Evening all. got myself a 1985 digital dash for my 1986 xt im super pleased. ive also got the digital fuel sender and min oil pressure switch However, I didn’t realise it has a unique wiring harness. I only have the original analog harness. has anybody got one I can buy of them? im in UK, happy to pay for worldwide shipping. Someone must have one.....please..
  2. Hi guys. I’m back. Sorry lve not been giving updates. But I’m having problems with this website.. And none of the admin answer my login problems.. and I’m still paying $5 per month.. Anyway.. My XT is coming along well. The front end is now all done. I had extensive rust on the rockers (sills) And the box section under the floor. Lots of upside welding and plate fabrication Now it’s rock solid. It’s all been sprayed, underneath, inner fenders and engine bay. Epoxy primer ( raptor Seal where appropriate to) basecoat and clearcote. Correct 572 metallic space blue. Part of the original 518 dual paint code. The engine as only 63k miles is going back in basically untouched. Apart from filters, belts etc. All the suspension is galvanised or plated. All bushes replaced.. NEW pair of air struts too!! So now I’m rebuilding the front end. I’m very happy with the work I’ve put in. Unfortunately I can’t upload any pics under this login, ( I’ll message admin again) Also, I’ve dumped the 3EAT auto ( I was never happy about 3 speed ) for a 5 speed push button 4wd Manual I’ve also got a proper new XT AC setup, which I’m installing too. And to top it all, I have a digital dash too. I’ll fit that another time. Hope you are all good. I’m part of the XT groups on Facebook. I know some of you guys are to, I find them very helpful and recommend them. G.

  5. Evening guys. all going very well with my XT. ive still not worked out how to post pics yet. I’ll sort it tho. rear end almost finished. one scratch made, wheel arch left to weld on. ive painted the underside from the cabin floor back. its looking amazing. i used epoxy primer over 100% clean steel . No rust left at all. them I used the original colour 518 basecoat and sprayed 2K Clear the inner wheel arches I used epoxy primer and upol Raptor ( in 518) for stone chip protection. ive started to reattach some of the components removed. But I need to make a new fuel pump bracket. I’ll make one in stainless steel my worldwide search for NEW rear air struts continues. But I’ve cleaned my old ones up to re use until I find new. im really happy with the work so far. just a shame I can’t post anymore pics at the moment. once I’ve reattached all the suspension I’ll move to the front. i have a good front wing ( fender) in its way from USA. there is a lot less work on the front, but lots of rust where the front tie rods attach to the body. I’ll strip all suspension re bush and refurbish the brake callipers. I’ll use a pair on my new (old stock) air struts.. Yay! Ill also galvanise / electroplate everything I can, including the engine subframe. sparkyboy, you were going to send me some pics of your interior. you managed to take them yet? what head unit you using? karmasrenegade97 welcome to the thread. welcome to the wonderful world of the XT im a novice to.. but learning quickly. The air suspension is the Achilles heal of these cars. I assume yours is in working condition? If so .. leave well alone your options for replacement are harsh. as I’m finding out.

  7. As I say. i have no idea yet as to the working of the air struts. what you say makes perfect sense, regarding hi and low internal switch. i don’t have a FSM for the car. would love the pages on Air suspension emailed sometime. g.

Hi Dan ( can I use real names!) im still after the elusive new old stock rears.. as I have for for the fronts so I’ll keep hunting. the ones on my car as serviceable for now. but I will get used as spares in future if I can’t find new. I’ve had several offers... thanks guys. any of you know if I can get custom made rears to work of original set up. i don’t know how the air struts work yet.. I know it’s just compressed air... not rocket science. each rear has a solenoid with electric conection: to open the air ‘in’ valve I assume. how do they exhaust air? what are the 2 cables going inside the unit for? thanks for the air lines Dan. Afternoon guys. hope your all well. here are some pics of progress to date. ive finished welding underneath (rear) ive cut out the rear wheel arches and some inner arch too. i had to use the rubber wind deflectors as my template to remake wheel arches As rust has eaten the metal away behind them! i very happy with the results ill have them welded up next week and hope to weld in place next week. finally the rear bodywork is nearing an end.

