  1. Does anyone have an idea on how to add an intermittent wiper to the REAR wiper of a 2000 Forester L ? The rear window hardly ever gets wet enough for constant use of the wiper and I have to keep shutting it off and on by hand. Thanks in advance for your help. ~Howard
  2. WOW........... This was the most I've ever spent on one single car repair. A bit over $1,400. That's with tax and a new NAPA 65 month (550 CCA) battery too. But the car is running fine and it's better than spending for a new one. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. ~Howard
  3. The end of the story is my mechanic is replacing the cat and both O2 sensors. The cat may have been damaged this summer when the ignition coil went south and the car was backfiring. All parts will be Subaru. ~Howard
  4. What I neglected to say was that 5 years ago I was rear ended in the Forester. The Pontiac Gran Prix went under my car; wiping out the exhaust system. At that time I was told there was no damage to the cat. The muffler, tailpipe and some trim piece had to be replaced. I believe that the impact may have shortened the life span of the cat. If the cat does in fact need replacement, my mechanic has said he has had no luck with the aftermarket cats and to stick with Subie. Comments please. ~Howard
  5. I have a 2000 Forester L. 66K miles. I had the CEL code pulled by Auto Zone. It's a P0420. My mechanic tells me I need a new cat converter. He highly suggests a new one from Subaru; not an aftermaket brand. $750 plus labor. I used this guy for quite a few years and I trust him. Does anyone have any hints/tips for this code. Thanks in advance for your help. ~Howard
  6. I went browsing around the local auto parts store and found 3M Professional Fuel Injector Cleaner. I gave it a shot and it truly works! My 2000 Forester seems like it has better pick up. I picked up the product at Strauss Auto and it was around $7.00 for a 16 oz. bottle. ~Howard
  7. My wife managed to pick up one of the caps and ordered another from the dealer. No biggie cost wise. Under $4.00 for the two with tax. ~Howard
  8. That's not a bad idea. I have some Form A Gasket Stuff around here somewhere. I'm sending my wife to the local Subie dealer on Tuesday to see about new parts. She has to be around that area anyway. I'm not going to drive myself nutz finding these parts. I thought about going to a junk yard. But everytime I go to one they never have what I need and never offer to locate the part for me. The clock ? IT'S STILL RUNNING A-OK ! ~Howard
  9. On my 2000 Forester at the windshield end of the wiper arms there is a rubber cap which covers a bolt. Both caps have lost their elasticity and are just sitting there ready to fall off. Questions: What is the part number of these caps? Does anyone have any extras that I can purchase ? Thanks in advance for your assistance. ~Howard
  10. Can someone please tell me where the turn signal flasher is located on a 2000 Forester ? Thanks in advance for your help ! ~Howard
  11. I have a hole in my carpet in my 2000 Forester. It's near the gas pedal. Does anyone have any suggestions for a repair. I don't want to replace the entire carpet. Thanks in advance for your help ~Howard
  12. I had the SAME problem on my 2000 Forester. The CEL code was P0303 (Misfire #1). I needed new wires and a new ignition coil. All were replaced with Subaru parts. The Forester is better now and runs like new. My mechanic is a bit richer too...........$500.00. ~Howard
  13. OB99W: I'm not in a panic . I just don't want to get stuck somewhere at night. The noise is not very loud and you really have to listen for it. Question: Can I get my mechanic to test the alternator? Would that show anything? It's still working and charging the battery. ~Howard
  14. OB99W: Does that mean my alternator is going bad or is this "normal" ? ~Howard
  15. Anyone ever hear of them ? I can't find their web site. ~Howard
  16. I'd stick with the Subie. Parts are cheaper compared with the Volvo. Don't get me wrong Volvos are nice but in the long run you would be happier with a Subaru. ~Howard
  17. HELP I've been having a strange problem with my 2000 Forester. When I accelerate I get a whistling sound. It seems to vanish once the car warms up a bit. Everything seems to be functioning OK but this noise really bugs me. Could it be a small leak in the muffler ? Anyone have a clue what this might be ? Thanks in advance for your help ! ~Howard
  18. HOHIEU: You have to be conservative in your interpretation and make sure your person brushes up on any special rules that might apply to your unique situation (fellowships, etc) ~Howard
  19. I'd like to add a voltage meter to my 2000 Forester. Anyone have suggestions on how to easily add one ? Thanks ! ~Howard
