Zap, your OBS came with that size tire? mine came with 215/60/R15's... and that's what tire rack tells me (it's about 24-25" or something) but yeah i hear yah on the tire pressures, and tread pattern... on my 16" rims, which have some touring tires on them, at 35-40psi i get much better milage than my snows... and the touring tires are larger than the snows, with nasty tread on them. but whatever... if you're worried about gas milage, a set of offroad tires might not be the way to go Although, if you get a larger touring tire, you can cruise at a slightly higher speed, with a little less rpmage... just food for thought... mm... food...

So i'm thinking about buying an 05 OB XT Limited. I want to know how long the engine will last.. i know they're not bullet proof like the good ol' 2.2L, but how long should i expect the motor & tubro to last? like.. 75k? 100k? anyone know? I found one that i like with 18k on it... and it's sooo shiney... and shiney things make me want to buy them but yeah... does anyone live in Boulder CO, and want to look at a car for me? and.. does anyone here have one of these XT's? have any major problems? any info would be awesome and yes.. my impreza is getting very old... and i need to take the tranny out and fix the AWD... and some wheel bearings :-\

The audio & heat control is one unit in the newer subarus... so you may have issues adding in another input... and for the racks... i'd see how snug the cross bars are on the subaru setup.. if they're sort of wussy.. then upgrade.. I'm thinking about getting an 05 OB XT also... going through the same thought process

i suppose the 1st step would be to replace the solenoid, and if that doesn't fix it... well.. i know how to open it back up again, right? So time wise... i'm guessing i should actually bring her down to the shop, and get it up high.. opposed to ripping it open in the parking lot... correct? one of those jobs? :-\ oh yeah.. so when i troggle the 4wd/awd, although there is no binding, on restart i still get the AT OIL Temp light... so the TCU knows that something is up when you play with the wire.. so yes.. the clutch pack is slipping... hmmm... i'll have to test out the solenoid again, and make sure i'm getting a proper resistance off of it.

Alright... so i'm really thinking it's the solenoid.. soooo.... what's involved with changing that? Price.. time... mess? is there any sort of quick fix? i mean.. i can always throw in the FWD fuse... but i've got to drive a few hundred miles this coming weekend.. (like 600)... anything i should do? i'm getting the tires on my 16" rims changed.... so they'll all be withing subaru spec... i just don't like driving around in fwd... but i suppose if the solenoid is always screwed.... why not just keep it on it's way out?

Either that or the solenoid C is not having fun... So the story, i had a really bald tire on the front pass side for a while, so no big deal, i get rid of those tires, and throw on my snows till i can fix the problem. but the problem still occurs, the vehicle is acting like it's FWD... but there's no FWD fuse in... So like a good detective, i bust out the volt meter and start playing with the switch assy. When i checked the ohmage across the solenoid C it came up as something drastically not 13 ohms.. then i played around with the switch, and got straight down to the wires, with the circut open (this should be 4wd mode) there is no binding on full lock on pavement... and no difference when the cicuit is closed.. So then i find a dirt road, stop, and peg it.. and only the front end digs.. dug a pretty nice hole.. but i've never been able to peel out in this car ever before... i can even do it on asphault, with snow tires!!! :-\ So... i think it's either the clutch pack being burnt out (only being able to give power to the front end) or the solenoid is stuck in some odd position. The funny thing is.. there's no lights, no blinking AT OIL TEMP or anything... I've also done all of the preventitive maintainance, changed the ATF, checked my diff oils, they're good, even installed a tranny cooler... no change.. Now, i want my rear power back, what do i do? :-\ i'm going to get all the wheels off the ground, and see if the back end really isn't engaging.. but it sure does feel that way

That'd be hott! do green! do green!

yeah.. i'd stay away from borla if i were you... i had a flange crack off!! and then of course, the normal crack that happens when the two pipes are connected... it's just CRAP... do you want mine? i just want to get rid of them now... or may be i'll just get the new set they made.... and start re-enforcing the ************ out of them... mm... good idea...

have you tried the extra grounding mod? i found my 4eat shifts alot better with it... i just ran some heavy gauge wire from the neg. battery terminal, to some bolt on the block.. not sure exactly what it was -
Tire Report: (all measurement in thousands) Front Drivers Tread Depth: 240-250 Tire Pressure: 32.5psi Front Passengers Tread Depth: 170-180 Tire Pressure: 30psi Rear Drivers Tread Depth: 200-210 Tire Pressure: 32.5psi Rear Passengers Tread Depth: 240-250 Tire Pressure: 31.5psi So i'm going to make a large assumption and say that the front pass. side is giving me some troubles... although, i should really equalize ALL of the tire pressures (yeah yeah..... ) I'd also like to note that the Drivers side is in the sun... so those pressure readings could be a bit off due to the thermal stuff Now.... if i don't want to get a new tire... or have the others shaved down... where would the best place to put that one with the least amount of tread? i'm guessing the rear end... because it's basically a fwd car.. hmm.... ANd yes, it's a 4eat (auto)... but it also just ran over 183,000 miles

So here's the story: Caving Trip: 9/9/06 We get alot of gear, and 4 people in the car, we're coming out of a campus road.. on to a main road, and one of my front tires slips and squeels a bit, you know now a bit deal... although i wasn't really hammering on it or anything. Then.. after getting the gear we forgot, it did it again, this time on a slightly downhill embankment... then finnally, we were at a stop light, slightly down hill, and there was a bump under one of the wheels.. .didn't really romp on it, and it does it again... SO.. the only thing i've done rescently to the car is change the oil.... that wouldn't give it any sort of rediculous torque gain... the rear end was sort of weighted down.. but not really more than a usual trip is.. I'll try chaning out the ATF and see what's going on.. but there's no sort of binding... and i'm pretty sure the fwd fuse wouldn't fix it.. being that it's the front wheels that are peeling out... Especially because i have oversized tires on it.. and it doesn't have any sort of torque to spin those... It's a 97 OBS, 4eat, 2.2L, you know the deal....
