Your Brat is wonderful and that nice shiny engine is great too. It has been a while since I saw a clean engine bay like new. I don't wish to own it though. I would much rather someone like you own it and keep it in museum quality as you are doing. There is an older fellow with an original Brat in showroom condition only 28k original miles. He brings it out for WCSS every year. Preserving history is much more important to me than bragging rights. Thanks for stepping up to the challenge.

Does it run? Just drive it.

Not sure what that blob of metal is in the cam gear but I bet you could knock it out of there with a screw driver and hammer. Once you do that, pull the plugs and put a wrench on the crank bolt and see if you can turn it by hand. Disconnect the battery for safety. On second thought it looks deformed. I would go to jy and get a replacement. -

EA 82 wast of time ?

Bought my 1993 Loyale new in 1994. Had it ever since. If you want easy to maintain, reliable transportation, it is worth it. If you want formula one performance, look elsewhere. -
What? Didn't you get the built in engine oil rust prevention coating option?

I guess I am a slacker here. Everyone else's run perfect.

Shame. You forgot to include "Just EJ it." -
Having older cars as daily drivers means that some things don't always get fixed right away if they can be deferred. Let me give an example. My little red sedan Ash has oddly operating heater controls. I need to press the heat button to get air to blow on the windshield. Also since the ac compressor is also used as a dehumidifier, it will engage when the heater is on and it is humid. The belt makes a high pitch screeching sound that can be heard for blocks. It startles pedestrians sometimes. What quirks does your car have?

Worse / Best / Stupidest Wrench Turning Mistake!
MR_Loyale replied to Sonicfrog's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It was in 2006 I think. I had the ea82 out to do a reseal and timing belts. I also replaced the water pump while I was there. The Haynes manual said 40ft lb on the torque. This of course snapped the bolt. That day I learned to not trust Haynes torque figures. Luckily the broken bolt was proud of the block and I was able to get it out with vise grips. -

If you need seals, Oreilys sells a grab bag of these for about five bucks.

Pictures are good too. Great way to capture how things are before you take them off. -
You could just keep it as a show car. Drive it a few miles a month. At least in WA, antique cars get a reduced rrgis ration fee after we 25 years.

My only advice is take it slow and steady. It is costlier to do it over again than it is doing it right he first time. Also ask many questions and take picture for us as well. I have discovered that if you use something like masking tape such that when you disconnect a hose or electrical connector, write down the step number of the dis-assembly. Then putting it back together is simply a matter of counting the steps in reverse. -

That is the way to pull yourself up by your boot straps! In your dining room no less! I feel like such a wimp using an engine crane and stand. What engine was it? -
You can post the link to the picassa pics.

Who is going to WCSS17?

Won't be going. Someone who I had hired to help with a job on my house bailed. I am doing that myself. -
