  1. Yep that's right. EA82 flywheel and an EA82 4wd clutch. I'll check part numbers when I go to work though and make sure I have the right clutch. They could have possibly given me the wrong one when I bought it.
  2. I've pulled and reinstalled engines before but I've never had this much difficulty getting the tranny to spline into the engine. Is there something I'm missing? Are they even compatible? Was there something else I was supposed to swap there? I got the engine in a couple weeks ago but couldn't get it splined in then either. So it just sat with the engine hoise keeping it from falling onto the ground. Me and my dad have been trying on and off since about 11:00 this morning. We're using a socket on the main crank pulley and turning it to try to get it to spline, but everytime it pops in (sure feels like that anyway) you can look down into the crack and see that the transmission stud isn't moving as I turn the main crank. It's most definitely not stripped out either. Things we know for sure: It's not being held back by the engine mount bolts, the tranny is jacked up just enough so that they clear the crossmember. The 2 small bolts on the bottom are going into their holes just fine. The opening all the way around between the engine and tranny looks uniform. Everything seems to be lining up just fine. If anybody could lend me a hand I'd love that. I've already busted out the back window of my wagon with a c-clamp (that's a real bummer because it houses all my parts and now they're not even protected from the elements) and I'd REALLY like to have all the windows on my sedan intact but I've come dangerously close to throwing my BFH at it... I really like this car but my temper is really getting to me. Any tips? Would it be easier to pull the tranny out and attach it to the engine and put it in as one big chunk?
  3. Not gonna argue there, lol. I'm in the middle of an EJ22 swap. But other stuff keeps coming up (younger sisters Civic needed radiator hoses, dad's Camry needed axle and sway bar bushings, older sister's Camry needed ignition switch, my Impreza may need front wheel bearings but dunno yet). Can't wait to get this beast on the road. Getting a lift when I get the money too.
  4. Most parts stores have rubber o-rings in stock and you would just match it up with one. I work at O'Reilly's, that's what they do there.
  5. IT FITS!!! And yes, the hood DOES shut. Required a little cutting and a little bending, and some zip ties.
  6. PM sent brokebill. Got a radiator for you if you want it.
  7. It's a Subaru, they defy all logic. Invest in a new radiator, new hoses, replace the hose from the carb to the thermostat housing, and might as well do the heater hoses too. It's well worth the cash, you'll have a rock solid cooling system for the next 100,000 or so. That's what I've always done with my EA82s and they've always ran nice and cool.
  8. Congrats!! Wow, already getting married. Sounds like a keeper to me. Good luck homie.
  9. Nope no offense taken. I had a feeling it wasn't the knock sensor... grossgary said that's what it was, maybe he didn't realize what the pic was actually of. The replacement was from a '92 Legacy but there was also a '95 at the yard but it STILL didn't fit the '95 nor did it really look like it (the '95 had a plug directly on the sensor itself that the wire plugged into). But whatever, I now have the one I need. Still baffling though... it does indeed seem that somehow my intake got swapped at some point (have no idea how in the hell that happened). I think I'll do some research on that and see what I come up with...
  10. Ok went to the JY. Found that ALL the first gen Legacies had 2 short and 2 long bolts on each side. The inner ones were the longer ones because the bottom "deck" (for lack of a better word) was raised about an inch. My intake does not show any signs that it was ever designed like this. HOWEVER, there was a '95 Legacy there and all 8 intake bolts were the same length, the shorter ones. So it appears my intake was from a newer model, OBDII maybe? It still only has the 2 plugs for the ECU so I'm not too concerned about that. That still doesn't explain why I had an extra fat knock sensor, not even the '95 at the yard had that, nor did any of the other first gen Legacies. Does anybody know why there would be such a variation?
  11. No it's definitely a Legacy. I know my EAs from my EJs. And the knock sensor just doesn't fit... but I found my recipt when I bought the engine and it says it was a complete engine so it apparently came with the intake and I seem to remember removing the knock sensor and intake to wrap a chain around the block because I didn't realize their were hoist points. I'm going to take it with me to the j/y and see if there are any differences in intake/knock sensors. This is baffling me BIG TIME. Here's an attached pic of the gen of Legacy I pulled the motor and intake bolts out of. http://pipstore.com/info/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/subaru_legacy_1st_generation.jpg And I don't think it was a turbo, but I can't say anything for sure at this point lol.
  12. I am so confused now. I'm thinking maybe it's just the intake... because not only do the bolts not fit right, but this thing doesn't even fit in the hole right (can't remember what it's called). I seem to remember the engine being completely untouched witn I pulled it, I must be completely wrong or losing my mind. Is there any special way to get this in? http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/EJ22%20conversion/DSC_0238.jpg The bolt sticks out about 1 1/8". Gonna have my dad make some kind of spacer for it at work. Does anybody have a pic of this area on their EJ22? I want to see if the hole is raised here. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/EJ22%20conversion/DSC_0237.jpg Please help me... lol.
  13. The ones that I removed to replace the ones I lost were flush with the intake like they should be. This is really baffling me... I'm considering taking them with me when I go back and putting them in the same car to make sure they fit. This really doesn't make much sense. :-\ I'm positive they came out of an EJ22 first gen Legacy. I don't think trimming them down would work because the threaded area is about 1 1/8" long and that's about how deep the hole is. If I trim any off then the smooth part of the bolt would have to mash the threads in the head to sink all the way into the hole. I'm gonna go have another look and make absolutely sure I have a problem.
  14. Yep the first bodystyle, kinda squarish. Does anybody have pictures of the bolts? I'll go downstairs later and take some pics of them in the holes in a few.
  15. Couldn't believe a search didn't turn anything up on this. So I have a '91 Legacy EJ22 but when I got it from the yard the intake was pulled off of it and the bolts were missing. So I go back when there's more Legacys and find one with the intake and steal the bolts (can't remember what year, but it was a first gen Legacy... '94 at the newst). I got some new gaskets and put the intake on today, but the longer bolts are too long for some reason. I was sure to swap the long and short bolts around to see if that would work but it didn't. I have the shorter ones on the inside and the longer ones on the outside. Why would they be longer? Isn't it exactly the same engine? I thought they stayed exactly the same up until '97 when solid lifters were introduced. How long do the bolts need to be?
  16. I very highly doubt it. maybe you could cut 3/8" off another intake bolt so you can at least get some threads in there? You should buy an early model Legacy or Impreza and keep the other car as a backup/fixer upper. Cupholders, cruise... what more could you ask for?
  17. When moving? When sitting still? I had that problem when I was moving in my '87 EA82. The rubber bushing that held the shifting linkage up was basicaly gone and the linkage was sitting on the driveshaft making it squeak.
  18. We could make a trip to the Pull-a-part in Knoxville and get all the SPFI parts off of a wagon there if you want. I think it would be well worth the time. I'm due for a trip anyway. Lemme know, I get most of the week off. And to answer your question, I have no idea.
  19. This was me headed out to a 4 day camping trip in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Northern Georgia. 227,000 and still burns no oil!!! Amazing machines these Subies!! Things I've done: New front shocks, new rear tires. Next on the list: Timing belt and water pump.
  20. Couple of pieces of metal with holes drilled in them basically. Here's the finished underside (minus exhaust). Here's a shot of the center console. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/Subarus/4wd%20conversion/DSC_0237.jpg
  21. That's such a great idea. Wow Connie... that's looking REALLY good. Last time I cleaned an engine I definitely couldn't get it THAT clean. I'm finally kicking my project into high gear, looks like you are too. :headbang:
  22. Alright good to know!! I will go buy a few of those stones. Thanks!!
