  1. I agree w/ nipster, when i went up to 16" rims from the 15"ers... huge gearing difference.... it could also be that when you give the 2.5 some go juice, it has more mass to move, than the 2.2... i mean.. that's why you can't rev an 8cyl to the sky... there's just way to much mass moving around in there
  2. MAF sensor? if you get any sort of moisture in there, it'll get mighty pissed off

  5. So, this story begins on Sunday the 20th of August, starting in Bradford, NH. So i load up the trailer & roo' with junk for school, and head out at about.. say 8amish, it's raining pretty good... no big deal, i roll up through VT, more rain, keep going... stop at the girl's house... get more junk in the roo' keep going... cruise on over to Potsdam, NY. After unhitching the trailer, emptying the roo', dropping the box & bike from the roo' it obtained 3 canoes stacked on the 78" load bars (i suppose it could have taken 4...), but anyhow, it's still misting/raining. at about 8pm Sunday the 20th of August, we head out, 13 canoes, on 2 vehicles (i'll have to get some pics...) still, some rain & mist.. no biggie... roll down 56, head over to the first drop off... the Oswegatchie River, drop 4 boats, head over to Tupper lake (refuel & coffee time! ~10pm) cruise over to the mighty bog river, drop 4 more boats, at this time my buddy w/ his truck (pulling the canoe trailer) starts to have some lack of voltage problems... eh.. no big deal, we keep on rollin' on to Long Lake... Coming down the Hill into Long Lake (it's a big hillish, with a bridge at the bottom, then leads into 'down town') i notice tom tailgating me.. no biggie... then he's in the other lane passing me.. no passing zone.. over a bridge... but.. eh.. my friends are wierd, whatever, we finnally get to the dropoff point (right over the bridge at the beach), and i get out... and am like 'hey guys.. .uh... what's up?' So they proceed to tell me all about how the truck died the second they stopped... infact every time the windshield wipers would go, ALL the lights in the truck would dim... So... we unload the last 5 boats, and proceed to rig up this beast of a truck (chevy silverado shortbed thing) with a canoe trailer to the roo', and we tow it a good 1.5 miles to the public boat launch, up some hills, down some hills... you know, no big deal for the mighty roo..... but keep in mind its still been misting & raining the whole time. So, parked the truck, yanked the battery, all of us are piled into the roo with a bunch of gear, and away we go! back to po-dam (~1am). So... rollin' along at a good clip, sporting the lightforces for a good portion of the time, we get a good ways on the road, pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and the roo starts bucking... making some bad noises, the rpms just started jumping & falling... not a good situation... especially in the middle of nowhere.... SO no big deal, right? we pulled over... turned it off, let it sit for a while, started up again... drove about a mile.. it did it again... so i started thinking... i've had problems with my fuel pump before... so we poped the cover on that, and wiggled a bunch of wires, and fired up the imp again... it went pretty well for a good 10 miles this time (all the way through Tupper lake)... just out of the town... starts acting up again... alot... we try playing with the fuel pump.. nothing... the thing that actually seemed to help the most was opening & slamming the rear passenger door... but whatever, so we limped back to Potsdam, did about 40mph the whole way.... with a very angry roo' Oh yeah.. and we got a CEL to pop up after dropping the battery repetivly on the fuel pump hatch.... it helped a bit... but got a cell.... So long story a little shorter, we finally got back to po-dam at about 4am, Monday the 21st. Quite a bit of an adventure... so the next day i rolled over to the auto place and checked out my CEL, and i got MAF low circuit input... hmm... doesnt' sound good.... so i ordered a new MAF ($207 ) And it's now sitting on our bar... waiting to be installed. SO, the moral of this story? If you have a PVC snorkle, and you drive ALOT in the mist/rain junk.. you could possibly get some moisture on you MAF.. .and make it not happy.. and get you stranded in the middle of nowhere... On a side note... went to the roo' dealer today and started looking at other roos mm... the outback xt there look so sexy But yeah.. that snorkle is going to come off... and i may end up bringing the imp back to stock, to get something... a little more reliable :-\
