  1. Hey Kyle... I just got an e-mail a couple weeks ago saying the springs STILL weren't shipped out but they were working on it. Some legal crap but I suppose by now they're probably coming. You can have my Outback struts FOR A SMALL FEE hahaha. Hopefully we can make this whole she-bang a combination off-road curvy-cruise. Maybe by then I'll have an XT... if not I'm bringing the Touring wagon, especially if there will be wheeling to be had. OR if I have that Aussie d/r in the Outback and skid plates as well I'll bring it. So many possibilities...
  2. As of right now i have a broken collar bone but should be better in a few weeks. Can't wait to get the touring wagon out on some trails.
  3. Somebody sticky this. I found an ethanol-free gas station near me and filled up on it. Within 20 miles... there's where all that damn power went!!! Man this thing's running like it did when I bought it 50,000 miles ago!!! I'm seriously considering stocking up on regular gas and storing it in a tank...
  4. I'm not afraid of some minor trails. I SHOULD have either my '89 GL finished by then (reseal and new headgaskets) or King Springs on my Outback. The GL is pretty damn capable. I'd like to get muddy somewhere though.
  5. If I can remember to check back to this thread then I'll be down. Or you could post something in the SE group thingy.
  6. Would you mind driving a stick? If you could find a '96 with a 5spd, it'll have the non-interference EJ22 (no headgasket issues). OR you could go for a regular Legacy '95 or '96 (I stick with non-interference myself, that's why I don't like anything '97 or higher). The regular Legacy's didn't have the raised roof or raised suspension but you'd be looking at the same amount of room. Have you considered the first gen Legacy's? They're fairly roomy, maybe only lacking a couple cubic feet of cargo space.
  7. Was going to go with a snorkel at first and spent over $100 in crap to do it and realized there was just no way of doing it without it looking like a redneck piece of trash. SO I would like to have a cone air filter located JUST behind the throttle body. So far I have a piece of 3" flexible intake hose, a cone air filter, a pcv valve system plug-in thingy, and the wrong MAF sensor adapter. Has anybody else tried this? There's a bunch of different hoses associated with pcv and they seem to have a method to their madness... could I simplify it and just hook them all together and hook them into the intake? And there's also a big bastard hose that hooks into the intake closer to the MAF sensor. And does anybody have a part number for the right MAF sensor adapter part? I've searched and searched and can't find one. Apparently nobody's ever put a cold air intake on an EJ22 EVER. OR I could just stick that box back in the fender (is there an easy way of doing that? getting the fender off was a real pain) if that's the best way to keep water out. I drove through some pretty deep water (lapping at the end of the hood, headlights completely underwater) and I don't think any water got sucked in although it sure did seem like it was bogging towards the end of the pond. And also... how does water get into the transaxle? The dip-stick hole? Are there any vents like on the diff? I just want something I can take in headlight deep water on a regular basis and not have to worry about anything. Sorry for the oh so long thread.
  8. What a suprise seeing you here too!!! lol. Welcome to the board! LOTS of great information here.
  9. Drove mine through some deep water (lapping at the end of the hood, headlights submerged) and had to drain the rear diff AND transmission grease. $80 of fluids later she's good to go. I'll post pics when I get the front and rear vents done and the snorkel.
  10. TN here. I'd be awesome to get some of the other SE owners together (who had something at least half-way offroad capable) and have a big Jeep trail meet or something.
  11. Ahhh Murphy the $500 T-wag right? I think I at one point in time owned a car almost identical that I also paid $500 for. FT4WD 4spd auto. It was overheating when I bought it, new thermostat and radiator later I turned around and made a couple hundred dollars profit. Kinda miss it, ran pretty strong. Wonder if it's still driving around.... anyway good luck with getting Murphy back on the road!! He's been reliable for this long... some new head gaskets and he should be good to go for at least a few more years.
  12. Did I see you on Kingston Pike on the battlewagon? Spare tire on top right?

  13. Somewhere here there's a thread on how to put the low range out of the EA82 d/r into the EJ d/r. I've got an EJ d/r originally from Australia and an EA82 d/r and am going to try it out this summer. It's a 3.9 final drive so I'll have to swap out the rear diff for a regular Legacys. I don't mind losing my 4.11, what good is it anyway if it can't get you up a steep hill or keep your revs below 3K at 70???
  14. Glass-pack on the Outback today. It sounds alright, I just wanted to hear the engine instead of having to glance at the tac ever so often.
  15. Who sold this thing to you? All you care about is cupholders, you didn't even know it was 4wd... somebody has commited Subaru sin by selling a Roo like that to somebody who has no idea what it even is. Hopefully being a member of this board will turn that around...
  16. Yeah these engines are becoming quite difficult to come by. I'll try to use some emory cloth on it and just not worry about it. I leaked so much oil it was hard to tell what it was burning and what it was leaking. Didn't smoke so I'm guessing it should be alright, especially after rubbing it down a tad.
  17. Hey I'm over here in Eastern Tennessee. Still a little distance between us but welcome fellow Southeastern Subaru-er!!!
  18. Don't have any pics as I don't have a camera. There's a line that runs up and down with the piston. It's a black line and I CAN feel it when I run my finger over it. Otherwise the cylinder walls look fine. That particular cylinder (minus the strange mark) doesn't look any different from any of the others. Could this be a sign of a problem?
  19. My 1996 Outback tops out at 110mph. Stock exhaust, even still has BOTH cats. I think with some opened up exhaust and maybe even a little rework to the heads should hit 120 ya think? Mine's a 5spd. Anyway back on subject. In the process of doing a complete reseal on my 5spd d/r EA82 TOURING wagon. Recently I've been driving it more, way more fun to drive than the Outback. May retire the Outback for a while after I get this beast in PERFECT running order. Maybe even stick the sway-bar rear end I've got sitting around under there. And some disc brakes MAYBE. My aunt will probably end up with this car, she's in desperate need for a Soob. I may keep all these extra parts for a wagon of my own... so many possibilities. I love it.
  20. After falling in love with my '82 GL wagon and better getting to know my '89 touring wagon, I've decided I will be selling my Outback and whatever money I get out of it I will put into rebuilding the EA81 in the GL and possibly doing an EJ22 swap on the touring wagon. These cars are just so much more fun to drive. I'm also not a big fan of full time AWD. Understeer + body roll = MY HAIR IS TURNING GREY ALREADY? Anybody have the same opinion on newer Subarus?
  21. Sent you a PM about something you might be interested in.
  22. I had an '89 just like that. You'll get 36mpg pretty regularly on the highway if you keep the RPMs around 3k. I think that puts you at about 65mph. Great little run-around car.
