the relay is behind the rear passenger side trim, by the lights back there, you have to pull it all out, it's screwed to the back sub frame there. I had the same problem, i had to re-sodlder all of the wires in the rear going to the hatch, after a while they wear out. It worked fine for a while but then stopped working again, i think there's a bad ground somewhere....

50w wouldn't draw that much current... just about 4.1 amps.... I can leave my 100w's on all day and start right up no problem

Does anyone use an aux-set of backup lights for off-roading/general use..? i could see them being very useful in some situations... especially when there's a wooden tobogan behind you I was also thinking of wiring my old drill trigger to the backup lights... for those pesky tailgaters

I'm new, What Subaru should I buy for offroading? Basic conversion Q's
Andyjo replied to BlueRidgeSE's topic in Off Road
I Think AA have a forester lift? i might be comepletely wrong on that one though.... You could look into some King Springs for it, which will give you a 2" suspension lift i believe... You should check out Forester_Ranger's forester... holy crap it's sweet! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/member.php?userid=131 With the foresters i think you're more limited with lifts, because you can't just swap out another subaru's struts.... but you might want to check out the baja struts? i have no idea about this one either, but it's been mentioned on this board before, and noone's tried out that option before.. swapping baja struts into a forester, that might be pretty hott..... I'd go with modifying the forester... it'll most likely be the cheaper way to go (since you already have it..) -
I had no troubles with the authorities i didnt' see any public property signs either... it shows up on topo use as a real road... or something like that, the way i found it, was that i was looking for a short cut to my friends house, so i threw it in topo usa, and it told me to go that way.... at this time i was driving the 77 scottsdale, and romped through there, although there was a 1.5ft diameter tree in the middle of the trail then.. not anymore... as for the ski area, Mt. Sunapee is pretty cool, i grew up skiing there, it's small, but nice. Lots of dirt roads that you can get some serious speed on If you want to get your subi airborn i could tell you where.. but you might not want to due to the lack of help in the area (blowing out tires/suspension etc..) By muddy under the ice i mean, if you get stopped by the ice (breaking through it) then there's a good chance you'll get bogged down in the mud under it. i spun around a little bit before i got traction in reverce to try again at the ice =P

I have about a 1.5" lift, and gnarly dunlop snow tires.... you would most certenly be able to do it if you dont' care about the vehicle much.. The only really sketchy part of my jurney was the ice, it was thick and nasty, i was very worried about slashing all my tires in that stuff. subie94, there was water/ice up past the bottom of my doorline at one point.., i'm sure you can handle it, just watch out, because it's uber muddy under that ice. I'll PM you the directions later tonight (i might even have a map for you too ) oh yeah... this trail wasn't really hard core off roading.. so most anyone's stock vehicle could make it through.. well. .maybe not an STi... i was scratching the rear end in the beginning a tiny bit. so clearance is a good thing to have

Nice rig, you oil pan looks a little exposed there, worried about that? perhaps a hard core skid plate/bashing plate would fix that
-
subie94, that's just like.. 45 miles north of you, i can give you directions if you want. It's in Newbury/New London NH, about 5 minutes off of 89 (Exit 11) The ice was super sketchy though.. it was about 1/2"-3/4" thick and i did ended up sliding sideways into some of the large chunks while i broke through it. I tried to strattle the side (as to only destroy one side of tires) but it was too slippery...You know it's thick ice when you can't move forward through it... so you've gotta back up and get a running start to break through Where are you moving to? i'll be back in NH around... dec 16thish

So i headed out on this truck trail before the drive to Potsdam yesterday, it was pretty fun, i thought for sure i was going to blow all my tires in the ice.. but they held strong! here's a few hundrew yards in.. The first water crossing (This one was running, no ice troubles here) Just before the ice... some sally rump roast subaru flexing Forde' the river! After the running water i ran into some ice which i happened to break right through When i got stuck 1/2 way through (thick ice..)i poped the door to see how deep it was... well.. it's that high Threw it in reverce, and subi-plowed through the rest of the ice The only damage resulting from the ice.... It was wicked fun, i think i covered somewhere around 1.5-2.5 miles, in about an hour, there was some nasty hill climbs that i didn't get shots of... because i didn't think i'd make it if i stopped

So there's this OBS in the junkyard that has a cruise control system, that i would like to remove, and install in my vehicle. I was wondering what need to remove for it to be fully functional, i know it's not just the switch So i need to know what i need... what it looks like, and where it is Thanks!

i concur with all the statements posted above I would also higly reccommend getting ahold of John, he'll know what's wrong, because he knows all about subaru's... or something along those lines. I've never delt with him directly, but from what i've seen & hear he's a great guy, and knows his (and your) stuff like nothing else. -

subie94, i've also experienced the squeel you speak of, and it just gets louder and louder when you go faster it does sound like a low pitch buzzing, but it's seemed to disapear today, i'll try to pay extra attention to it tomorrow... i think my rear wheel bearings are starting to act up again too but i'm not sure about the bearings.. it could just be the CB antenna in the wind or something crazy like that. eh -
torque binding
Andyjo replied to nosajh9's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
to me torque bind doesn't sound that bad... not as bad as driving a 2wd vehicle... i'd rather have a little rumble than lack of a wheel with power -
What he said or a dealer.. but that'll be pricy

steel costs that much right now? i've got some steel at school which i can 'borrow' from some of the speed teams... i just need a tube bender and a good welder... anyone in the Potsdam NY area that can help me out there?

i'll give the oil thing a try, it didn't seem ot be doing it as much today, maybe it was loose change or something rattling around? as for the tick/knock yours is doing the same thing mine done, when it's cold it ticks, when it warms up it goes away, that's the problem i first stated... i haven't had time to pop open the valve covers and mess with the rockers. -
soo... that's what a snorkle is for

the people i live with (NY) mostly thing it's cool, but one of them who drives a blazer thinks it's not so cool.. maybe because i have more clearance, and better off-roading skills than he does My dad thinks it's awesome... i've gotten alot of props on campus... My friends at home (NH) think it's funny... my mom has no clue what's going on... The girlfriend doesn't understand why i put so much time into it, and hates the thing
-
should have kept going i think you have a viscous center diff... so the back wheels should have been spinning at least a little, they most likely didn't have very good traction either.. or not enough torque was getting to them to do anything. I've been stuck plenty of times, and it's usually just one front and one rear spinning... not both front.. odd as for the ABS light, your abs system doesn't get happy when you clog up your brakes with mud/rocks/anything, so if you try to press the brake when there's crap between the pad & rotor it doesn't get happy. It's happened to me a few times, once it gets cleared out it turns off, it also might have to do with the non-spinning of the rear wheels.. but i dunno...
