What I neglected to say was that 5 years ago I was rear ended in the Forester. The Pontiac Gran Prix went under my car; wiping out the exhaust system. At that time I was told there was no damage to the cat. The muffler, tailpipe and some trim piece had to be replaced. I believe that the impact may have shortened the life span of the cat. If the cat does in fact need replacement, my mechanic has said he has had no luck with the aftermarket cats and to stick with Subie. Comments please. ~Howard

I have a 2000 Forester L. 66K miles. I had the CEL code pulled by Auto Zone. It's a P0420. My mechanic tells me I need a new cat converter. He highly suggests a new one from Subaru; not an aftermaket brand. $750 plus labor. I used this guy for quite a few years and I trust him. Does anyone have any hints/tips for this code. Thanks in advance for your help. ~Howard

That's not a bad idea. I have some Form A Gasket Stuff around here somewhere. I'm sending my wife to the local Subie dealer on Tuesday to see about new parts. She has to be around that area anyway. I'm not going to drive myself nutz finding these parts. I thought about going to a junk yard. But everytime I go to one they never have what I need and never offer to locate the part for me. The clock ? IT'S STILL RUNNING A-OK ! ~Howard

On my 2000 Forester at the windshield end of the wiper arms there is a rubber cap which covers a bolt. Both caps have lost their elasticity and are just sitting there ready to fall off. Questions: What is the part number of these caps? Does anyone have any extras that I can purchase ? Thanks in advance for your assistance. ~Howard

HELP I've been having a strange problem with my 2000 Forester. When I accelerate I get a whistling sound. It seems to vanish once the car warms up a bit. Everything seems to be functioning OK but this noise really bugs me. Could it be a small leak in the muffler ? Anyone have a clue what this might be ? Thanks in advance for your help ! ~Howard
