He's correct, your subaru isn't a jeep, your subaru is better than a jeep I've done some pretty harsh stuff to my roo... nothing's come of it.. besides the normal stuff that happens when you get large rocks stuck in moving parts

nahh, i had the same thing in my OBS, just smelt bad.. alot. My problem was the oil pump, the screws in it came loose, tightened them up, and no more oil leak. it took us about 4 hours? maybe.. to do it. -

problem lifting a 2004 OBS with Forrester shocks
Andyjo replied to flyingmachine's topic in Off Road
well, first you bolt on the strut cap, get a spring compressor, and do all that jazz, so you have a strut/spring assembly. At this time the knuckle should be hanging down a good ways (supported somehow) because you had to get the other strut out. If you have all the right stuff disconnected (sway bar shoudl be it..) the forester strut should just fit right in there, then you bolt on the knuckle/hub, and then you lift all the junk up and allign it with the holes for the strut cap on the top. But you're saying you don't have enough room to put the strut in there? try sliding the assembly up from the back-outside of the wheel well, put the strut cap in the holes when you do this, and then lower it down to the knuckle maybe? with all my experience in there there has always been tons of room in there for struts/springs & lift -
sometimes the sliders that the caliper moves on gets jammed up, and you could have just free'd it up, causeing less rub. Or like the problem i had.. the pads were really hard to get in there, so i grinded off a little bit of the tabs on them, so they can move freely. another note: i tried 93 octane ones, and i got worse milage, because subaru's don't have the high compression, where something running 93 would need the high compression to get the benifits of running on it.

I don't mind if you advertise, since everyone also advertises for john You could also try to fabricate your own lift, could be tricky... could be fun.

So my rear windshied whiper wasn't working, for about 2 years. Today i got determined and descided to attack my hatch and fix this problem. After ripping out off the trim & pretty stuff i couldn't figure out what the problem was, poped out the motor, it works fine. So then i started testing wires... I discovered that 3 out of the 4 wires going to the wiper motor were not working. Now wouldn't you have guessed, i poped out the little rubber wire covering thing inbetween the hatch and body, and what did i find?! lots of broken wires! and some more wires getting ready to break (broken coating & stuff.) So 9 new wire segments, and 18 sodders later i had a working windshield wiper in the rear. I checked the other side, and found that the tube for the washer fluid was also broken (i'll fix it tomorrow). SOOO what's the moral of this story? If you have ~150k on your car, and it spends alot of time in the cold (-20F) you might get some broken wires in those links! I hope this helps out someone who can's figure out why their electrical stuff on the hatch isn't working. (Brake light, windshield wiper, defroster, etc..).

The CVs should be able to move... ALOT especially without the struts in there. You might want to throw in the read forester strutcaps...? you might also want to try to bolt the knuckle on first, then bolt up the caps.. which seems to be the way i always put them in... -
The noise sounds like a CV issue.. which you said you had just swapped out... perhaps it would be in wroing? A grinding noise came from my breaks when i wore them down to nothing.... Maybe you could clean out your brakes w/ an air compressor... that's how i usually clean my stuff... I feel your pain about not being able to get stuff to work. I spend 2 hours trying to hook up the hydrolic lines for the steering rack.. so freaking tight in there!

most of the off-roading i do is at night.. but then again we don't have terrain like that in NH Good lights will make a world of difference.. well.. doesn't help your traction or roll angle.. but you can see when you're going over!

I'm not going to sell it, but i got my Impreza Outback Sport (OBS) for 6k. It's been modified somewhat... and has proven itself on many occasions offroad. To lift it all you need to do is throw in some forester struts... I'd persanally get a real outback if i were to get another car... most cargo room.. more leg room in the back... oh yeah, something else tha ti thought was cool... i just got 27.3mpg! woohoo! and that's with the 78" load bars and the box on top..
