Yesterday I took the manifold, carburetor, and accessories off the engine of my Coupe. I know the engine has been replaced at some point years ago but I'm not sure what the donor vehicle was exactly. To my dismay, I discovered that it has the single barrel C-W factory carb and after baking in the desert for 11 years with fuel in it, I'm sure it needs rebuilt. Yuck. My goal this afternoon was to remove the engine completely as I wanted to give it a good look over and the spark plugs I pulled out the other night didn't look pretty, covered in white crystals and rusty. Now heres the funny part to this story, because there is one. I'm currently in limbo in the middle of a drawn out cross country move so where I am now, the only tools I have is whatever fits in a portable 3 drawer tool box and a breaker bar. And it will be this way for another 2.5 months. So having realized I have no cherrypicker with me, I took the engine apart piece by piece all the way down to the short block, then got some help lifting that whole assembly over the front of the car and onto some cardboard. The pictures attached show the engine pieces and honest to goodness the only tools I used on this whole job. The valve springs were a bit rusty and there is a bunch of sludge in the valvetrain area, but the bores look pretty good, so I'm hoping this shouldn't be too difficult. More to come shortly.

1982 GLF Coupe windshield help needed
tylertrend replied to tylertrend's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I communicated with them through email, first on eBay, then their company sales email. No problem at all, just paid the invoice now so all in about 3 days. 86Bratman is right on with the OEM part numbers. I bought the front and rear gasket, plus shipping to the US was a total of $188 USD. Not too bad IMO. -

Thank you, I was just in contact with him yesterday and they are sending out the front and rear window gaskets in a day or two. They are the ones marketed for the 1800 GFT. I'll be happy when this ordeal is over. Now to fix the engine... -

Not a bad idea at all. I see there was a thread on that very possibility a few years ago but it kind of went to die. Any idea who we would do that through/ who can manufacture them? -

I've been looking into using one for a BRAT and would be really nice if I could. I believe there might be some differences in the chrome trim they used (Coupe is wider) but I bet I could work around that. Unfortunately my gasket sat in the Oklahoma sun for 36 years and was so dry it basically shattered into hundreds of pieces when it came out. -
Hello all, some of you may know by now that I recently acquired a 1982 GLF Coupe and the more I tear into it and do my homework, the more I realize that this Sube is a bit of an oddball and finding certain parts is tricky. Last week I had to remove the windshield and so now I am trying to find a replacement gasket so I can reinstall said windshield when the time comes. Now my problem; I cannot find the gasket PN 765061030 anywhere, (like any where in the whole world), and I have been searching for many many days. I understand this Coupe is a different part number than the sedan, wagon, Brat, so on but does anyone really know just HOW different it is? Then I got started on the possibility of using a gen 1coupe (up to 1979) gasket. Does anyone know if that would be possible? I'm also looking at one online thats for a GFT 1800 Coupe, its an AUS model, but looking at pictures online it seems like those models overlap the model years of the 2nd gen Leones in the US. I really just don't know. I talked with several local glass shops here in OK City and no one said they would attempt to float it in with urethane or try universal gaskets, etc etc. Any leads or help you folks could offer would be great. If anyone has one high up on a shelf in the attic they could part with, I've got a small retirement fund I would trade for one of these at this point. Thanks,

I had this problem with my 98 and 99 Outbacks. 1) The factory upgraded alarm system on those as I recall has a separate plastic cone horn near the passenger side firewall and those wires are often cut (mine were), which is why you wouldn't hear anything. I wonder what set it off in the first place, for me it was my neighbors key fob, I only had a straight key for it. 2) I can't speak to why they are designed this way, but it seems to be the way they operate, maybe someone else can verify this for me? 3) It's possible there isn't but I have no idea either way so I'd research that, as it seems you are.

Being a 1984, it should have an EA-81 Turbo. Most likely that one is water cooled so that helps the reliability a lot, although there seems to be some disagreement as to how reliable they are. The engine has to be kept cool, or it will crack everything on and around it. I have a used working ea-81t in my garage now and it made it this far in the world, so take that as you will. I have certainly heard of swapping trannys for a manual but I don't know the specifics about that operation. I have a handful of parts for an 84 turbo coupe so give me a shout if you need something, I'll see if I have it. If the vehicles in decent shape, I'd say snatch it up. I always thought they were neat little vehicles and pretty rare at this point. Good Luck

Currently philsrotary does not have any and when I messaged them they didn't indicate that they would have any more stock. Plus shipping to the US is tricky with them.

Sorry to raise an older thread but I just bought a 1982 GLF Coupe HT, and have spent weeks trying to find a windshield gasket to no avail. I hear the coupe is different from everything else, but could I get away with using one from a sedan/ wagon if I had to? How about from a gen 1 Leone sedan or coupe? I would really appreciate it if any one had information on suppliers or individuals where these can still be had. Also, if a group buy ever comes up again, I would throw my name in that ring. Thanks for any information.

The Awesome Older Generation Picture Thread
tylertrend replied to 6 Star's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just picked up this 1982 GLF Hardtop the other day. Very little rust, but needs some serious interior work, which I happen to have a bunch of parts for from an old Brat. It pays to hoard I guess.
