  1. EA82 4wd. I've been trying to install the rear swaybar for the past four days but it just doesn't seem to fit. Here's what I'm running into... I can only get the inner mounts to mount, but the outers just seem bent and don't fit very well. I've tried pulling the ends in with a ratchet-strap, but to no avail. I've also tried mounting one end and then the other, but then the insides are grossly out of line. I've tried several combinations and am not making any progress, it just seems like it's warped but it's identical to the one I have in storage (in appearance anyway). So here's my idea. Does the car have to be sitting on the ground to install the sway? I remember removing it was a real breeze but the car was sitting on the ground. Can't let it down yet, no rear brakes (waiting for a rear disc assembly). Anybody have any ideas? I honestly just can't get it on. Any help appreciated, thanks.
  2. Welcome to the board!!! First off I would like to say... an Impreza is considered New Gen but I'm sure this thread will end up getting moved over there so don't worry about making a new thread. Secondly, You do NOT need to refurbish anything on your Subaru. 160,000 miles is very young. I have a 225,000 mile Impreza and I wouldn't even consider a rebuild on either the engine OR tranny. They both work perfectly fine and the engine burns no oil. Thirdly, I know how you feel when it comes to no cup holders. I haven't looked into a solution YET, but as for now I just use nature's cup holder. Nice to see somebody so close. Tell us some details about the Imp.
  3. There's no way to remove the old seal without destroying it because they're pretty crammed in there and brittle.
  4. This obviously isn't going to fit. Where do I need to get this seal? I got this one at Napa. What you are looking at is the outside of the rear trailing arm. I'm re-greasing the bearings on the rear sub-frame for my 4wd conversion but this seal is too big. I don't feel like driving to 5 different parts stores just to be handed stupid crap that I shouldn't have to pay for so I thought I'd ask here. Should I just go to thepartsbin?
  5. I'm in the middle of doing the same thing, I've got the mustache bar bolted up along with the rear subframe (which IS different from the 2wd one, has the bracket for the diff), the diff, the trailing arms, the axles, and I'm in the process of coming up with a center carrier bearing bracket of sorts. Swapping in an EJ22 5spd D/R as one unit.
  6. They DEFINITELY have to be aftermarket puegeot wheels. They must be really rare, they're not even on the wheels page.
  7. That car rarely hit 60 on the highway, I really should have mentioned that. I couldn't stand hearing it strain so I went really easy on it. Even so... I've talked to quite a few people with 3ATs and they always mentioned never seeing above 25mpg.
  8. '93 Loyale 3AT 2wd SPFI wagon, 26 city, 28 hwy. '87 GL 5spd D/R carbed wagon, 28 city/ 31 hwy. '89 GL 5spd 2wd SPFI sedan, 32 city/ 36 hwy. '89 GL 4EAT Full-time AWD EA82T wagon, 24 city/ 29 hwy. '93 Impreza 2wd 5spd EJ18 wagon, 29 city/ 33 hwy. Subarus (especially NON AWD) typically get great gas mileage when tuned properly and have clean fuel systems. Try cleaning the carb out and adjusting it, it's probably pretty far out of adjustment. Pour a little seafoam down the carb when it's warmed up, pour a can in the tank, make sure your tires are aired up, and drain and fill your ATF AND diff fluid. Fresh diff fluid will probably up the MPGs just a tad. Who knows, the stuff that's in there may be original. Also should change the spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, pcv valve filter, and probably the pcv valve itself (OEM only). After doing all that you should definitely notice a jump in gas mileage. I'm sure there's a vac leak somewhere in that jungle of hoses.
  9. It's a damn touring wagon too. You just saw something very rare here in the South. I didn't even realize it was lifted with a winch when you sent me the pics. That thing is nice. Hopefully he joins if he hasn't already.
  10. Sucks I'm on the East end. I don't think there's too many members on the West end of TN, a few over here though.
  11. Sounds like you need to get your a$$ OUTTA THERE!!! Do what you feel would make you happiest. Might be a while, but you can make it happen.
