeah.. scary.. i know..) everyone gets all scared about towing vehicles with AWD... and well, as we all know, the 4eat when the duty C solenoid has no voltage/signal, it locks up the clutch pack... and when you turn off your car.. there's no voltage. SO.. what if you turned on the car, so you have the TCU running, and you dump the car into neutral? That shouldn't lock up the clutch pack.. and i'm guessing wouldn't mess up the tranny like so many people talk about.... yeah.. the car would have to be running... but it could work maybe i'm not planning on towing mine anywhere, just wondering.

So i just got off the phone, i guess Erin's legacy is having some issues... it's a 96 Legacy, 2.2L 4eat, about 120k on it i think, she was on the highway, passing someone cranking her up to about 4k rpms, and "then it just shot up to redline" so then she pulls over, and checks the fluid (the ATF that is) and says it looks fine. Any ideas... she said it's actually a little over the marker, so perhaps there's too much fluid in there, making things all nice & frothy... then slipping? she said it did it again when she tried to accelerate after slowing down again... hmm... almost sounds like it's confused about shifting maybe? suggestions? ideas?

oops, i didn't read it fully .. =x but yeah.. good time to replace those struts w/ it on it's side there....

The solenoid is controled by a a Pulse width modulation signal. but yes, if you get rid of that signal (cut the wire, put a stich in it, etc..) it will throw the car into "4wd" mode, or pretty much torque bind. So yeah, the failure mode is locked up. If you wanted to make a varying control on the diff (change your front/back split) you would have to have some 555 timers, to create your signal, and then a pulse width modification system to alter how much the solenoid plays... make sense? more info in putting a switch in there: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50264

i thought the 05 OB XT had 250hp/250ftlbs ? eh.. either way.. it's quick! When i pick it up, and stop at home on the way back to school, i'll see if the forester rims fit... i don't think there will be any problems... it's just that 17" tires are SUPER expensive... especially snow tires.. so i'll just get some for the 16" forester wheels i have i think i remember reading somewhere what the 16" wheels will fit. i guess we'll find out! vrrmmm vrmmM!!!

So... i bought an 05 OB XT Limited yesterday.... i'm picking it up next saturday... i'm psyched!! The impreza just keeps falling apart... something about a few bad wheel bearings, the tranny being messed up, and some squeeling pully bearings in the motor...just pushed me over the edge... So it's going to sit in the barn for a year or so until i have a chance to fix all of the broken stuff... but while it's there i'll be cruising around in my new ride yeah i know i could have spent my money on just fixing the impreza again.. but.. screw it.... this new guy is HOTT!!! Black ext, Off Black int... 5spd, you know, all the goodies And what everyone wants, pictures!! as Austin put it: "woot!" i can't wait till next saturday
