  1. I am not hitched at the hip to the name Marcus. And you'd have to try much harder to offend me . Convoy brings recollections of a movie old timers will remember long before you were born (10-4 rubber duck): And no, it wasn't a porn movie. The image above is very misleading. LOL. The only synonym for convoy I get is ....wait for it... Escort. LOL. On the plus side though, we would have a theme song:
  2. Somehow I doubt "rich" applies to owners of 30 yr old Subarus. All you millionaires here on USMB, raise your hands.
  3. Ok folks here is the official plan for our WCSS Subie Trek COMMUNICATION: Cell phones for long distance. If you are in Ellensberg and running 20 mins late because your radiator hose broke, call me and we will wait for you. ON THE ROUTE: FRS radios. If you are not familiar with these, they are similar to walkie talkies but with a 2 mile range. No license required, no monthly minute plan. A pair can be had for about $25. I am willing to loan some but if you can afford it I ask you to buy a pair. The link below is a good source: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004RG0YMM/ref=sr_1_8_olp?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1375735183&sr=1-8&condition=new NOTE: Do not buy from Packet eCommerce Solutions (one of the vendors in the above link). They do not ship from California as they say in their Amazon listing. They ship from Ohio. RENDEZVOUS: Tacoma Mall parking lot between 12:30 and 1:30 pm Friday Sept 6. Meet across from the Krispy Kreme(4302 Tacoma Mall Blvd) in the Sears parking lot. I figure this will give us time to meet each other while waiting for others to arrive. I will have FREE FOOD - doesn't get any better than that. Longview is about 1.5 hours away. Directions to the Tacoma Mall Southbound I-5: Take exit 133 onto S 38 st. Turn left at the first intersection ont Tacoma Mall Blvd. and keeping going straight until you see Krispy kreme, about .75 mile on your right. You will see us with a big Subaru Flag just beyond. Northbound I-5: Take exit 130 for S 56th St toward Tacoma Mall Blvd. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Tacoma Mall Blvd and merge onto S 56th St. Turn right onto Tacoma Mall Blvd. Keep going about ROUTE: Tacoma Mall to Longview/WCSS site. Time about 1.5 hours. Arrive at WCSS around 3PM.
  4. Yes. I have just returned from a scouting mission to Krispy Kreme at Tacoma Mall. Of course I had to sample the product to make sure it is up to WCSS Caravan Subie Trek standards LOL. The area right across from Krispy Kreme near the blue donation bin seems perfect. I will update the instructions to make this the official "place". Just to get an idea, if I buy the double dozen deal, all you folks are going to eat them aren't you? Cause I ain't gettin no wheat grass juice! Just updated our itinerary post. Everyone please review.
  5. Must not have had the right search term, came right up for me: http://www.troublecodes.net/Subaru/
  6. Wait a minute. Excessive differential thermal expansion? Are you saying the heads and block are different metals? I thought they were both aluminum.
  7. No problem. I absolutely hate scumballs that take advantage of folks. Might want to consider a class action suit. I know on the Toyota 4 runner forums there is at least one guy who got screwed by Engine Haus. It would bolster your AG complaint if you could get that guy to join your complaint. User is jmt2404 and you can read his bad experience here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/97531-seattle-area-maintenance-meet-11.html This Engine Haus guy supresses any negative info about himself using an internet reputation company so no potential customers get wind of his scam via google. You will also notice this thread is hard to find on google using any negative search term. I wonder why that is ?? Hmm. Let's try an experiment. Say I write "Gig harbor engine Haus sucks". Now you would expect that googling this a day or so later would get a hit, right? Let's see if we can come back in three days and get a result googling Gig harbor engine Haus sucks". I am just glad you posted before I became a victim too. Like I said, I was given a car with a blown engine (Toyota) and was seriously looking at Enginehaus. Not anymore. PREDICTION: Enginehaus will be out of business within 24 months.
  8. How is he with bullet holes? Does he give an Old Gen discount? Of course now the prankster in me wants to get a bunch of those bullet hole stickers and have everyone put them on their cars. Ok, I'm done now.
