  1. The difference the Saturn cult doesn't last. Back in the late 90's it seemed everyone I knew was buying a Saturn. Some even bought two. Their devotion to these bland cars was rather creepy. Not one of them still owns a Saturn. All the people I know who drove a Subaru back then still drive one. It's the difference between Saturn’s brilliant marketing and Subaru’s brilliant engineering.
  2. Here's another link... http://www.legacycentral.org/library/transmission/convert.htm good luck and keep us posted if you do it.
  3. I would say yes. I can't say if the difference in years would present any problems though. Several people have done 5 speed swap and a few have good web pages on the whole procedure. Here's the only one I saved the link from... http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap/swap.html (If the auto on my 91 wagon ever goes I will also be swapping in a 5 speed.)
  4. I wouldn't say they are a no no. In my driveway is a 91 Legacy wagon LS, a 95 Grand Cherokee Laredo and (most of the time) my brothers 90 YJ (complete with 4 inch lift, 1 inch body lift, 33's and a locker). I love my trusty old Legacy but it won't tow my travel trailer like the Grand will and it could never take the off road abuse my brother has given that old YJ in the last 10 years. P.S. I sure could have used that 5.9 V8 in my Grand last summer going through the mountain passes on the Coquihalla Hwy with my trailer.
  5. Is that group for real?!?!?! That's the most absurb group of complainers that have seen in a long time. We've have daytime running lights in Canada for at least 15 years and NONE of their complaints are valid. If you find the lights bright and annoying, how do you drive at night? What really annoys them is someone brought in a rule they don't like.
  6. My sister bought the same car about a month ago in Vancouver and $1000 off is all she could manage too.
  7. Go to a brake specialty shop and ask them if the turn the rotors (machine them). If they are not too far out they should be able to machine them far cheaper then replacing them. ABS brakes shouldn't cause any vibration unless you are on the brakes hard enough to get the tires to lock up.
  8. When you say 30 mpg , are you using US gallons or Imperial gallons. Using Imperial gallons (what I grew up with), I get 30 to 35 mpg with my 91 Legacy. That works out to 24 to 28 US. In metric 9 to 10 L/100 km.
  9. My gas guage works fine, it's just off by a third. It will only take 40 litres if I fill up when it's fully on empty and it's a 60L tank. I don't know if the light works, I've yet to have the nerve to let it go that low. I've read somewhere that you can fix it by removing the sender and cleaning it. Has anyone done this?
  10. My sister bought a Forester X SE last month in Vancouver. She didn't get a rebate but they did come down a grand on the price. I thought it was a pretty good deal as the special edition comes with some pretty good stuff including the biggest sunroof I have ever seen.
  11. Here's that like... don't buy tires without it!! http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html
  12. It must be the rust. Here in BC they are surprisingly common but to be honest I never noticed them until I bought one. They don't really stand out like the Outbacks and the Foresters.
  13. I used to buy expensive cars and then I had kids. The kids are cheap but it's the accessories that will kill you. The only cars I have put platinums plugs in were cars that were really hard to change the plugs.
  14. From what I was told, the suspension computer monitors all 4 struts. If they are not at the right height, it runs the compressor until they are. If it doesn't get the correct height signal within 10 minutes or so, it creates a fault, turns the warning light on the dash on and turns the compressor off. I would assume if 2 of the struts were missing it would never get the signal it wants and would always create a fault. It might work but you might also just find the 2 remaining air struts defalting all the time. On mine, I just picked up a couple used air struts from the junkyard.
  15. Isn't your argument based on the same flaw then? Someone put it in a book and called it religion.... then it must be true.
  16. I fell victim to the same thing that most of the masses fall to. If you put it in a book and call it Science...then it must be true. Isn't your argument based on the same flaw then? Someone put it in a book and called it religion.... then it must be true.
  17. I still lean towards the alien colony ships as being the start of mankind. That way I can believe my great-great-great grandfather was a Jedi Knight. You may think it sounds silly but it keeps me amused while I sit here at work bored out of my skull.
  18. That explains the great price, this is what those go for around here... http://www.buysell.com/root/details/43612521/2002_Import_SUVs/cc/_2002_SUBARU_FORESTER_43612521.html has anyone here ever bought a repaired write off? Did you have any problems?
  19. Just nail the gas at any light. When I had the FWD fuse in my 91 Legacy, it would spin the front tires for at least 5 to 10 feet on dry pavement and all the way through 1st gear in the wet. In all wheel drive it won't spin them at all, even in the rain.
  20. I had a leaky tire last week and after reading all this I decided to put the FWD fuse in rather the risk damage. Out of curiousity I left the fuse in for a week after I fixed the tire to see what difference there was. On the highway, no difference. It felt exactly the same. Our town, much worse. I'm tired of the torque steer and the tire spinning in the rain (a common occurrance in Vancouver). Mileage... Since I bought the car in febuary it has been very consistant at 9.5 to 10.0 L/100km (25- 25 mpg US gallon). In 2wd this week I averaged 9.8L/ 100km driving the exact same route I do every week. No advantage there. I'm happy to be back in 4wd now.
  21. My guess would be the O2 sensor. When I bought my 91 Trooper a few years ago it ran great but got 12 mpg and pegged the meter on Hydrocarbons when I tried to get it aircared. I changed the O2 sensor on a suggestion of a friend and I aced emmisions and my mileage jumped to 18 mpg. Cheap fix if it works. Good luck
  22. As far as I know it was only on the Legacy LS wagon with the automatic transmisson from 90 to 94. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
  23. I just push a button on the dash and up it goes an inch or two. Any higher and I need to get out the floor jack. I suppose if you were realy determined you could retrofit an air suspension to your car but I wouldn't recommend it. Parts are really expensive when they start to go. They were found in some 90 to 94 Legacys.
