I bought a new A/C compressor for my 84 brat. The system was already converted over to R134a. The new compressor does not come with any oil in it. Can someone tell me how much oil I should add and if I should use PAG 46? Thanks in advance!

I might try it than. I have the system under vacuum now for 24 hours. I had it down to 29hg and it’s holding steady at 22hg. Is that good enough? -

The fitting at the evaporator is ok. But the fitting at the compressor is cut. If i get a hose made it won’t have the fitting to mount at the compressor. -

I am in need of a low side A/C line for my 84 Brat. Someone replaced the hose but cut off the flange on the compressor and evaporator and secured the hose with 2 hose clamps on each end. Even though this is the low pressure line I’m assuming that the 2 hose clamps on each end will still cause leaking of R134A? I tried Ebay and rock auto but the hoses don’t seem to be made anymore. Anyone know of a source or can I get them made at a hose store? I don’t know what the end of the evaporator looks like because that was cut off to. So if I had the hoses made I would still need a new evaporator. I would like to replace everything but I don’t think that is going to happen. Any thoughts? Thank you -

84 brat EA81 a/c low side port?

On my 84 brat can someone tell me which port is the high and low side? I can’t find it on the web or the manual. I have 2 ports on the compressor and than I have another where the glass sight eye is. Thanks -
I’m going to call them Monday. I believe the error is on the manufacturer. When I put in 1984 brat GL it shows the correct dash cover. What I received was different. If I don’t need to send the others back I will gladly donate them for free if someone here can use them. I’ll keep everyone posted. Thank you

Throttle cable routing

I connected my cable like the red car pic above. Cable through firewall on drivers side and cable crosses over to passenger side under the spare tire. Seems ok and operates fine for now. My car is 83 with hitachi carb -
Throttle cable routing

Thank you for the pics. The 2 pics above are different. One the cable is on the right and the other the cable is on the left. I’m using the stock carb. -
Hi everyone On my 84 EA81 brat I need to replace my throttle cable. The wrong one was installed in the car. It was way too long and just looped around and zip tied under the spare tire. I now have the correct throttle cable I just cannot find a diagram anywhere on the internet to see how to run the cable the proper way in the engine bay. Does anybody have a picture or a diagram to show me how to run the cable?

Hi Guys... I need help finding a velour dash cover for my 1984 Subaru brat GL. I ordered one from covercraft dashmat and DashCare by Seatz. Neither of them fit my dash. I’m not sure why this is so hard. I just have a regular GL dash. I have a dark blue interior. Can someone who has a dash cover that fits their GL please post a pic of it on the dash and tell me where they ordered it. I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance!!!

Oh... should the valves always be set to the specs under the hood? Intake .010 and exhaust .014 -

I ordered a copy of HTKYSA off ebay. I’m waiting for it to arrive. Thanks for the reply. Im not going to worry about the lifters at this point. I adjusted the valves and I’ll see what happens next time I check them. Just seems like I hear them ticking. Maybe it’s normal with 100k miles. Not unbearable at all but it’s noticeable. -

I believe my 84 is original EA81. It is a manual car and I have the OHV solid mechanic lifters. My intake is now set to .010 and my exhaust is now set to .014. Should the valves “ALWAYS” be set to these specs? I really don’t think I need to replace the lifters. I only wanted to do it as a precaution since I was adjusting the Valves and inspecting the push rods. I know on other cars I never replaced the lifters without replacing the cam. I wasn’t sure if this was the same on the Subaru EA81. Do you think I will do more damage than good swapping out the old lifters for new ones using the original cam?
