  1. build yourself a steel bumper, show those phone poles who's boss... idunno if it'll fit, but i think you could make it fit pretty easy, they all have the same basic plastic tappy things on top.
  2. i always worry about slashing my tires going through ice like that.. looks liek a good rim! i guess i'm gonna have to get some good shots now, eesh! with the borla's on i can really break the tires loose
  3. Muhahah eat your hearts out... or not Here's the mounts... or the pieces of the mounts so far... and here's the rest of it... in our living room Just you all wait
  4. You don't see anyone w/ a steel bumper on their imp... YET  i have the mounts sitting next to me right now... oh they're sexy... the rest of the tubing is downstairs, taking up most of our living room i think it looks better w/ the new paint, yes, and it's austin, it can pull off anything on that car, you all should know that now.. just all you wait... till i get that tube bender... and it'll be ALL over!! muhaHAHAHHAHA
  5. If you put the potentiometer slider thing in the middle, it should be a 50/50.. or.. wait i think i read somewhere that it's 'default' ratio front/back is 40/60? can anyone verify that?
  6. look here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50833 it's what i'm planning on doing eventually I know forester ranger put a dual range in his forester.., with some 29" super swampers
  7. wow... that's amazing... i think someone needs to do up their STi like that.. go around reving it up at old ladies in their woodie wagons
  8. Place: I89, northbound through vermont, roughly 6 miles north of monpelier When: About 3:45pm, today What: (97 EJ22, 4EAT, Impreza)I was driving up a hill, keeping the rpm's pretty high to compensate for the larger tires.. and to keep my speed up... and all the sudden the car sort of lurches... it almost felt like it poped into neutral and back again.. or tried to downshift, and changed it's mind mid-way... it did this a few times up that hill... straight away it's fine, and down hill it's fine.. it only seemed to happen when i was stressing the transmission up hills... but just cruising at about 70mph... from a stop i can step on it, and it's fine.... there was also a 'click'ish noise each time it happened, coming from the left from dash area.... what the hell is going on!?!? i checked the tranny fluid, it's there, it's red/purpleish (darker red than straight tranny fluid, but not black). Motor oil is fine, diff oil in the front is fine (didn't check the back).... Oh yeah, and one time it did it, the worst of all of them, it disengaged enough so that the engine reved up pretty high, and then cought... that was a good lurch... I'm thinking i might take out my 4wd switch, and splice those wires back together to see if anything changes... the only problem is it only happens at highway speeds... and i can't really go that fast around Potsdam.. no highway!!

    Rock Rails??

