Have a question about the Crosstrek? Ask an owner!

Have any new owners towed with it? -
somebody tried breaking in to my soob!
MR_Loyale replied to subi dude's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Years ago someone tried to open my Loyale trunk with a screwdriver. The key slot is still bent out a bit where the idiot tried prying on it. Smash and grabbers tend to be drug abusers looking for a quick score. -

Because Tacoma is so free of crime. -
That first article on O2 sensors was good reading. I noticed this part: Unheated 1 or 2 wire wire O2 sensors on 1976 through early 1990s vehicles can be replaced every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. I replaced my original non-heater sensor at 130K only after it threw an engine code so I think I got my money's worth out of it.

Mice... Why did it have to be mice
MR_Loyale replied to Ofeargall's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This happened to me in the fall of 1994 just two months after I purchased my NEW Loyale. Running the heater caused mice bedding to fly into my face with the nasty stench of mouse urine. I took it to the dealer and they pulled out two garbage bags full of mice bedding from the exact same place as yours! I put mouse traps in my engine compartment at night and they would be full by morning. I finally went to the hardware store and got some window screen material and made custom covers I glued to the air intake vents to prevent mice from getting in. On the lighter side, my friend who I was staying with at the time kidded me about "Hanta Clause coming to town" . -
+1 My exact experience as well. Midas and Mieneke are ripoffs. Years ago I recall my 72 Dodge Dart, took it to Meineke about a wheel issue. The crooked tech called myself, father and brother into the shop where the car was on the lift. He then proceeded to tell me how the exhaust was bad and needed to be replaced and as proof he grabbed the channel locks and proceeded to wrench on the pipe as hard as he could,. My brother told him if he broke it he bought it. The guy's face was all bunched up as he put all the pressure he could to force a hole in the exhaust but it was a new exhaust and he couldn't even make a dent. I was pissed and told him to take the car down and we left. Ma and pa muffler shops that can torch a section in are the best. They won't rip you off. There is one called Doc Muffler in Spokane Wa I recommend on Division for those out West. Most towns have them. Their shops may not be as fancy, but they know what they are doing.

Meh. I get that all the time. In cold weather water condenses in the filler neck. If you had a hg leak, it would be mocha when you change the oil.

Those are the exact symptoms I had on my Loyale and it went on for a few weeks without a code and then threw an O2 sensor code. I replaced the sensor and now it runs fine, no code, no bucking like a bronc. Here is a discussion on this code P0420: http://allwheeldriveauto.com/subaru-check-engine-light-and-code-p0420-explained/ One of the proposed solutions is "start with the higher octane fuel, some driving at higher RPMs at lower speeds and see if you can breath a little more life out of your Catalyst." The guy in the discussion tried that advice and it worked. Certainly a free thing you can try out. Good luck.

That is the sixth digit of the VIn number. It is the engine code the values mean: 2 1.6L 3 1.6L 4WD 4 1.8L 5 1.8L 4WD 6 1.8L 4WD with air suspension This and other great repair info is found in the Hayne Repair Manual:

This is a wild stab here so please no flaming. Ask if there is a GPS tracking device in your car: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/131888-my-wifes-car-has-been-monitored-with-gps-without-our-permission/ -
Where is the LOYALE in that commercial??!?? They had the little "cheap and ugly" car, but not my beloved Loyale.

Now that is the way to respect the roo!

When was the last time you cleaned the MAS? -
I am trying to do a little bit of both. Over time small changes in performance make it almost imperceptable until it gets really bad. How long should a fuel injector be expected to last? I got 20 years on mine so far. Aren't there rubber bits in there too? They can't last forever I suspect. I do have SPFI so it is only one injector. If I thought I would gain 20% or more would spend the money to replace it. Right now I do more short grocery gettting trips than long hauls so I expect the mileage to not be the best. Is it worhwhile preventative maintenance to replace them on a schedule or just wait until they throw a code? I recall when the O2 sensor went bad, it bucked and hopped like a trip on a wagon trail in a horse drawn carriage. It did that for a week unti the CEL came on and gave me the code to replace it.

I remember about 6 months after I bought my Loyale in 1994, the dealer service guy tried to sell me on an injector cleaning service. Now I am no mechanical genius, but even I could tell that ws not needed at least at that new of a car. I have seen videos suggesting that cleaning fuel injectors will improve fuel economy and make it run smoother. Has anyone else had experience doing this? I know there are a variety of things out there from service shop machines to simply a can of seafoam. I have never had an injector cleaning service done. I just throw in a can of techron every few years. My fear is that an "injector service" would cause more problems than it would solve and injectors aren't cheap. My soob runs ok to me right now so maybe best to leave well enough alone. Please post your experiences on this topic.

I feel so inadequate with only 145K on my 93 Loyale. It is my first new car I bought in 1994. I will probably retire before it does. I have got to get out and drive more. -
Looking to Invest in My First Subaru
MR_Loyale replied to tdodge41's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Absolutely true. In 2008 I pulled my engine did timing belts, clutch, oil and water pumps even though I had never done any of it before. I followed all the good information out there (thank you Miles Fox I officially dub thee Guru-baru of the Subaru ) took it nice an SLOW. I was quite anal about taping and marking every connector on each end with a number of the order in which I took it off. I recored this step on a sheet of paper. Assembly was simply following in reverse. She started up first crank!