  12. Now now... is that the attitude to have when you have a practically mint coupe on it's way to your garage? I think NOT!!!
  13. Looks like you're on a roll. This Brat has made quite a bit of progress. Reading through your thread is getting me motivated to start my EJ22 and 4wd swap (2wd 5spd EA82 sedan). Looking really good man.
  14. Alright, Definitely headgasket. Started steaming on the way home, didn't overheat though. Going to get rid of that TRASH EA82 and throw in a not-so-prone-to-failure EJ22. I'll admit though, the reason the headgaskets let go is probably my shotty mechanical skills. But still... my other EA82 went further on it's headgaskets even though I used a DREMEL to clean up the heads. AND used Subaru headgaskets and didn't retorque. AND they didn't technically fail, I wrecked it. But anyway... I see this as a good time to do the 4x4 conversion as well. Looks like I'm going to be fairly busy.
  15. Shoulda specified, EA82 SPFI '89 GL. The only reason I'm not thinking headgasket is because the compression test showed between 135 and 140 in all but #2 cylinder (170psi). I was also trying to find some hose or something to suck out whatever liquid it is. It really shouldn't be the headgasket, I did those 10,000 miles ago. If it is, the EA82 is going to be set on fire and an EJ22 set in it's place.
  16. That's so awesome you're FINALLY getting a West coast car. I can't wait to see some more detailed pics of this thing.
  17. So it's still fouling #4 plug. Smells like coolant TO ME, definitely still using it. So maybe it's not coolant, maybe it's fuel. My sense of smell isn't all that great, they both smell kinda sweet to me. So I just changed the injector in favor for one that came out of a DL with 105,000 miles on it. I started it and now I'm going to let it sit and go start it and see if it runs on 3 for a while. If this helps, this is EXACTLY what it does. After running for a while at full temp, the next time it gets started it sputters for about 20-30 seconds after startup but it DOES clear up. Upon pulling plugs, it is discovered that the #4 plug is very dirty (fouled). I've only pulled it twice, both times immediately after starting it and realizing it's not firing. Smells like gas, but my low coolant level and the fact that sticking a straw into the liquid at the bottom of the cylinder made it smell like coolant made me think intake manifold gaskets. But here's the sorda strange thing... if I let it sit for a day (or even just more than a few hours) it starts great. But if I start it only an hour or less before parking it it will run on 3. If it were coolant, the plug would be clean wouldn't it? Am I mistaken about it being coolant? And if it is a leaky injector, why would it only happen to #4? I haven't had any overheating, just coolant loss and 1 fouled plug. Could the coolant loss be something completely unrelated? Compression test doesn't indicate anything wrong, and yes I bled the gauge each time.
  18. Just googled it and didn't find anything on the first page about cephas, I'm sure if you looked a while you would find something though. That soob should take a very long time to die... what have you done to it so far?
  19. Glad to see you're thoroughly enjoying the station wagon utility. That wagon is lookin real good:headbang: Nice bike:slobber:
  20. Looks alot better than the pic on my phone. VERY nice... +1 for tailgate.
  21. HELLL YEEAAHHH!!!!!! That thing is BEAUTIFUL!!! Keep that thing COVERED. And do NOT, EVER let it play in the snow. But you know this already. JEEEEZZZ I love the EA81 coupes, they're so georgous.
  22. Yeah I've seen that before. I like how the commentator says "And now he will have to exit the vehicle so it can be towed" but he just drives off. haha. That thing probably had a cage cage built in for the sole purpose of holding it together because you can see STRAIGHT through the rear wheel wells when looking from the side.
  23. Have driven it much today and it's still running on all 4. So far so good...
  24. I don't visit the historic forums very often... I'm glad I did. That's one beautiful Brat. Gen 1s look so much better than Gen 2s in my opinion... they're just too cramped for me.