Ohhh... burnn!!! i think i'll doit up... if i get some extra cash to splurge on some 1x3 tube.. or something like that...
  10. yeah... it's amazing how smooth of a ride it is, when the vac. tube isn't sucking air . As for the Grounding, it's awesome, i can now mash the brakes/abs to the floor, with ALL my lights running and there's no dimming of lights at all. ALSO the 4EAT seems to shift alot smoother than it did before... even when i peg it, it shifts very smoothly, no hesitations at all. The lights inside also look a little brighter than usual.. but that might be because i was wearing my glasses today i still have 2 more grounding points to check i think.. i only got 6 done.. there's 2 small wires on the inside of the engine body part... to the left of the battery, and down, and the same place on the passenger side of the car. They looked little, and hard to reach, so i didn't bother... they also looked pretty rusty.. i already had to tap out 2 bolts today.. didn't feel like doing any more.. and in that spot.. would have been a nasty job.. might actually have to pull the engine to do it. As my bridge between the battery & engine block i used an old battery cable that i found in the barn, broke a pair of wire cutters trying to cut it.. so i moved on to the 3ft bolt cutters to get the job done After that i slid some ring terminals on it, busted out the torch, heated the crap out of the end, and mented 1/2lbs of solder into the wire , until it started to spew out the bottom of the terminal, heated it a bit more, and crimped that bad boy right now.. oh yeah, there was some heat shrink involved in there somewhere too.. In the end i just bolted the ring onto the neg. battery terminal with the bolt that holds the terminal on there... I'm not really sure what i bolted to on the block.. it was a bracket for some thing.. that has little vac. lines on it.. eh.. seems to work well
  11. Vac. Tube wins it today. right under the air box, big guy... i cant' believe i didnt' see it 1st time around. On a brighter note, all battery grounds are good and clean, and i have another beefy line from the neg. terminal to the engine block.
  12. vacuum leak?.. i've got some 'starter' fluid.. will that work to test ofr leaks.. rather than carb cleaner?
  13. So i went around, and cleaned up all the grounding points for the battery, and then i threw in a new cable from the battery, so all was good, i had it all hooked up, tightened all the bolts, clear coated all the raw metal, went into the car, put the key in, started it.. it started find, reved up to about 1.75K RPM, like normal, and then it started to come down, like usual... but instead of leveling off at say.. 1000 rpm, or something like that, it keeps dropping, and the engine stalls out.. i tried starting again, and i get the same thing... i pulled all of the extra crap off the battery (lights, etc..) and it's still the same. So, what do i do!?! my car's stuck in the shop, and i have to drive back to potsdam tomorrow morning! arggg, i must have pulled something, or grounded part of the block that shouldn't be grounded? i dunno.. all i know is that i need to fix it, quick! HELP! oh yeah, it's a 97 impreza, obs, 170K miles, ej22, you know, that car..
  14. i've been wondering the same thing... i'd rather be able to dump some sea foam in the oil than rip off the valve covers, and pull out the rockers to clean them manually..... Might want to check this link, if you feel like ripping apart your motor. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47262&highlight=rocker+ticking

    Rock Rails??

hmm... where to mount on an impreza... maybe i'll check tonight.... could just bolt up through the floor boards... cover it with carpet
  16. I use Mobil 1 10w-30 Synth. I drive crazy highway miles, and short 1 mile trips from my house to campus... it works great
  17. i've heard people have had good luck with geolanders... i persanally don't like 'all season' tires, i'd go w/ a full set of summer tires, and snows... For summer tires i have two set of Yokohama Avid Touring's and fun Snows i have a set of Dunlop Graspic DS2's (They're awesome). I ALSO have a set of Cooper Lifeliner Classic II's which i'm not really a fan of, but they're my.... 'between Summer and Winter' Tires.. yeah yeah.. i have way to many wheels, and way to many tires.. lol
  18. just remember, you're protecting your 'crumple zone'... lol.... a buddy of mine made a bammy basher, bolted it directly to the fame of his truck.... i'm very scared to drive in front of him
  19. milford is a sketchy town... i've also heard they've got a crack problem... potsdam is pretty sketchy too, you've got your super pretty college students, and your uber-hicks, and me stuck in the middle and Derrick's there too, but i think he considers himself a hippy very interesting place.... I'd rather a NH meet... my stomping grounds

    Rock Rails??

i was thinking something along the lines of 1x1" 1/8" wall square tube... stick it out say... 1-2 inches from the pinch seam, right at that level of the pinch weld... so i could stand on it to get into the box, and use them as running boards and protect the doors a little..
  21. Andyjo

    Rock Rails??

I've seen Heeps with them , 2 of my friends have them... they just seem like they'd add ALOT of weight, while protecting your pinch weld, but let's face.. none of us have those seams any more I dunno.. i found some Square tube that i could use..... sorta' heavy though... I also was thinking i should put running boards on it.. heh, for those covert subaru operations, with the black ops team on the side of the car..
  22. Youe CEl should be checked... goto like.. autozone, or something like that, they'll do it up for free. I say you lift it to the sky and throw some 33's under it
  23. Nah, i was heading from Swanton VT, down through Mid NH all on I98... those hills arn't nearly as bad as I91....
