Kits ! Bud, we are lucky to still be able to get some parts for this era vehicle, let alone a kit I have done a few different EA81 dedicated not dual fuel systems. I prefer to do it the hard way to get a bullet proof reliability using Impco simple converters, complex mixer set ups The easier way I have never seen On an EA81is the Euro Style with complex converter, simple mixer systems. These use an intake air stream gas ring to tack on , or rather, mid air stream before carb. Work better with EFI designs not carb. Not enough bonnet clearance to easily spud on a mixer ring between carb and air box unless it is a lifted Sube My first was on twin carb. Picture twins without air box I made an intake out of 50*100 SHS about 10" long cut hole for each carb top lip and each filter hold down stud was held in place from up top side with custom nuts that were topped with flat washer. The long nuts sat recessed inside the SHS with O ring sealing between flat washer and SHS it was that tight under the bonnet used pliers to remove flat washer topped nuts each end of SHS capped intake air and gas mix entered 90° at the front between carbs and radiator complex Impco 125 mixer was mounted custom again on to an AC mount. took jack out. Mounted VN Commodore air box in place thus air box enabled back fire spring mounted flap and redesign of PCV system and catch can i used a steering rack boots for its flexibility to get filtered air of body mounted air box to engine mounted Impco mixer brazed up the dizzy advance control limits a bit - only on the first one. Most theory for LPG conversions is based in V8 and the 60's and 70s Or maybe not doing this for #2 is what killed it at 120,000 km ?? Tank mounted in front, top side of rear tray. The bigger the better I reckon. One litre of LPG weighs about 70% of most wet petrols. Also only has about 80% the energy in pre ULP theory 100 litre water capacity tank holds 80 of LPG i ran out at 720 km - ONCE coz needle stuck just above E

New engine was complete with carb and dizzy from sound of things. Good to see it fired up and none of the old Fink's issues carry over. It is a right pain when that happens !!

It can be tricky sending items. Both parties need to trust each other and keep the communication stream alive. I recently sent a PS set up, using multinational carrier with insurance and sign for delivery. All items had been drained several times, nothing dribbled out. All holes were taped up, items double bagged and all zip ties inside the ribs of a Korean plastic pallet, all shrink wrapped in clear. At the send depot the package was inspected, all items declared. Then online tracking showed it was not delivered as scheduled for Monday. Tuesday I call and was told there was an address problem. Call the buyer, who asks if carrier rang me about oil damage to package. Buyer had also done tracking, seen the delay and enquired The carrier had not contacted either of us. Someone was upset package was leaking oil. As long as we were happy it was not damaged, delivery Wednesday Wednesday, comes and buyer finds out carrier refuses to load it on for days delivery run. Buyer had to go collect package himself, to find two 5¢ piece spots of water soluble "oil" on the inside of the plastic wrap visible The carrier failed to deliver, failed to contact sender or receiver because they or their staff/ contractors still had a problem with it. Despite phone discussions it took two days to work out their problem If only I had wrapped some absorbing material also around items before double wrapping. It can be a pain wrapping bulky and heavy items in order for safe delivery and transport, then to have humans fudge up the plan

Good one! I cut that corner out of floor mats and sometimes use an anti slip grip mat under floor mat. Amazing how many horsies those mats can take out of manual transmission too

I have a full rebuild sitting beside my mongrel I am tempted to also slap a turbo on - already has the heads, so two spare engines sitting ...side by side gathering dust

Another thought...my 85 turbo sedans had a few what looked like unmatched loom plugs sitting injected to nothing around firewall, brake master They are line end check terminals I think were used at the end of assembly line to check all was fine and dandy Not sure if my 87 Vortex ( turbo of course ) has these. Would be handy to know and read outputs of healthy car. -

Funny, the factory manual mentions rear wheel alignment but fails to describe how it is adjusted. Maybe shims somewhere ?? I asked at a reliable joint but never done one before, willing to give it a look see - if I could wait out their two week wait !! -