  12. evening boys. i had a disaster today. i managed to cut through an air suspension pipe with my cutting disc. i know it’s not the end of the world, but I’d appreciate any advice about splicing the pipe back together. i think it’s about 4mm OD. thanks in advance. Giles.

  14. Evening guys. Bennie, I’m not sure what you mean by dash trim... Can I see a pic please? some of my air vents are missing blades.. is this what you mean? Sparkyboy... id love to see your audio set up... can I see some pics please . what headunit and speakers? 2 or 4 speakers? yes, I am getting through the parts list. I’m constantly trawling eBay. did you say there are a couple or scrapers near you? why you changing the engine ej22? this a trick I not know about.... G.

I’ve got some before and after pics for you we all love them. dont expect miracles it’s a long process The bottom pic is of my most prized possessions... one of 2 brand new (old stock) front air struts.. imported from USA! anyone got a pair of rears they want to sell?

Morning guys. lovely day here on the coast of Wales. today, I need to add metal to my rusty sills ( rockers) and rebuild rear suspension attachments. my welding skills are improving i hope not to burn myself to much today #upsidedownwelding i have to weld these pieces in ( see pics) ive cut out all rust, removed surface rust with acid. Today I will start to tack the metal in place and fabricate other pieces. its quite a lot of work to shape and bend the metal. Plus not losing any lines or dimensions. ive already done the other side. so this is less daunting. After ive repaired this section the rear underside is fully repaired. Behind the cabin floor pan. i will epoxy prime, base coat in correct 572 space metallic blue and 2k clear. (my car was originally painted 518, blue and white, i’ll respray whole car original colour in future.) i can think about reattaching the rear refurbished suspension and brakes to the car. i still have the rear wheel arches to do too...
  17. Evening boys. i agree this thread is a font of knowledge. Sparkyboy are you asking me about my wing and chrome? my car has no wing ( rear spoiler, we call them over here) I’d love one if your thinking of moulding them, an original copy. There are no filled holes in my trunk (boot) lid. I don’t think they were fitted in the UK. I posted some pics ages ago, did you see then? There is also no chrome on my car ( except inner door handles) what chrome do you mean Sparkyboy? This weekend I’m finishing welding rear right side subframe mount to body. not easy welding underneath with little experience... my arms are burnt with molten metal drips... do I really need a rotisserie ..... not yet.... i see the New Old stock front struts have sold out on eBay. I hope some guys here got lucky, they were a bargain. btw.. I will change the oil in the lsd while the rear drive is still on my bench, what should use . I like redline 75w90ns. Should I pack more Grease into the UV joints. Tho I’m not sure I can peel back the rubber bellows advice please boys.... btw. I’m after the double Din stereo fitted to later xt’s (xt6 to). With a graphic equaliser.. anybody got one in great condition? G.

Hi Bennie. the square cut section is one of the air strut supports inside rear wheel arch. the galvanised rail, is the rear bumper frame. ive learned over the years..... rather than struggle with cleaning separate pieces.. send them away for acid dipping and plating. Still remarkably cheap to. The round metal is new stainless steel rear brake disc ( rotor) covers. there is a pic of dismantled and cleaned rear brake callipers to. G.
  21. I need mainly.. a pair of rear air struts (new) a front right hand side wing ( fender) i could repair the one I have. and that’s about it really. CAN ANYONE HELP with above? Rest I wanted I have , or is on its way. See brand new door ! Mine is okay.. but I couldn’t leave it go. Only £150 too
  22. These pics are a couple of weeks old. ive nearly finished the back structural work. i hope to have the back suspension back on by the end of the month. ideally with new air struts.. I already have most new bushes! I’m scouring the world looking for new rear struts the ones on the car are fine, but it’s only a matter of time... then i’ll Start the rear wheel arches. move onto the front then. which is in much better condition i bought 3 new old stock front struts . im delighted . all left hand side. But I’ll modify for right. Plus a spare to future proof the car. my welding is improving.. and my neighbours haven’t yet complained about the constant grinding! most nuts and bolts and things I can strip down have been electroplated or galvanised its wet here in Wales!
