  1. where is the first set of pics? looks like alot of fun!
  2. if you've got an engine block heater, then the defroster will warm up the engine, blowing cold air through the semi-warm radiator?
  3. HOTT! good work zap. What size are those? and how much trimming did you have to do to fit them? Austin & I were talking about fabricating some offset plates for that strut issue... but i've been lazy talkin' w/ the shop
  4. i also take it slow for the 1st mile or so, even if the engine is fully warmed up, like nipper said, the suspension needs to flex a little, also my transmission is a little punk in the cold, it takes a while to warm up and be happy.
  5. I just got back from talking to a few of my EE buddies, they said what was pretty much just said, use an amplifier, a 555 timer, and potentiometer. I'm gonna get researchin' on this... but yeah figuring out what the tranny wants will be the tricky part. The setup i was thinking of was with a 3-way switch. 1) Normal (let the car do whatever, so bypass all of extra circuitry) 2) Adjustable (via poteniometer) 3) 4WD (Locked up, cuts all voltage/current to solenoid) and i guess a 4th position for you over-achievers, for FWD You can also buy DC control units, they're like 50 bucks i think.. but that's cheating :-p sure am glad i took e-sci last year err, did you say the frequency of the pulsing is not changed? ie the wavelength is the same? and it's just bursts of this that changes the solenoid? i was thinking that the frequency of the pulses was what controled it... hmmm...
  6. I'm guessing the signal going to the solenoid is a sin wave... not a step function? i haven't gotten around to trying to figure it out... but if it's just a sin wave it'd be easier to modify the frequency.... unless we want to mess around w/ some good ol' fourier series! so is it: A: Sine wave: /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ or B: Step Function: _|_|_|_|_ yeah.. i'm bad w/ text art... you get the point...
  7. i've got an oscilliscope hangin' around here somewhere if someone wants to tell me where to plug that bad boy in.... and creating a variable frequency pulser shouldn't be that hard either.. i'll talk to my EE friends from school about this one
  8. if you're thinking of just disconnecting the swaybar from the links that should be as easy as replacing the bolt with a bolt/pin setup, right? maybe with some washers smacked in there...
  9. so if we're saying this.. that means that that wire never gets voltage unless you put in the fuse.... because the solenoid is on/off you can't shove... say 6V through to alter the split... therefore adding a switch will do nothing other than pop you into FWD.... interesting... maybe you're getting better traction in 2WD for some reason
  10. what'd you do to it? :-p looks like WRX wheels... anything else cool?
  11. you could also check into king springs, they have lift springs for the liberty.. which we don't have over here... but i think it's similar to the legacy? http://www.kingsprings.com/ if you end up getting some, let me know because i'm looking at their forester springs.. and shipping to the US might be cheaper if we have more than 1 order...
  12. also, if you can hear it at low speed (as to not get wind noise, tire noise) it's a good chance it's a bearing
  13. take the outback suspension, and put it in your legacy. That's it i believe.... just the struts, coils and tops (you might be able to use your tops actually...) There's alot of stuff about it in the offroad forum, try doing a search for legacy lift, or something like that.
  14. so, this modification, when engaged (switch on) would make the car behave exactly like the manual transmissions, which already have a 50/50 split?
  15. i just ripped through my haynes manual, and couldn't find anything about the duty solenoid C hmm....
  16. i was thinking about that also, and got to thinking, does that wire only get current when the tranny is put into first? why is it there if nothing controls it.... another thought i was thinking, you know the STi's have the controlable center diff, would it be possible to put a potentiometer on that wire, to have an adjustable center diff? sounds like it most likely wouldn't work that way.. but... someone who has more knowledge with these things might be able to prove me wrong
  17. I've got an OBS also, this break i shall complete this modification! or else... omg.. it sounds so sexy... think haynes has the right diagrams? and... wouldn't it be 2 wires for the splice?
  18. ..... you have no idea what you just said do you? out of anyone on this board i think she is the one to race the most
  19. when my heat shields were rattling, i crawled under the car, and bent them all away from the exhaust.... the ones between the exhaust & the body that is
  20. Hey, if i can be done, i want to know how! that'd be very useful in certian situations
  21. Eh, mine fell off, and austin cut his off... we actually had a conversation about this exact thing today... went something like: (20:03:55) Me: hey austin, you trimmed your fenders... what'd you do with that piece of plastic that goes around the fender well... that keeps crap out of the door hinges... (20:04:05) Austin: heh (20:04:14) Austin: well (20:04:16) Me: lemme guess.. nothing :-p (20:04:19) Austin: theres a lot of crap in my doors (20:04:22) Austin: (20:04:23) Me: ahhhh (20:04:25) Me: very good
  22. My buddy at UVM has this forester, and he can't get it to start (it's cold... so yeah..) I asked him the standard questions.... He says that when he turns the key it just clicks (like an automatic gun), and doens't even try to turn over.... i'm guessing starter is just being a pain in the rump roast... ideas?
  23. if your version of being careful involves a hammer, you may want to re-think your procedures
  24. and you reply to him "it's a subaru, it needs 4 new tires, not 2"