Need to look at why most recent report of erratic compression is there. Erratic suggests a tech got different results for same cylinder(s) unable to work out why Reminds me of an EA82T that a guy had trouble with , similar sounding problem made worse by boost An ER27 should have been labelled as EA27 as it is just an extended fuel injected EA82 I ended up with the heads of that never sorted EA82T and found worn valve guide causing one valve to likely get stuck off centre from random ( or erratic) time to time I think with time and effort you ( in your overalls) will isolate at least one cause to one of six cylinders. Unless you have buckets of coin to keep throwing at it, might be best you learn inhere, step by step, and makes friends with all the ER27 guys in here. Once you involve a third party, makes it hard to guide you -

I have once or twice had a rocker on EA82 slip out on assembly cause grief before start up but do to think this it problem. Cylinder leak down test. Google the theory and process -

Oh, sugar, the er0tic and adult content warning was applicable on that link ! Should have read it first ! From here on in, anyone that tests something, have them record the result for you to post up and compare to specs Ask for a link to online manuals if you don't have already in some form Someone may have missed something I didn't see comp test done or results EDIT until second read "erratic engine compression" OK. Need to do this yourself. Buy a compression gauge, maybe a thin wall plug socket 3/4" or hope someone fitted 5/8" plugs If you want, ship it to me, I'm up for a challenge -

Need to analyse stuff before throwing stuff at it ( mind you, I know a mechanic with 50 years on the job still does this !) Do you want to buy tools to learn or want to take it to a workshop and pay them? Hard start you describe sounds like an old fuel pump on its way out, as well as possible blockages in fuel filters etc as Dee pointed out as I picked this text out on my tablet Need to start somewhere I would T in a fuel pressure /oil pressure gauge after fuel filter and observe...basically looking for 36 psi You could pay a shop to just do this. If a pump is to be replaced is best and for warranty, to clean out tank and or fit a prefilter to save new pump from getting old tank spoob First thing last, so many find the first step for a check up Learn to do a cylinder compression test on everything, even daily driver going well. It even beats OBD2 diagnostic systems on many cars. I even check my whipper snipper, lawn mower and blower and record results. Learn cold, operating temp, add oil company tests If I could do a signature in this forum I think it would read "Do a compression test and report back" -
shaft play in such a precision mechanical unit causes all sorts of crap. So you have trouble believing the advice? If it has been found it is likely a first step. If in Oz I think Michael of Advanced Diaphragm Options in Queensland can overhaul your distributor or know someone who can. Google distributor overhaul This beast has 30 years on it and likely needs some basic preventative maintenance and replacement of plugs, leads, cap, rotor etc. Being 88 it is not points dizzy or should not be so check it is electronic and see the shaft play yourself If you are calling it a Brumby , must be in Oz? Postcode? Check out www.rockauto.com Use 1984 for search year of Subaru, choose Brat non turbo or at least a 4WD variant DL ? Ignition category and see if you can find a dizzy Change the currency thing up top to your currency Get a postage quote once you put item in shopping trolley

Going to quote you on that ! Glad you figured it out. Now, not just a belt, go both belts and tensioners But before buying parts check integrity of tensioner bolts in case some tool has tensioned them beyond their rather low ..18 ? ft/lbs and stuffed the threads. Maybe pull the four bolts, inspect all threads, bolts and holes, tension up .

WooHoo ! Did the new pump warranty card insist tank be cleaned prior to using new pump or no warranty if pump fails?

Where are all the timing belt suggesters? Has it done the dizzy side timing belt? You need to pull dist cap off If auto , secure cap away from potentially spinning rotor , note rotor position, try start engine by key, has rotor moved or can you see it not move? If manual, you can put it in 5th, hand brake off and push car back or forward in gear handbrake off , engine turns, but is rotor also?

Yep 12 mm head M8 1.25 pitch 13 mm of thread then 5 mm no thread where spring washer goes and bit bare no thread shaft of bolt sits inside clutch pressure plate Aftermarket bolts of this thread often come with 13 mm head instead of 12 mm -

I think they are a pretty standard thread M8 1.25 -
Dave T is correct in naming that damper. When I used a Nissan 3.0 litre turbo variant pump it lacked the damper. I had no problems at all

I store my spares after a dose of crc556 sprayed through them. Still to test my ways though ....
