  1. Was the hit dead center of towards the driver's side? There is a large control cable on the driver side near the battery area. Was the battery secured by the bracket or free standing? Maybe the battery shifted slamming into the cable. There is a plug connector Unplug and plug it back.
  2. While driving home tonight my driver side cv blew. Car is 92 Loyale sedan 4wd. Any caveats I should know about changing these? Different splines etc ? O'Reilly is ok for these? This is my daily so I need to do the job Sat.
  3. If the stealer ship offers to finance the difference, run away. They aren't selling cars, they are selling shark loans.
  4. The price haggling phone call is used car salesman antics. It is priced way too high for a automatic. Bring out the KBB value for him. They smell a sucker. Don't be that sucker. Tell them you are a struggling student, your kid is sick and needs an operation, your dying mother want to see the mountain top one more time before she is gone. See how this works? I love Loyales, I really do. But they aren't worth that much in resale especially the automatic. Have you driven that car at highway speeds? Do a test drive trying to hit 65 or 70 in 3rd gear which is the highest gear on the automatic. Did you crawl under it to see if the axle boots are broken? Turn on the heater for a while and then the ac at least 10 min each to be sure there is no mouse piss in the hvac. 60k is the timing belt interval on the engine. Have they been done? If not. You are probably looking to pay a shop 2000 to do it and that is assuming they know Subaru EA82 and that each belt is 180 degrees different. Your $3000 car could top 5k before you can use it as a daily driver. Not trying to be Mr negative but don't want you to get taken. On the other hand if you have been taking apart cars since you were in the womb and have oil in your blood and the tools, time and money to fix whatever may arise, go for it. If you are the type that hires people to wrench on your car and changing a ball joint scares you then this will quickly eat up your limited budget and you will come to hate the car.
  5. 4K is too much. Offer them 2800. Is it manual or automatic? If automatic offer 1200. Low mileage means little as the seal don't care about it. A 26yr old seal on a 88k car is no different than a 300k car other than the 88k car will have dry seals from never having been kept wet through daily use.
  6. I have had occasions where morning starts rough idled and stalled. I cleaned the IAC by removing the hose and a cap full of Berryman's. Haven't had the issue since.
  7. Why don't you try penetrating test probes? They can pierce insulation thus not requiring the connector to be removed.
  8. I have had hit or miss luck with parts store alternators. Last time I got one at Auto Zone and had to return it. It would get hot as if the bearings were bad. The clerk insisted it couldn't be bad as the sticker said it was triple checked in Malaysia. He wasn't going to exchange or refund. Then I insisted he put it on the tester and spin it up. He got a red face when it failed. I got my swap and it is still working today.
  9. It may be at a low level. After sitting overnight, oil can run out of the galleys and into the pan increasing measured level. Once started, the galleys are filled and the measured level is down. Call your dealer and ask if they would check it for free since it is so new. I have found on my Loyale that the difference between barely wetting the stick and full is a very small amount of oil. I also seem to recall there is a small oil consumption with the Crosstreks. http://www.torquenews.com/1084/update-subaru-oil-consumption-class-action-lawsuit
  10. Sound deadening mat like Dynamat. It isn't cheap thouhh.
  11. What year is that Jeep? Do they use the same Can bus system as the Rams?
  12. Now that's the kind of fairy tale ending that makes the holiday so special.
  13. A few weeks ago I was having steering wobble on my red loyale sedan. Tires were my first suspect. I swapped the driver front with back but still had wobble most pronounced going slow. Since I knew I was going to be putting snow tires on in a week, I didn't bother swapping the passenger side. Well the snow tires are on and no wobble. This could have been many other steering and suspension components. The tires actually look new by visual inspection. Come spring time, I will get a new set.
  14. My guess is the delay is the fuel pump getting up to pressure. Try this, turn key to on but not start. Listen for buzzing of fuel pump. Once it stops, crank engine. This is normal behavior.
  15. Check you iac harness. They have a tendency for the wires to work loose from the plug. Also you can clean the iac with Berryman's
  16. Nice testimonial. I have always been impressed with the low cost and reliability of the Loyales. With only basic maintenance you can have a reliable daily driver with decent fuel economy.
  17. As long as you don't use a Fram filter you will be fine.
