Wow, you guys are really torturous to your subies. I drive mine like a little old lady compared to you guys. :-p

When I did mine I found that going really slow, mark and tag everything meticulosly and write it down on a pad helped my sanity. When I went to put things back together, all I had to do was read the steps backwards.

Interesting wasn't quite the word (of the many swear words) I used to describe that design. In fact I don't recall using the word insteresting. If someone knows how to say "interesting" in four letters, I'm all ears.

The pipe simply seals using an O-ring that typically comes with a new water pump. The pipe has a crimped section where it mates with the water pump flange. I concluded that was the portion that was leaking. Being the cheapskate I am, I deferred purckasing the $70 pipe and instead smeared RTV all over the crimped portion. For good measure I threw in some stop leak as well. You have to remove the alternator and set the AC aside to get at the pipe. For most experts here probably about a 15 minute job. For me, probably about 2 hours.

Dude you definitely get the McGiver award for that one. I feel so unworthy now that I couldn't get a spun crankshaft pulley back on in the middle of the night and had to be towed.

Unfortunately I already went ahead and ordered a replacement from Rock Auto. Thanks for offering though.

Does anyone remember if the crankshaft bolt on EA82 is 24 or 22 mm? I should know this, but I am getting old so that is my excuse.

Wouldn't a timing light give conclusive proof as to whether or not the timing belt was way off?

I looked at Rock Auto and couldn't find it until you came along. I must be a really lame searcher. It happens as you get older, or maybe just as I get older. Now if only the hearing will go so I don't have to listen to little kids screaming their lungs out when I go out to eat. Thanks.

Ok. I will sand it down and use it for now. I tried looking on the net last night and couldn't even find anyone that sold replacements. Is Subaru the only place those can be had or is the junk yard the only source?

After waiting for NBC to show Phelps getting his 8th gold, I went out to get some food. As I was driving along, the brake, charge and power steering light all came on. The steering got stiff and so I pulled over. Turns out the crankshaft bolt came loose. I wasn't able to tighten it with the belts on the pulleys by hand so I took it off and it got chipped when it fell out of my hands onto the ground. Now it has a nick in it and I am afraid it will cut into the belts when I put it back on. Will it be ok or should I replace it? Where can I get another one?

I listened closely today to teh sound and it is probably 1-2 seconds. But it sounds like some sort of mechanism moving. I can move the key forward (not starting) and the soudn happens. It sounds like some sort of mechanism that hits a stop block or something. When I turn the key off there is a sound like the mechanism releases and it clicks as if something with a travel was release. I can turn the key on and it buzzes and off it clicks. It definitely sounds like it is coming from withing the dashboard.

I thought the fuel pump was in the rear. This buzzing sounds like it is coming from the dash.

When I go to start my Loyale, I turn the key forward but not enough to crank the engine. I notice there is a buzzing sound like motor running or something for about 4 seconds and then it stops. If I turn the key all the way it starts up. What is that buzzing noise? It sounds like some sort of mechanism engaging or something.

I am looking for an aftermarket digital water temperature gauge to put on my Loyale. Does anyone have any recomendations?

Very cool. You should hook the exhaust up to a hose venting outside if you are going to run it a lot. But there is no better way to prove it all works without putting it back in the car.

I was listening to a local auto talk radio show this morning and they had a question about Subaru's and coolant. The host said that Subaru has a coolant additive that must be added or else the head gaskets can be compromised. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is this another piece of common Subaru knowledge of which I have been clueless or is this BS?

I just got done foing an engine reseal with a new clutch on my Loyale. The Hill Holder needs some adjustment though because I cannot release the clutch slowly or the hill holder is engaged. This happens at frequent stops in ity driving. When I quickly release the clutch it either killes the motor or I burnout. Any help on adjusting the hill holder is appreciated.

Does anyone know of a good source for a cruise control kit for a Loyale with manual transmission?