  6. In the rear, your camber adjustment is on the controling arm type thing, in towards the rear diff.
  7. So you don't end up with airbags in the face? did you end up fixing that? (sorry it's offtopic...) that's the reason i chopped off those hooks :-\
  8. persanally i think my obs is a little small for all the stuff i do... but i still love it. I think the newer ones are a little bigger anyhow. and a 2.5 would be hott in there
  9. i can't believe noone has called out WHEEL BEARING yet..... I'm going to say that's what it is... jack up the car (all 4 wheels off the ground, if you can), then put it in drive (maybe have someone to regulate the brakes, etc..) now put your hand on the spring/strut assy, if you feel the vibration, that's most likely a bearing. Also, with it up (wheels not moving) check to see if it wobbles any direction, grab the front & back of it, and try to torque it, do the same with the top & bottom.. if you get alot of play, your bearing most likely isn't happy. You can also rotate the wheel by hand and feel around where the axle goes into the hub. My imp did this... ohh... 3-4 times, so i'm pretty good at calling it out when it happens
  10. You've seen pics of the impreza before.... in places it shouldn't be :-p it does need a good buffing... or entire paint job... And i believe i've thrown up some pictures of the underside too... that'll make you cringe a bit
  11. You can make an outback go anywhere that pathfinder could go... or further... just depends what you want it to look like when you get out with it
  12. I have/had that same exact problem i'm going to put some money on your brakes... specifically 1 pad, and 1 side of the rotor. I JUST checked out mine... and one side was all good (both sides of one rotor) but then the pass side, the outside part of the disc looked fine.. but when i pulled off the rear pad, i found that the rotor does a sort of \_________/ thing... and it's causing a mighty fine vibration, at 50-55+ So, new rotor for me, and it'll be fixed.(and pads)
  13. yes, protection on the underside of a roo' is crucial... because you don't want your: oil pan, tranny pan, or gas tank to look like mine..... see Exibit A. and B... A: B: oops
  14. They can do what they want :-p As for ideas about imps... you can lift them body and/or suspension, put d/r trannys in them, you can put lots of bumpers and roof rack on them. Lights are always cool, along with skid plates, lots of those. I suppose you can also put bigger tires on them, and maybe even 14" steelies. If you've got an auto, and don't feel like dropping a d/r in it, you can ghetto-rig the solenoid C to lock up the clutch pack, giving your 'realish' 4wd. What else... you can make them float, perhaps a snorkle, more lights, bettet exhaust... maybe more lights? I always thought baskets on top of imps is pretty hott... with a large tire in it... That what you're looking for? a viscous LSD won't help you much offroad, unless you're rallying around... i'd prefer a clutch'd LSD myself.. Oh yeah, you can try to cram bigger diff gears in there to give yourself some better torque on those monster tires you're going to put in there Edit: oh yeah, put a CB radio in it, with a HUGE antenna
  15. alright, no holes now so, now to support em properly.. and brace the two pipes against eachother... nipster: Andy was too cheap to buy a new gasket i'm getting the proper materials soon. I'm going to blame the nickle for making this whole thing a pain... screws up everything :-\ As for the flex joint, it's a roo' joint, from an 03' wrx
  16. +1 that dealer guy doesn't know what he's doing. Your diff is a bunch of really large gears, they don't go bad very easily. Have you just tried changing the atf a few times? or i bet it's past that point already... :-\
  17. One side welded completely... i can get her redlined now and not hear any leaks! i can feel a leak on the other port... so that's the task for tomorrow.
  18. if money's an issue, i wouldn't lift your roo'... because with a lifted roo' you usually end up breaking more stuff.... i know from experience :-\
  19. It's T-304... which.. is eh... there's better alloys for this application...
  20. Derrick, I will NOT go wheelin' with you if you ever wear a thong, in fact, i will set your wagon on fire
  21. They do. i see that you roll with a 92' loyale there.. i think there's some options... i just don't remember.... you'll lose some supension travel if you just throw in larger springs.. but.. it happens.
  22. my 4eat, 97 obs does that... along with alot of other roo's with the 4eat... i wouldn't worry about it, it's just trying to let you know it's alive oh yeah, college cars for some reason get alot more milage than others... or at least mine did/does
  23. The first time i changed mine was at like.. 170k... and i change it every 6-8 months now something about the trailer.. and offroading alot... really pisses off my atf