  9. That was INSIDE the mall. We will be outside. We will hear the commotion and see the bloodied people running out long before the angry punk with a gun gets near us. Plenty of time to make a quick exit. Besides no on eactually died in that 2005 shooting. I suspect if one can survive the massacre in Moscow ID, one can survive anything. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/18766089/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/t/idaho-police-officer-injured-shooting-dies/
  10. That sounds like a perfect place. Doughnuts......................
  11. You will be fine. It is right off I-5. Watch this thread for more info.
  12. Twitch is going to contact you. All info is in old gen caravan thread.
  13. Actually Marcus it was your excellent suggestion on the Tacoma Mall. I am hoping I can count on you to help for any setup activities we may need to do at the Mall lot. I want to scout an area in the lot where it is fairly open so as folks pull up to join, they can park and we can talk. I am thinking once everyone has arrived, grabbed some grub we will then depart. Are you on board with that idea?
  14. I do know Rochester very well (Exit 82). And I am not a Lucky Eagle. Let's just leave it at that.
  15. The video starts with the driver side, rotate then passenger side. Not sure if it makes a difference.
  16. The belts are put in 180 degrees different. You put the dizzy side in, turn the crank one revolution and then the other. Watch the excellent Miles Fox vid:
  17. Good find on the FRS radios. Be sure to bring Frankensubie with you.
  18. You and me both. Anyway we got folks from Seattle Tacoma area and a few from further East than you. One from PA another from OH. I put the timing on the caravan thread. Actually on this route you won't even go through Seattle. You will take 18 South and avoid it all together.
  19. Did you check the vehicle weight limit on the door jam? Sounds like you exceeded the weight limit.
  20. I don't think it matters if it is covered or not n the written warranty. I think they have to pay for it. I think the legal term is implied warranty of merchantability. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act there is an implied warranty that no retailer can ever change: The Act prohibits anyone who offers a written warranty from disclaiming or modifying implied warranties. This means that no matter how broad or narrow your written warranty is, your customers always will receive the basic protection of the implied warranty of merchantability. http://www.mlmlaw.com/library/guides/ftc/warranties/undermag.htm Basically if you buy a new car, you expect it to start, drive down the road without the wheel falling off a week later. In your case you bought a re manufactured engine. The implication is that it will be usable for at least a minimum period of time without leaks. It is illegal for Engine Haus to deny warranty coverage for the implied warranty. He will try to bully you but he isn't a lawyer. The law is on your side here. The Federal Trade Commission also takes complaints: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ If you sue him under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act he has to pay your attorneys cost and court costs in addition to any judgement if he loses. I almost forgot the best suggestion - your local TV investigative consumer reporter. On the west side it is Jessie Jones -King5. I would go to King5.com and email Jessie Jones if I were you. He is fantastic at tracking down scumballs and making them pay. I say west side even though you are in Spokane because negative press over on this side of the state will hurt the guy more than in Spokane. After he screwed you, that is your best revenge. But don't spread slander, just the facts, plain and business like if you please.
  21. Ok folks here is the tentative plan for our Subie Caravan and this is a draft draft so if you see something that you don't like or would like to change feel free to speak up. Don't just stomp out and quit. My goal is to accommodate as many folks as we can get. But as you can guess coordinating with folks as far away as PA isn't easy. They will have driven a long distance and probably be tired. And folks from Eastern Washington and Idaho are going to have to get up early too. COMMUNICATION: Cell phones for long distance. Now go ahead and poke holes in my battle plan. I will only cry for a little while - LOL.
  22. Michelin - Any chance of you posting pics of your damage?
  23. This is too bad to hear. I was given a 1998 Toyota Camry with a blown engine (murdered I should say as the driver drove it even though the oil light was blinking so of course it threw a rod). Anyways I was considering Engine haus for my engine replacement. They are close, seem OK pricewise if they stand behind their warranty. Does anyone know of any other businesses that will replace an engine in a 1998 Toyota Camry? I looked at the engine in there, a 5SFE they call it. Damndest contraption you ever saw. An exhaust like an elephant's trunk and a very asymmetrical inline 4 banger sitting sideways. BTW yours is not the only bad story I heard about Gig Harbor Engine Haus. Kind of hard to dismiss it as a fluke though when it hits home to one of our own Subie folk. Michelin, please keep us posted on how this is resolved. If the guy steps up and makes it right or if he is a total dirtwad we want to know. In the meantime I will look for someone else to do the work.
  24. Don't forget the better business bureau
