  1. That's some terrible luck. Oh well, only thing you can really do is get the job done right so you have one less thing to go wrong just before Christmas. Good luck with the Brat, and look on the bright side... at least you were stranded at a bar.
  2. Actually it's not even my car, just ran across it on youtube and sounded like the guy didn't know what it was... and I thought valve noise too, so I posted the vid here to see what you guys thought. I posted a response to the vid for him and said it really didn't sound like rod knock.
  3. Wow, that's a beautiful car. Very simple, clean look actually. So, what's his hame? Have you decided yet? Any ideas?
  4. Not my car, but I'm not familiar with that noise... rod knock? Thought rod knock would be deeper. Notice how the noise changes with throttle/no throttle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FX6hrCXExk
  5. You DEFINITELY have to get those windows tinted. I didn't like the way they looked at first either... but after reading some interesting facts (engine sitting lower in chassis, high strength steel at high stress points) I really started to appreciate them more. And it does look more like other cars in the sense that they're more "modern" looking, but there's still no doubt about what it is when you see it cruising down the road. It still looks like a Subaru to me. Congradulations on your well deserved purchase. P.S. I'm sure Bucky would approve as long as it makes you happy.
  6. All openings on the intake are plugged off except the brake booster, IIRC. All you need is fuel in and maybe a return line? And you'll need your choke hooked up and that's all I can remember when it comes to electrical connections and hoses.
  7. My drive to work is very bad for my car. It's about 1 mile to work... but with the colder weather coming up, I've been going outside to start it and let it warm up before moving it lately. It eats up the gas... (Turbo anywayzz, so it's not gonna get great gas mileage) but it's nice to hop in the car and see 1/3 on the gauge!
  8. How small is the hole that's bringing air into the filter box itself? I know on EA82's it's extremely small and making an additional hole helps with performance slightly. Or at least I've been told... I didn't really notice any difference.
  9. No, the problem hasn't returned. But I haven't really driven it, I won't know until I take it on a 20 mile trip this thursday. Pretty sure it's not a big issue though. The hesitation I'm getting is probably the oxygen sensor, but that's getting changed soon. Thanks for the input.
  10. '89 SPFI EA82 GL 5spd 2wd sedan. It's been running a little funny lately... I started it up after it sat for a week and it ran beautifully, then it sputtered and died. For the next three starts (in which I let it run about 5-10 seconds) it acted like it was running on 3 cylinders. I checked the ECU, no codes. Then I start it up a 4th time and once again it runs beautifully. I think it's time to switch out some senders/sensors. I plan on replacing the O2 sensor, TPS, MAF, and a few other senders/sensors that I haven't identified yet. I've been browsing www.thepartsbin.com and I see a water temp SENSOR and a water temp SENDER. I've replaced the temp sending gauge switch (I believe that's what controls the electric fan?) but I still have some hesitation, although not as bad. Can anybody take a look at the website for me and tell me if the water temp SENDER and water temp SENSOR are even in the SPFI setup? I can't find either of my Haynes or Chiltons books to check. Thanks for any responses.
  11. Looks like you could use a tail-gate for your Brat. And yes, that's a very nice camper top. When are you gonna lift it?
  12. I don't remember ever seeing this add for that Brat, but I was the 2nd person to respond? My memories wacked, lol. Happy birthday! It's nice to see a Brat in such good condition here in the SE. Hopefully I'll be on the same train, may have found a Brat in good condition not too far away.
  13. My rustfree EA82 rides exactly like yours does, except mine leans towards the passenger side. Those 2wd rear struts just sucked.
  14. I'm gonna have to say Brat just to confuse you.
  15. I don't know about any temporary fixes... but you should go ahead and get 2. Dunno if you already planned on it, but the post said "a" gasket. Anywayzz... how is the ole' Brat doing? Is it holding up well against these rough Southern winters? lol
  16. Saw a gl sedan much like mine for sale in a parking lot, kinda rusty but the doors were unlocked and it was dark so I opened it to see the Mileage. 499,000. THEY WERE ASKING $800!!!!!!
  17. Yep it happens. My 87 wag is just sitting in the yard with nearly no rust and I noticed a few weeks ago that the windshield was cracked all the way across. No worries. Windshields do that sometimes.
  18. look around and find out where the oil is coming from. should be easy with that much smoke.
  19. That's funny GD said that was a tough sale, which is true... but I've been looking for an EA81 2wd 5spd coupe. But I'm clear across the country.
  20. That is SICK. I think silver wheels with, say... gold lug nuts, gold center cap, and gold beauty ring would look totally pimptastic.
  21. Why does that thing say EA82 on it? Oh wait... it's the trashwagon.
  22. Yeah why the hell is this ************ not ************ing closed? Get the ************ over it. Just because he's not quite as "stable" as some of us are doesn't give us the right to point and make fun. Grow up a little people.
  23. oh yeah speaking of Rod Run... I got stuck in that freakin traffic. It SUCKED. BIG TIME. Anyway... wow, a hyubusa engine would... launch that thing in the air probably. I bet they have a HORRIBLE ride. I jumped up on the back of it and the dang thing didn't budge but an inch.
  24. We have one of those right here in Morristown. About 10 miles from here... it's for sale too. $4500 is an awful lot for a radio flyer with a motor though...
