  1. Snowman, there was a road, and a 4ft tall snowbank which i conquered, and kept going... there's a trail that goes out to the ski hill there that i was trying to drive on... thick wet heavy snow.... the subi plow didn't like it much.. or my lack of clearance
  2. i'm guessing it would cost me a large chunk of $$ if i were to goto a shop and get it done... aye?
  3. so how do i fix it? rip open the motor, and tighten some bolts? or replace parts (boo.. $$== boo)
  4. So i've had this car for over 4 years now.. and ever since i've had it one of the lifters has knocked, and it's finally starting to piss me off!! i know alot of subarus do this.. but how do you go about fixing it.... I'm sure there's other threads about the exact same thing, i just couldn't find them.
  5. Austin! nearly gave me a heart attack! i'm gonna have to stop driving my subi around town.. don't want to mess up my baby good to hear noone got hurt though!
  6. long straight items such as your 5 foot long, 1" pipe/breaker bar, for those pesky lug nuts that don't like to come off. perhaps if they're wide enough you could smuggle things across boreders...beer, fireworks, small canadain families? I don't have light mounted on the bottom side of the bars, because the front bar is to far back, i want em right up close to the windshield.... eh
  7. your car is going to sit about... 1.5-2" taller i'd say. it might also feel funny at first, because like you said, your car is lighter than the car the asssemblies were made for.
  8. Austin, I bought the thule kit, it didn't fit (like they said it would fit)... so i made it fit i had to touch up some spots where the sawzall wanted to go through my roof... i still have to search around, or make some plugs for the open ends, because it wistles like a..... a wistle... when i'm driving around, and it's super loud on the highway. I kept the front & back parts of the rails (instead of unscrewing em) because i thought it looked better, and i have my CB-mount on the rear passenger side rail part... i'm going to bolt down the middle part eventually. I've also got an extra OBS roof rack setup on my trailer if i ever need to swap back I still have to come up with some sort of light back though.... i've been thinging of rigging my own fold down light bar, because i carry alot on the roof... that's usually longer than the car, and lights get in the way.
  9. you could just cut off the OBS racks and use random parts of thule systems... edit Oh yeah OBS roof racks make awesome towel hangers for the bathroom
  10. We were wheelin' up at our ski hill last year... i found a LARGE rock, firmly attached to the ground, with my gas tank. There was also alot of loss in the pinch weld area, but nothing out of the ordinary.
  11. Here's my Impreza (obs..) trying to be a snow plow... ended up digging a whole lot that day
  12. problem solved, on the starting issue..... it so happens that both her and i drive subarus... and the keys look very much alike.... you can guess why my car didn't start from there.... but today, the rod fell out again, so i ripped everything out again, cleaned it all up, and super glued the rod back in place, hopefully it'll stay put this time.
  13. Update: Just got a phone call from the girl, it won't start now d'oh guess i'll get pictures for you all after all!
  14. figured it out, so if any of you have this problem ever. (oh yeah, it's an auto) there is a plate with a notched out section, and a little metal dowel going through it, attached to the base of the shifter. This piece just happened to vibrate itself out, so i ended up ripping off all of the trim from the center consoul, and inspecting this area, and found the piece of metal sitting next to the shifter. (about 1.5" long, 2-3mm diameter). just simply pressed the shift button at the top of the shifter, and shoved it back into the hole where it goes. I couldn't get the key out because the 'park switch' wasn't being switched by the piece of metal, this is also why the shift lock was not working, because it wasn't settling in the notches. I'll get a pic some day if anyone else has the same problem.
  15. 97 OBS- So my key is stuck in the ignition, in between lock and acc. and the shift locker isn't working. I'm guessing they're related. I think the problem might be that the lock doesn't know the car is in park.. although it is... it's sort of annoying using my spare to get in the car, with the key locked in there... so any ideas? i tried poping out the shift lock screw thing, and the screw under the stearing wheel, and no dice, tried shaking, rattling, smacking, you name it... i guess my next try is going to be crawling under and seeing if anything got stuck in the shift mechinism to the tranny keeping it from going into park..... perhaps my key went bad? i dunno... ideas?
  16. nope there's still no snow up north of subie94 this past weekend i cruised from Potsdam NY, to Peoria IL, via canada... no snow :-\
  17. my impreza's been at 45 degrees and loved it... no tippage though...
  18. i see you utilized the 'suba-plow' method, works very nicely doesn't it? Impreza + Snow = good times for all
  19. Austin, how much room do you have between the strut cup & tire.... none? when i get ahold of another forester rim (16") i'm going to throw on the LI215/70R60/C's on let's hear it for 28" tires on imprezas
  20. fabricate your own locking diff, and add hover mode for those really deep holes
  21. the fact is that V = w*r, where V is how fast you're going, w is the angular velocity of the wheel/tire and r is the radius. so, if you increase the radius of your tire, you increase your speed with the same angular velocity. So if you do it out with some ratios you get a percentage. That's my physics major in action there
  22. mine leaks right out of the threaded joints above the rack.. just dump some more fluid in and go... i've never seen the actual rack leak before...
  23. i have a set of dunlop winter-something or others, they work amazingly.
  24. mine always kicks in when i'm braking from like.. 30-5ish over a bumpy area... just because there's a lack of normal force on the wheels... very odd
  25. I ran across something the other that was talking about bypassing the ABS solenoid when offroading. I've been in a few situations (super steap & gravelly hills) where i think it might of helped not to have the abs kick in... although that's what the e-brake is for right? Discuss!
