  1. Driving my GL compared to my Outback, I would definitely say the GL cuts through the air better. It also gets about 4mpg better on the highway. I managed 41mpg in my EA82 sedan once, I wouldn't be suprised if you got that out of a 2wd spfi 5spd wagon.
  2. I might be interested. Where is deer island? I'm GUESSING it's somewhere in the NW... Does anybody have any idea if a brush guard off, say, an s-10 would work? Checking Craigslist for custom bumpers in the auto parts section and I'm liking what I see... but will any of it work? Anybody tried this?
  3. Anybody know of a good source for aftermarket heavy-duty bumpers? I've had so many close calls in my '96 Outback with deer I'd like some protection. I LOVE the bullbars like the ones seen on the Australian boards. The ones on SubaXtreme are pretty much what I want but does anybody know if something like that can be had in the states? Worse comes to worse I'll have one fabbed. Would rather find a manufacturer though... something tells me that won't happen though.
  4. Me and my dad changed the oil in his '93 Camry when we first got it. He drained the oil, changed the filter, put the plug back in and filled it back up. He ended up blowing most of the oil seals out of the engine and fried the transmission. He drained the transmission by accident.
  5. Is the truck 4wd? I've had dualie diesel Dodges up to 120, far more stable than any car. Is that really a suprise? And if something's wrong, go check it out. Everybody here has recommended checking suspension bushings and struts yet you've apparently done nothing.
  6. Why wouldn't you just convert it to AWD?? OR buy an AWD Legacy?
  7. That car is BEAUTIFUL. KEEP IT STOCK. And stay out of boost. These engines can be suicidal in their higher miles, even if you take good care of them. This should be a show car only being that it's so rare. Wow you're lucky...
  8. Eaton M62 Supercharger. Search google. That's not exactly cheap, but the whine of a supercharger is priceless.
  9. Well I was told in a text earlier than Kyle's RS has a bad case of the headgaskets. But boy does it suck for him... we actually get some decent snow and his car's in the shop. You need to borrow my GL??? It may not be as fast and it may not be as flashy either but... it'll grow on ya.
  10. 1996 Outback 5spd 2.2. 198,000 miles. I've been noticing a whirring noise coming from the rear that sounds almost exactly like tire noise. Rotated my tires and the noise is still coming from the rear. It used to be pretty constant, then I took it out in a gravel parking lot and did some drifts and doughnuts and now it's much louder when engine braking. Jacked up the rear and don't notice any movement in the wheel so not leaning towards wheel bearing. Haven't checked fluid in the diff, though I probably should. If it's low, should I go ahead and replace diff or will it be fine if I just drain what's in there and refill? Thanks guys.
  11. Too bad the 1st gens are so cramped, otherwise this statement would have prompted me to buy a beater 1st gen Legacy to fix up and drive.
  12. Might be a little late but Trico exact fits have always been awesome for me. I've had my same wipers for the past 5 months and they've seen quite a bit of rain including today, and they still work great. I do make sure to keep mine clean however. I've found with the Ancos that the rubber from the blades actually comes off on my windshield and I have to scrape it off with a razor blade. GARBAGE.
  13. Yeah went out to panther creek park to the soccer field while it was covered in snow and did some donuts:grin:. It was pretty dang muddy down there. Went to the lakebottom too and got even MORE mud on the Outback. The Impreza treating you good? The Outback is just as awesome as usual. Will probably never venture away from the Outbacks actually. They seem like the perfect Subaru.
  14. Hey from Morristown (also East from you). There is a '96 model Legacy in the Pull-a-part in Knoxville. I could check it out on my next trip there for you and get the mileage, condition etc.
  15. A few weeks ago I replaced both rear struts on my '89 GL Touring wagon. Got tires for my 15" pugs and now I'm riding on them. but since I bought it I've also replaced the thermostat, both radiator hoses and the radiator itself. Tomorrow for the Outback: New tires, replace front right axle, and drain tranny grease in favor of some Redline 75/90 ns.
  16. I did the same thing to a '78 chevy pickup. I think it has more to do with the shape of the door than the sheetmetal itself.
  17. This is why I am SO glad I came across this site and why I will also be driving Subarus for a VERY long time. The larger Toyota and Honda boards aren't nearly as technically oriented as this board. If you have a problem, the solution can be found here.
  18. You need to have a gallery of your RS here. Those crappy cell phone pics don't do it justice.

  19. Nawww no oogah horn for this one. I might get some extra loud KCs or something though. Washed and waxed it today, boy does it shine. will post a pic or 2 later tonight or tomorrow. The camera's dead for now.
  20. 188 miles to 7.01 gals of gas. 26-27mpg. Half was highway, half stop and go/backroads with a/c on about half the time. I'm pretty impressed. The Impreza was only slightly better than that and it had no a/c. We'll see how I do straight highway. That 6 disc CD changer is SWEET. The cruise is sweet, the sound is sweet, it's super comfortable... this car is awesome. I've gotta say, this is only my 2nd new gen Subaru but judging by the way this thing drives with 186,000 miles on it, it must have been one hell of a car brand new. I'm guessing it'll take another 200,000 to depreciate to the point my Impreza is now lol.
  21. Just gave the Impreza wagon to my nephew (still in the family at least), the coupe is for sale, I'm keeping the touring wagon and I only have one EA82 sedan but lots of parts. That Touring wagon suprises me. I've been driving it for about 3 weeks now and it does just fine on the interstate. 70-75 for an hour straight and still averages just under 30mpg. If I slow down to 65 I can manage 32mpg.
  22. Here's a 56K friendly pic. And the rest of them: http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/Subarus/DSC_0060.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/Subarus/DSC_0063.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/Subarus/DSC_0064.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/Subarus/DSC_0065.jpg
  23. Well it's a done deal. Drove it the 45 or so miles from Knoxville and boy do I like it Rides way smoother than my Impreza, WAY more power, WAY more room, WAY more comfortable. I'll post pics tomorrow.
  24. Low 30s sounds good. I like the idea of a bigger tank too. My Impreza needs a fill-up every 11 gallons (about 350 miles). With a 120 mile a day commute, it seems like I'm filling up every couple of days. I very much preferred the interior on the Outback over the Imprezas too. Yeah the price is right for around here. $2800 in excellent condition. KBB value is $4,040.
