My Subaru helps make movies
Mitchy replied to FutureSite's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hi! Our Forester has featured in a few film shoots. It has also had a camera or two rigged to it! I too work in film, I am a camera Grip. I can see the attraction of a Scoob for the locations dept! -
Hola Thanks, the Vivio is hilarious, it gets ‘grunty’ from 4500rpm up to 8000, but too noisy for daily use I have discovered...Then in the wet you can engage the 4WD (button on gearstick) at any speed entering an impossible curve and leave everyone wondering how the ‘h’ you did that. But it encourages bad behaviour. I like a roof rack on my cars, the Vivio has no roof option so I drilled and fitted some cut-down VW Passat wagon rails. The Leggy may get similar treatment- shame- that naked roof is immaculate! With the bars it makes a good sturdy rack. so far the annual Tech inspection has not noticed the DIY job. They’re really really strict with ANY non homologated mods in Spain. I find that cleaning my cars top and bottom and inside and outside blinds the inspectors to any ‘naughty behaviour’. Cars are generally not well maintained here, so a well maintained ‘exotic’ (hardly any Subarus on my island) is a break from the norm, and the inspectors appreciate it! The roof bars are for Kayak and ‘off grid’ things like solar panels, wood, scaffold towers and the like, though I try to use the beaten Forester for that sort of thing! Here’s the Vivio taking a break in Gibraltar after a long long drive;

Just need to find a decent roof rack for the Legacy’s naked roof, no fix points, no rails!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I dig my Scoobs with no alarms, no bells, and the most advanced part on all three is the Legacy’s remote door lock which only works at arm’s-length distance from the car! (If the angle is right and the glass is not to dirty) Here is the trio; Vivio and Forester in the queue for oil and filters

Sweet! I know this post is a year old but I’m just getting my teeth into lifting my newly acquired super clean 97 sedan. I’m quickly realizing that there are not too many lifted versions. The Legacy will only go about 1 1/2 inches higher, enough to clear the rocks in our track anyway. Where can I find more posts of your Sedan? Thanks for sharing

?? Outback suspension on Legacy Sedan 1997 ??

Brilliant offering, just what I was hoping for! As well as the springs can I use the Legacy strut tops? Is there any strut difference between Outback models? ie, 2wd and 4wd? I noticed one leaking strut at left-rear, so I’ll be replacing them all soon, being 22 years old and all. Thank you again for your help. -
Hi all Having just bought a 1997 Legacy 2.2i 4WD sedan, I see the need to lift it. my first thought is to use strut spacers to lift the body on the struts some 30mm. Not much, but enough for my needs. This route requires not much more than some tweaking of the camber angles, and possibly a rear trailing arm lift too. Otherwise I am looking at compatibility between similar age Outback or Forester SF struts. Could that be an option? I wish to go from this: To this: Many thanks in advance Mitchy

Thank you So far I have been looking over my Leggy in more detail. Nothing bad so far, and 4000km added since I bought it. Oil and filters I changed yesterday, and earlier this week I replaced the 15” alloys with 14” steelies, (ugly) VW type, and fitted using hub centric rings. I’m now running on new 195/70 r14 Firestone Multihawk 2 tires, with much more sidewall than the worn Michelin 195/60 r15 they have replaced: -much happier on our track now and no noticeable difference on the asphalt! Next up is the mild suspension lift for clearance as this Legacy sits low: I’m going to test fit some cheapo HDPE strut spacers to see how it feels, and then see what my options are regarding taller struts or Subtle Solutions Aluminium spacers which I have been using on the Forester for years. I’m not certain if a set of Outback suspension will fit without modifications, can anyone help there? I’m going for this ride height: Other than that, a group N transmission mount will go in (the Forester has one fitted and it makes a big difference) to keep the tranny a little more secure. This car has huge potential as a daily runner for 90% road and 10% track...Great fun. thanks!

Hi all - my second post here! Introducing our newly acquired, 22 year old Legacy Sedan, to compliment our ‘99 Forester workhorse. Super cheap (for here), super well maintained with only 90,000 miles. Original Dark blue Pearl paint, perfect upholstery, belts changed at 60k, regular services under its one owner, clean oils all around, and four tyres of the same model and Michelin brand, a comfort after my first Subaru purchase (Forester SF) required a new centre diff due to mis-matched tyres. I picked it up cheap as the vendor did not even know it was AWD. He wondered why I had asked for photos amongst others, of the underside of the rear end. When told him ‘differential’ he replied ‘its front wheel drive...’ when I answered ‘yes, as well ‘ his jaw dropped as he realised that he’d greatly underpriced this ageing, apparently unexciting generic Japanese sedan by quite a bit. I did not haggle, to be fair to him.... Anyway, as in the vendor’s description, it runs like new, makes the right noises under all conditions, and is a pure joy to drive. I’m fresh in love with the EJ22. To me its main fault is that it is a bit low to the ground, so a little 1” lift will be made soon. Thanks for looking.
